Friedel on his way out of Villa?

Confusing signing for me. Spurs need a new number 1 and Friedel is what? 40? On top of that he had a very average season at Villa this year.

Would be a good signing for Spurs, but would be the definition of a short-term solution, most probably he'll have 1 or 2 good years there max, and then their problem of a goalkeeper will continue. At least we got 5 years out of Van Der Sar, buying a 40 year old keeper isn't really the way forward.

In the sense that he is a marked improvement on Gomez, then it is a decent signing for them but short-termism at its very best/worst. I'd be surprise if they didn't have an eye on a younger keeper with potential though.

That's an odd one. He's a good keeper but it's such a short term signing.

He is 41 and starting to loose a bit of form.

Typical Spuds signing.

That's the problem with a 41 year old. Even if he was in form he's always a game away from a dramatic fall. Fergie said something similar about VDS. Tha the is brilliant ATM but wants to go out on a high because with goal keepers the form starts regressing at that age very quickly and you can't afford to play the player anymore.

Watch Glaston come in and try convincing everyone that this signing is a masterstroke which will help them back to the CL.

Given how incredibly ambitious Cudicini is he'll no doubt be happy with being third choice.

* He isn't 41, he's 40 and still has it in him to win points for Tottenham. He will probably be worth 10 points a season, which means a CL spot based on the previous season, at the expense of Arsenal.

* Last year's financial statement showed a total turnover of £287m with a net profit of £49m.

* His experience is going to help other players develop, and the presence of Bale ensures an excellence of the entire team.

* Modric won't be sold unless United cough up £760m now that Tottenham have sorted the goalkeeper position.

* Friedel presence should help build a new stadium because of his massive arms.

You left out the bit where their starting eleven, man for man, is better than ours.

He'll probably angle for a move to City to replace Given as second choice, while he gets another huge payday.

Nah, he'll probably be off back to Chelsea to be fourth choice. The dream, basically.

Points to Gomez leaving you would think... PSV bound?

They need to solve that keeper spot.

Still a star striker and CB partner for Gallas to be worrying...

What does this mean?

Hasn't Friedel looked like age is catching up with him this season? Not sure if this is a good move by Spurs.

Not so sure how this signing will work out.

His form has deteriorated over the past two seasons.

Hmm, hopefully this move refocuses him and he gets back to the kind of form he was showing 5 years ago (minus the superman impersonation he always did against us). If so he could definitely play a big part in making Spurs more competitive for a top four spot again.

Unfortunately, I can't see it happening. He's been going downhill for at least two seasons now. Maybe he might still be more solid than Gomes which means it will be a positive move for Spurs, but it probably won't be by much.

He's maybe not the same Friedel we knew but still can be quite solid for Premiership.

Tottenham want to make the Champions League and they sign Friedel as their first choice. Briliiant!

Who could they sign though? Top keepers don't want to sign for Spurs. No CL means a drop in quality to choose from..

Thought they might be in for PIG, tbh. Seemed a perfect fit. He's not going to get a better team to take him on as #1, and they're not going to get a better keeper.
