He reminds me of when I was a kid at school or even watching my own son when you're put onto a football field for the first time. You've no system in your head and you just chase the ball all over the place. He totally lacks composure and is far too raw to have paid that money for him. And yes that's my analysis after just 3 games!

He looks talented but far too raw for a 45-50 million pound player. Hopefully we see a better version as the season goes on.

That is quite an apt description.

I thought we would be getting a less raw player.

Though it's still early days and the team is struggling.

Ed can’t win. Spends 50m and now people are saying the player is too this and that to have spent that money on. The same would have been said when the new CB we signed for 60-70m failed in Jose’s system. What’s the odds on so many players looking awful? We’re talking league winners, players coming from good World cups.

He needs to be dropped till he settles.

Only one erratic headless chicken in Pogba is enough in our midfield. We can't afford 2.

I think he's shown all the tools in his locker and an aptitude to want to adapt to the uniqueness of English football. He looks promising so far and iron forges iron..

But I will just say this, what the hell how have we paid 50m for this guy? He looks like a raw 22 year old talent that you plucked out of obscurity for 9m and you take a punt on him and let him settle for a year before slowly introducing him into the fold because he's raw and unharnessed, watching him grow. Not a guy you go out and spungulate 50m on... Our business is so bizarre sometimes.

He was decent last night, especially in first half hour. Aggressive, snappy in the tackle, looking for the ball and making good forward runs. A bit chaotic at times too and not perfect but by no means the worst.

He was one of the better ones imo, the skill is there, he has it it's obvious to see. Quick, good on the ball, both short and long passes, he will come good imo.

Completely the wrong profile of player we have recruited AGAIN!. When I see the fella Chelsea recruited for their midfield, it's night and day.

Again with the knee jerking. He was good. Far from our worst player as many of the previous comments would have you believe.

Even at late stages he was still flying around and trying. Unlike the famous Barcelona bound midfielder.

I thought he had a decent game. Full of energy, good on the ball. Only problem was he lost his markers easily by giving up tracking in the final third but his passing was good.

He created more chances than any players on the pitch. He has very high stamina, he would be effective in step up where we don't rely on hoofing balls. It is clearly shown that he will be more good when he finally settled in EPL.

Thought he was our 2nd best player personally. Him and Shaw were the only ones who could hold their heads high.

Yes he can still improve and needs to get a bit more used to the physical battles, but his skill on the ball is great to see.

Can't remember the last time we've had a back heel in the box or a step over following to a near shot.

I thought he was decent last night, certainly our best midfielder. Feel sorry for him being put in such a dysfunctional team though really, not exactly ideal circumstances to thrive long term.

I have a feeling he’s doing an Evra. Looking like a lunatic before settling.

He did alright last night, one of our better players. I like his attitude, but he's extremely raw of a guy of his age and the amount of money we splashed on him.

Has the ability, hope he comes good sooner rather than later. I'm concerned he will get sent off at least once this season.

The problem is pretty obvious. I think the majority are now starting to see it.

He has improved slightly in every game he has played. His touch is getting sharper, hes taking less time on the ball, and his passes are getting crisper. Against Spurs he looked like he'd been in the PL far longer than 3 games. I'm not too worried about him.

He was one of our best players on show. Ran himself into the ground and played some good passes along with some bad ones. But when we can get the whole team playing he will show much better.

I agree with some of your points, but just pointing out that he only tackled once and made one interception.

He was instrumental to our early high press. Even if he only made two turnovers he made spurs believe he was capable of more. Pity we couldn’t sustain that pressure but not all Fred’s fault.

Ditto the lad looks an upgrade on Herrera.

Very good potential, he needs to discipline his game but that will come naturally with more matches. It's difficult to look good in a new league especially when your new team isn't performing well. Give him time and you have a gem of centre mid. He would fit well in most teams and he is certainly built for the league.

Our business really is bizarre, everyday I try and engage my brain in trying to work out why we paid x amount for X player.
I think I’ve found the answer.

- Player puts in good performances for a big club from a shit league.
- Player plays well in one Champions League game.
- Big club from shit league briefs players agent to release story that “Real, Barca, United and Bayern” are ‘looking at the player’.
- Agent releases brief saying ‘Guardiola likes the player’

- Manchester United immediately begin starting bid at 50 million for player.

I can't believe people are already shitting on this guy . He's played 3 games and hasn't even been bad. He'll improve as the season goes on

Yup, the state of this place man

Understandable to some degree, there's plenty of tension around this club and one would expect that it would also be reflected on the Caf.

Looks an exciting player to me. Far too early to judge him and he has all the attributes we were craving to be added to our midfield - technically solid, forward passer, good in tight spaces and has a engine and bite. Only flaw from an individual perspective is physically he’s easy to push around but that will improve in due course. Tactically he’s abit all over the place but I don’t really see that improving under the current set up. Definitely a player who could work his way into other top 6 sides midfield if coached properly.

One thing you have to say is that most Jose signings have that zip about them and he certainly has that dynamism which is the hallmark of a decent United player.

The attributes are easy to see so not sure why people are complaining about him. Its so clear that he is playing in a team that is 2x slower than his tempo. If you want us to play quick, crisp attacking football, these are the kind of players you need to build around.

One for the weird feelings of football thread. I like the lad and I think he fits the Jose Mourinho profile really well as a hard worker who really wants to slot in and make things happen. But he still feels a bit like a young/raw punt to me. I guess Woody wants that "WE SPENT BER-JILLIONS" stuff for the value of the club.

I think he's been alright so far. He provides a good energy and drive from midfield, seems decent at creating space to get shots off, nice close-control in tight situations, and can spot a pass. He hasn't been consistent during games thus far, but I think a lot of that is down to him needing to get used the the pace of the PL. Once this happens, I'm hoping we'll see a real gem of a player.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far, tenacious, quick, can pick out a pass, once he gets used to the pace of the premiership (and he ain’t that far off) he could prove to be a sound buy, I think he’ll really suit the pressing game like our first half against Spurs, let’s just hope this is in Mourinhos mind:nervous:

He fits perfectly into the pressing game. If we continue with that style he will be one of our most important players. Give him time to adjust to the pace of the PL.

I've never seen our game performance against Spurs like before under Jose, always thought we'd be reactive but we bullied them into submission, pushed them to sit so deeper considering they are more possession-based who want to play attacking football and cannot handle our pressing, if we had world class defence, we probably would have won game. I think Fred has made a huge improvement to our style of play just like Carrick was when we brought him in 2006, then went to win the league.

This. He was great against spurs. His pass at 3.47 to start the counter

People are really bagging on this guy? A new signing that has some top class qualities but is obviously trying a little too hard to impress leading to a bit of erratic-ness.

Fantastic presser, great work rate (almost always the first one to make supporting tuns into attack), good passing between the lines.

I'd say him and Shaw have been steadily improving and been standout players.
