Fred | no longer Fred the Red but now a Turkish delight

Jorginho went for £13m..... Also, Kovacic is a year younger and a fantastic player. I don't think anyone has said that Fred is top tier, but the sole reason more clubs aren't interest is his age. Also, Lazio, who came second in Serie A, reportedly wants him so.

Have any teams of Arsenal's calibre bid for Fred? Has any team of any calibre bid 13m? Kovacic is a fantastic player, which is how he got himself a better club despite his age.

The sole reason there aren't more clubs interested is because he's crap mate. Obviously.

Sarri already said he doesn't want Fred so yeah no to that point as well.

Couldn't care If it was a good fee from a somalian club 6m for Fred is insulting.

I don't agree with "insulting" in the sense they're offering in the ballpark of what they can afford.
It is a low offer in absolute terms, sure. That Galatasaray made the approach might be telling they feel there is a chance not a lot of clubs are knocking and their offer be the only real one. They identified Fred as a potential target and without being disrespectful to the Süper Lig it translates to decent players from wealthier leagues, often on the older side, in a slump and either looking to spring back or get a last paycheck... And honestly that's fair to Fred ?

I wouldn't be surprised he transferred, if at all, for 8-13m€. But who knows really, especially with Saudi offers popping in and out.

I don't think the people more knowledgeable about this expect there's any amortisation left on the books for him ?

Fred to Mount
Mctominay to Amrabat
Pereira to Eriksen
Matic to Casemiro

Has improved the squad. Fair play.

Fred was involved in over 50 games for us in all comps last year for a team who came 3rd in the league, yes most as sub,is a Brazil international and is 30 hardly retired so yes 6million is a complete pisstake.

In a way, I’ll be sad to see Fred leave the club, akin to Elanga. But his age, and me screaming Fred STOP being Fred, outweigh me glowingly saying, OMG, Fred isn’t being like Fred, and I like it.

That is the way how Turkish clubs do business. One club president said that he hates when Turkish clubs bid for his players because they knock down price and then other potential buyers are following that price.

It's because he was faster than Matić, more aggressive than Pogba and in the end, outlived Herrera who had his own issues.

When you don't have that many effervescent players in the squad, you admire what you have... and still despite his detriments, he was twice useful than Schweini and Schneiderlin.

The whole adventure with Fred in Man United started by club throwing 50 on him and not playing for literal months. From the beginning his situation was raising more questions than answers. It was then and before his former coach, Fonseca was banging like a mantra: Fred is better in higher areas of the pitch. Jose thought bit otherwise.

Now he's 30 and we need to rebuild squad, because Klopp right now is doing it twice, in last 5 years, and Arsenal is throwing transfer money left and right.
So did Ole. I'll never understand it as it was so incredibly obvious that playing him in that deeper role highlighted every one of his biggest weaknesses and somewhat negated his biggest strengths. In the short term it was understandable (despite his issues he was still better than any of our other options) but why we didn't sign somebody actually suited to that role was utter incompetence.

Fred spent most of his career here being played out of position. It wasn't until Rangnick and then ETH came in that he was moved into his more natural position, and he was then probably our best player for the remainder of Ralf's season. He did have a poor start under ETH but otherwise was normally decent-to-good for the rest of the season, bar the Leeds fiasco which was unsurprisingly the one match that he was played at DM again.

He's not good enough to be a consistent starter for a top team, but if we'd used him correctly he'd have been fine as a squad player.

Still no movement on this...??

If anyone bid 6M for him they can feck right off. I know we are bad at selling players but other clubs shouldn't think we are a fool.

We’d be morons to sell at that kind of price. He’s inconsistent but is such a good squad player, completely turned the tie v Barça last season by shitting all over FdJ.
Give Fred an Ander Herrera-esque job to do and he absolutely smashes it.

According to Transfermarkt he's worth 20m euros. I'd take 15m given that his contract expires in 2024. Useful player that gave us some brilliant performances and I do like Fred. But clubs that are in for him are Fulham and Galatasaray, not top side. Also he's 30 so good chance to get some money for him.

When Jose fell out with the board and Herrera left without any sign of replacement, the real pressure started to pile up. There were signs he'll make it, but then again whole team played inconsistent. Perhaps if Herrera could stay for 1-2 years, it could help Fred cope with it.

Even this year, not a bad sign vs West Ham in FA Cup, when he position himself just behind Wout who pressured opponent with a ball, in their own box, Fred runs and shoots like Carrick, no big strength attached.

Another goal this season vs Forest, bit similar run to the box while positioning himself just behind Martial. He didn't fully forget how to play his usual game.

Not a consistent starter for sure, still him lending some help in the cups was good to watch.

