Free Transfers - Summer 2025 Edition

Davies, David, Gomes, and Lamptey could all be perfect for this system. If it was champ man I'd get all 4 then blow the transfer kitty on a proper world class number 10

Isn't Kimmich's contract up in the summer too? Would love to take him for that midfield

Going by the list in the OP, I think Davies is the only one I would consider but I'm cautious of United going for big stars in a time of transition.
I would personally go for that Bouremouth LB/LWB.

So instead of the world class one for free go for the one in good form at Bourmeouth for 50million yeah?

I would go for the one who's well adjusted to this league, been in great form since the latter part of last season, is young, determined and still developing over someone who seems like he's looking for a good payday. Yeah.

Davies, David are IMO the best options, for replacing the perennially injured Shaw and Rashford respectively.
Tah is another decent option if we want to replace Lindelof on a free.

Davies, David and Gomes are the three I would target. The latter two I would even chuck a cheeky £20mil at for the pair in Jan to see if Lille will cash in. Gomes would be great in that left-half-space role

Do people who watch David think he can make it in premier league. Very consistent goal scoring record but looks underwhelming in youtube clips (generally its the opposite) .

Davies, Gomes and Lamptey would add so much quality to our squad. 2 starters and Gomes to rotate with Kobbie.

Son is a very interesting one, very unlikely given how loyal he is to Spurs. But he also has a lot of respect for Park Ji Sun and I think I remember reading he was a United fan. Seems to still have the fitness and would really thrive in that left 10 role. A cheeky 2 year deal?

Not sure if these players have options, but there’s also:

Tyrick Mitchell
Franck Anguissa
Roony Bardghji
Christian Norgaard
Olivier Boscagli
Sean Longstaff
Kyle Walker-Peters

Tyrick Mitchell - Would fill the same role as Malacia as a defensive LWB, but healthy. He's limited going forward. I don't really see it, but if Malacia is sold it's not completely insane.

Franck Anguissa - Haven't seem much of him this season or last, and he is 29, but in theory if Casemiro goes (or even if he stays, really), he'd make some sense as a backup to Ugarte.

Roony Bardghji - Never actually seen him play

Christian Norgaard - He's 30, not so quick so probably best in a 4-3-3 as the sitting DM and Frank is the kind of good coach who is probably squeezing all he can out of players like Norgaard.

Olivier Boscagli - Barely seen him, but a cheap LCB makes sense, particularly if we move on from Shaw or he magically is judged healthy enough to maybe play LWB.

Sean Longstaff - Never really been impressed with him and he seems to have dropped off a level. We can do better even for a cheap DM.

Kyle Walker-Peters - This one is intriguing because he's a wingback who can play either side. Right now our wingbacks are Dalot, Antony, Malacia and maybe Amad. I'd probably rank him 3rd behind Amad and Dalot in that role, narrowly ahead of Malacia because he's better going forward, and ahead of Antony because he's more reliable defensively. So it's not completely crazy. 27 isn't old, but it's not young for this role either.

Davies isn't young? Kerkoz wages will be silly too.

Pro's and con's for both and I see your point. I like both of them. Just weighing up how much work the squad needs and a free transfer for proved world class quality seems to good to pass up

Alfonso Davies (24) - LWB position. However with interest from Real and rumours that he is in negotiations with Bayern this is most unlikely

Joshua Kimmich (29) - DM position. Strong backup to Ugarte on a free. Especially valuable if Casemiro is sold

Jonathan Tah (28) - CB position. Assuming Evans and Lindelof is leaving, Tah could be considered on a free to compete with the remaining CBs and allowing Mazz and Shaw to compete on the RWB and LWB as well as the CB positions.

Angel Gomes (24) - CM position. Home and club grown, backup to CM position, worth on a free given the other areas we also need to solve

Fredie Woodman (27) - GK position. Assuming Heaton is retiring once his contract expires in summer worth to have a British 3rd goalkeeper. Woodman is actively playing for Preston today. Would improve on home-grown player requirement

Would love to have Gomes back. Just don't think we have enough players with technical ability.

Kimmich wouldn't come here to back anyone up, he'll be starting.

Whoever we sign please make sure you give them a sign on fee and not a high weekly wage as if it doesn't work out, we don't want to be stuck with these inflated wages we give out "Because they were free", give them a signing on fee, no issue there but it's prohibitive to a future sale if they are on high wages like Sanchez was for example.

Left field option... A guy with a reputation to rebuild and something to prove. Paul Pogba.

I'd take Davies, David and Tah on a free. Son obviously too but I can't see him leaving Spurs to join us.

I’d take Davies, Gomes, David and Tah then move Malacia, Eriksen, Rashford and Lindelof on to free up the space for their direct replacements which would see a decent profit as Rashford and Malacia would bring in around £50 million.

Kimmich wouldn't come here to back anyone up, he'll be starting.

Kimmich would be 30 next summer and would ask for a king's ransom in terms of salaries and fees. When would we finally learn not to bring in these sort of players? Aren't Bastian, Sanchez and Casemiro not enough for us to finally learn that lesson?

We've got a goal ie win the league in 2028. We should be a squad who would hit their prime at that time.

Kimmich always ends up on a free in Saudi on my FM 24 save. I always get Davies and Musiala over the following seasons and they are probaly my two best players. About 100 million each. Davies on a free is an no brainier. Imagine Musiala instead of Rashford and and Davies instead of Shaw. My god. Our left side would be scary.

I liked the look of Roony Bardghij when we played Copenhagen in the Champions League last season. He's one to keep an eye on if he recovers from his injury before the summer.

Son should be impact signing but cant see us getting more than one season out of him. Davies..I honestly can't remember how good he is defensively

As much as I like Gomes, it will be add to more set piece problems.

Think free and pre free agency is where we should put our focus, start tapping left and right 2 years ahead, we already overpaying leechers, at least we will skip United tax and going back and forth with other teams for 2 months.

Alvaro Valles and Alex Meret (both 27) are on frees this summer.

Two ball-playing keepers. Valles in particular, who I've posted about before, is very comfortable with his feet and at playing in a very high line. Hasn't played at all this season, with his club icing him out for not signing a new contract.

Either one would give us - at minimum - a very capable back-up. Could even be similar to Stefan Ortega at City where they'd really put pressure on the starting spot.

At the very least, would allow us to sell Bayindir, add some money to the pot and get a 2nd keeper on a free.

That's how I always do it on FM anyway...

He'd be a good Eriksen replacement -- third or fourth choice CM, and I'd sell Casemiro and buy another.

Mainoo; Ugarte; New CM; Gomes; (Fernandes)
