GAA 2014

Cork & Waterford will be going at it in Thurlas at 4 o'clock today, nice day for it too by the looks of things. Waterford have a lot of new comers arriving onto the scene this year so it'll be interesting to see how they fair out against a Cork set up that are heading into it as the clear favourites.

Listening to a few interviews there during the week the mood in Waterford seems to be good and with them having nothing to lose really I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they catch Cork on the hop and it would be mighty if they did. It's on the telly too.

Terrific game, as per. Waterford subs were absolutely brutal. Felt Cork got the benefit of a few decisions. Cork should beat them the next day.

I'd be inclined to think the same Feeky, Waterford might have left this one behind them today saying that they should have a few of the lads that were out injured today back for the replay so you never know. Another good tight and highly entertaining game of Hurling though. Tipp and Limerick now next Sunday, call that one at your pearl too.

Yeah a super game alright. It got me through my hangover! Predergast looked like he was carrying a knock or something because he had a couple of great chances near the end. Will enjoy the replay but I'd say Cork will win. On a side not it's great to see Aidan Walsh playing both hurling and football.

An old Sunday Game intro....some big hits. Laois players featuring a lot for some reason.

Don't mind the Laois lads, Niall Patterson the Antrim goalie is the man there!

Some man for one man...

Laois play Man City tonight in the U21 hurling championship. Our U21s have had so little training together as a result of the SHC which has crumpled four matches in a row together already.

Is the first Sky game this weekend or the weekend after?

I know Sligo v Galway is the first football game on, unusual choice of first game. Lets hope Galway put in a good performance and get the result but under Mulholland anything is possible in a negative manner.

7th of June I think. Should be interesting. They have a few of the football quarter finals too, dont they?

Galway's Niall Healy as good as out for this years championship with a cruciate injury and Andy Smith struggling with an ankle injury as well. Healy will be a loss but one that might not be the end of the world either, Portumna's Andy Smith would be a massive blow to the set up.

The Tribesmen will be heading to Portlaoise on Sunday to take on Big Papi's Laois at 4 o'clock. If it's anything like last years clash it should be a good mach. Big Hole Kardashian and Kanye were supposed to have been spotted in Portlaoise yesterday as well, wouldn't be surprised if they are booked in there for the long weekend with Joe Canning being also in town.

I hope Limerick hammer the living fckin' shite out of nahaelai's Tipperary below in Thurlas in the Munster Hurling championship semi-final today. Throw in at 4 o'clock.

Double header in Portlaoise then for the Leinster Hurling championship quarter finals Antrim will be taking on Wexford at 2 o'clock, hard enough to call that one, I'd be inclined to go for Wexford though. Galway and Laois will tear into it then at 4 o'clock, Galway should win that one but as poor aul' Johnny 'Cotton' Silk lord have mercy on him would say ''ya jusht don't fckin' know TBP''

Leinster SHC QFs
Antrim v Wexford, O'Moore Park
Laois v Galway, O'Moore Park

Munster SHC SF
Tipperary v Limerick, Semple Stadium

Ulster SFC QF
Fermanagh v Antrim, Brewster Park

Cracking half of hurling. God I love the Munster championship.

In terms of attracting a new audience, it's a shame that the first game to be shown on Sky will probably be the poorest hurling game in a while.

Galway came back to scrape past Laois by 2. Laois missed a 21 with the last puck of the game. Sounded like a great atmosphere.

Lucky escape there today for my lot. Started off brilliantly, was up a goal and a few pints inside the opening 5 mins but it didn't take long for Laois to get into the swing of things and the game was there for the taking right up until the death.

Todays results.

Antrim 0-21 : 5-19 Wexford

Laois 0-23 : 1-22 Galway

Tipperary 2-16 : 2-18 Limerick

Looking like this years hurling championship has started off where last years championship left off. I've the Limerick, Tipp match recorded and I'm looking forward to watching it tonight, by the sounds of things that was a belter too.