He's had a few standout performances, but overall he's been completely underwhelming and largely mediocre. Seems a decent guy and would wish him all the best, but won't miss seeing him in the team should he (hopefully) leave

The backlash against him is OTT. He’s still the best presser and runner in the squad and in his specialist role he can literally deliver world class performances against anyone. Granted he’s wildly erratic when utilised as a rounded or deeper CM, but we no longer require that of him and he would only come into the team as cover, or for the aforementioned specialist role.

In a marginalised role, Fred is actually more useful, not less.

He fell out of favour with ETH for some reason. He always had decent spells with us, but when he came back from injury he couldn't find his form and ETH just lost trust in him.

Thats like rock bottom. Should be atleast €15m plus €5m add ons. He is a Brazil international. Surely another PL team could have taken him on.
He's on the last year of his contract, I'm sure he earns a fair bit, he's not going anywhere for less money than he earns now, 10-15M is what we should expect and forget add-ons

Still no movement on this...??
We're backed up further than me after an ill-advised fish and chips from a dodgy takeaway.

I won't tell you where I'm sitting right now.

Tom Cairney for Fulham going off injured with hamstring just now against Chelsea. With Fulham light in midfield, Fred would be a good buy for them

Happy for Fred to go elsewhere because the amount of shit he gets from the jerks here who don't understand his role in the team and generally struggle to see anything beyond goals, assists and stepovers just got so tiresome, the desperate people waiting for one bad touch to call him out...but at least I could build my ignore list of shitposters to be fair.

I really wonder who is gonna replace him though. Seems like Eric has a trust in Mount to fill in as a more offensive no8, can he match Fred's immense fitness, hundreds of tackles, interceptions and presses in the final third for crucial turnovers in the final third which created countless chances let alone stopping countless of attacks, constantly covering for other players..

It would be much better if we could just ship out useless Eriksen who just fell from a cliff fitness wise (even bigger hit than Mata imo), and is absolutely unable to play the game at the highest level, quite noticable whenever we played some above average team who could press a little... and McTominay who is just gash overall.

Fred, Amrabat, Mount, Bruno, looks fairly good bunch but not enough depth there. Having an athletic player like Fred for depth would be great which would allow us to play the game at the high tempo throughout the whole season. But like you said Erik doesn't rate him that high and Fred just fancies a team to start more games..

Think Fullham would be a great team for him to show he's still among the best in the role he plays and help them push for the Europa league places the next season. Perhaps they are playing the hardball with the one-year-left on the contract and 30yo player's value as well as the little budget they have..

Surprised someone with Fred's stature and profile hasn't attracted any interest from Saudi. He seems a shoe in for a £15m+ type of deal from one of those clubs.

Think they are probably close to pulling down the shutters on buying for this summer

I'm quite fond of Fred too and have appreciated him over the years. Having said that, Mount is coming in and is absolutely elite out of possession with far less of Fred's technical deficiencies in possession. Mount also has just a very high game IQ and managers always love him. Fred could never be accused of being one of the defensive minds of his generation and he is a complete agent of chaos in midfield. With the current midfield composition, it's the right time to part ways with Fred. Eriksen has lost his legs but suspect he will be the Bruno back up rather than the Mount back up with presumably Amrabat coming into deputise for Mount if there's injuries with would allow tactical flexibility. I really think at 30, it's just time to cash in on Fred and wish him well.

He absolutely should be going to Saudi Arabia. Get him and us huge pay days. Like Fred but his style of play means he'll deteriorate quite quickly once he hits the wall.

Yeah I agree

It looks like we’re going to get between 10-12m for him he’d be a great player for half the PL teams at that price. Im surprised more clubs aren’t in for him in all honesty.

There is Saydit interest but he seems to want to stay in Europe.

So long and thanks for all the hilarity. Fred does seem like a nice guy and has a great attitude, but he’s kind of an all-rounder without a specific skill set. He’s too erratic anyway, even when he delivers 45 minutes of quality you still have 45 harrowing minutes to sit through. Lazio would be great for him, assuming they’ve come to grips with their racism problem. At the end of the day I don’t care where he goes or for how much, just that he goes.

I always forget about him. Cas, Fred, Anderson, Rafael, Kleb in order for me
Where do Antony and Fabio slot in?

It's a shame we have never really had a Brazilian star, as Casemiro is little more than a cameo at the twighlight of his career, and the others haven't really been stars for us. Imagine a Ronaldo, Ronaldinho or Neymar playing in the red of United at the peak of their powers.

Fred is worth around 30m considering his age but given it’s the last year of his contract we can’t expect too much. Try to get 20 otherwise 10-15 will have to do. Not worth it to delay if signings depend on it.

So the £50m player is easier to complete than the £15m valued transfer. So are Spurs looking to give Ndombele away?

Ndombele is no way near being £50m rated if that's what you mean

Spurs would be lucky to move him on a perm for a fee considering he's reportedly on 200k a week and can't run for more than 15 minutes