Typical RTE, we get the chance to watch Dublin beat the shite out of Laois next week when they could show Armagh and Cavan having what will probably be a much tighter game.

Aye great to see, with any luck Offaly might be able to stay with Kilkenny for 50 minutes but it will probably be the first real blow out we've had in a while.

I'd much rather watch the Dublin Laois game. It is by no means a foregone conclusion. Dublin will be there to knock off their perch and Laois still have a few lads off the side that should've won them more than Leinster titles.

Actual Legends – GAA Team Stop Off to Give Helping Hand to Farmer Turning Turf in Galway

donegalFEATURE.jpg

So, we here at Her towers have a whole team of heroes we happen to think are pretty amazing right now.

It’s that time of year, where if you’re coming from a farming background, chances are you’re breaking your back in the bog.

One Galway farmer got a lucky surprise when he was given a helping hand by an entire club Gaelic football team from Donegal at the weekend.

Naomh Columba were competing in Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta, held in Moycullen at the weekend. The team decided to go for a dip in the sea in Spiddal following a game on Saturday evening before returning to their accommodation in Corrib Village in Galway city when they spotted a local farmer turning turf.

donegal11.jpg

Tomás Lydon was out turning turf single-handedly when they players decided to get out and give him some team support. A group of 30 men, both players and management, pitched in, helping him turn about an acre of turf in an hour.

Naomh Columba manager Paddy J McGinley told the Donegal Democrat:

“We were only about 15 minutes from Spiddal so the lads decided we would go there to the beach to the salt water to bathe before we were to go back to stay at Corrib Village.

“We just went straight from Moycullen before we had a chance to tog in after the match. On the way we saw a man with about an acre of turf and we made the decision to stop and help him.

“I went down to introduce myself and Tomás was a little taken back to begin with. The intentions were genuine from the lads. He was maybe in his sixties and we had about 30 men altogether, aged anywhere between 15 and 40.

“When I was leaving, Tomás came up to me and thanked me and said he wouldn’t have managed to do that much in three days. He looked again and said: ‘No. Five days actually.’

“I’m glad we could’ve been of help.”

Seriously lads, fair play.

Now boi. Isn't that a mighty story...

I wouldn't mind having the loan of them lads next week. If I could manage to get a hold of Frank Pardy and the trailer with the airplane wheels he has concucted as well we'd have all turf belonging to everyone in the parish saved in an hour.

fair play to them.

Slightly odd that Sky passed up on not one, but two, Munster hurling championship matches over the past two weeks in place of a non-game in Leinster this evening. If they wanted to bring the sport to further audiences, they'd have been as well off to show Cork v Waterford or Tipperary v Limerick who, as predicted, turned out to be exciting games.

Strange.

Is it confirmed that they passed on them? Both games were live on RTE. I would have assumed RTE would have first dibs, being the primary rights holder.

I understand that RTÉ would (probably) have had first dibs however, you'd think Sky would have attempted to make some sort of statement with their GAA schedule. Munster hurling always has been the primary provincial competition in GAA sports and I can't understand why Sky were content to have Kilkenny v Offaly as their inaugural match.

It'll be over after ten minutes tonight and no amount of Sky hyperbole will change that.

I don't really understand mate, if RTE had first dibs and picked the Munster games, what could Sky do? :D

Has everyone lit a candle for Offaly not to embarrass us live on Sky?

I'm leaving for Nowlan Park at four and have hopes that our lads can put up a fight. Kilkenny are missing some key players and while they will still win, probably fairly comfortably in the end, I'm hoping Offaly can mount a challenge similar to the game in O'Connor Park last year, against a stronger Kilkenny team, on paper anyway.

yea but sky have to have people pay the subscription. rte just need a tv licence. my guess is rte bid more. Sky got outbid by BT as well for things.

Looks like another training session for Kilkenny. Offaly keeper has been the best player of the pitch for them so far. Not the best of games to debut hurling on Sky Sports.

As I was saying last week, shame the first game on Sky had to be the first bad hurling game in absolutely ages
