Frank Lampard | Coventry City?

Anyone watched it yet? Key take aways?

I watched bits of it. Nothing out of the ordinary. He spoke about his childhood, the beginnings of his career at West Ham etc.

He spoke about the shitshow at Chelsea last season - he said the fitness levels was unbelievably low, that it was hard to motivate a group of 33 players when you know you can only use 18 on any given match day, so every Friday he had to tell 15 people they weren't playing. He described what it was like trying to prepare with the core group he had selected for the match whilst telling 18 others to train on a separate pitch etc with most of them knowing they weren't going to be at Chelsea come the summer (as we've now seen). He was asked why he took the job and he answer was something a long the lines of 'I love the club, I thought I could help, be the fresh voice to the group but I quickly realised a lot of players were just kinda waiting for the season to finish'.

A lot of Palace fans wonder why John Textor owns 46% of Crystal Palace and yet the other 3 shareholders regularly outvote him to the point he now wants rid.

Now it makes perfect sense.

If Lampard thought Chelsea supporters make pressure, I hope he is ready to feel the pressure at Olympique. If things don't improve real quick scenes like having the training center invaded will happen.

Gattuso has agreed to join Lyon so Lampard probably won't be getting that job.

I actually really want to see Frank Lampard back in management. I'd prefer the Premier League, but anywhere will do.

Lyon's 35 years stay in the top tier coming to an unfortunate end.

They're scrapping the bottom of the barrel and understandably no one is really interested in joining a side in crisis that sold most of its good players and owned by a group that already cemented itself as either clownish or shady.
Tried Potter but he turned down the offer.
I think Gattuso is the most likely prospect, he's pushed by Mendes (IIRC).

Linked with the Burnley job. Think that would be perfect for him to go into. You're basically set up to succeed so if you don't it will end all his hopes of being a manager.

Yep perfect bet Rooney’s annoyed he already took Plymouth.

Can’t understand why lampard is touted for so many jobs and not ole when ole has a far better record than him

I have a feeling Ole isn't as desperate to get back into management if the job doesn't feel right for him. He's fulfilled his dream job and I'm sure he's not struggling for cash, so he probably prefers spending his weekends watching United like every other fan instead of slugging it out in the Championship.

TBF Lampard has managed his dream job twice.

He needs to go in as an assistant with a top manager, to actually lean how to be a manager, but his ego is too big to do that? Same as Rooney to a degree. Though Lampard has more aptitude for it, if he was actually prepared to shed his playing reputation and start again pretty much. Could be a very good manager.

Why does he need to do that? I personally just think he's chosen jobs terribly. Burnley would be the first club which isn't in disarray and is relatively on the 'up'.

Why do people have an issue with this? He’s dropped down a level. He’s taking over a championship team. I think he should have dropped down to the championship immediately after leaving Chelsea but if he’s there now, that’s good.

Why is he still considered a manager.

Did pretty well at Derby, from what I can remember. He then got his move to Chelsea following his impressive time at Derby. Unfortunately for him, he didn't go so well for him at Chelsea, but he won't be the first nor the last manager that has failed at Chelsea. Everton was also a tough one, but again, Everton weren't in the best place at the time, and still aren't now. There's been better managers to go there and fail.

Burnley be an interesting move for him.

Tbf, in his first season at Chelsea he got them fourth whilst they were under a transfer embargo and had to integrate quite a few of their youth players. I would say his first two seasons as a manager were ok, it was what came next that completely exposed his tactical nous and man management skills.

I got excited the first season thinking he really had something (despite the defensive frailties) but in hindsight it looked like it was the muscle memory of Sarri training still in play, after lockdown we basically resorted straight to cross and pray tactics and the only reasons things didn't nosediving earlier than they did was first Pulisic purple patch then the Mendy/Silva impact.

I know it's a lot different being a pundit and a manager but when I hear him speak about the game I scratch my head at how he makes so many amateur mistakes at management, on paper he should have at the absolute worst been a solid PL level manager (maybe it's still not too late if he's used this last year to intensely study the game the way Howe did between Bournemouth and Newcastle).

He's always named as one of the candidates but never gets the job. Suggests he's interviewing and desperate to get a job anywhere.

At least Lampard to Roma would give us six incredible weeks before they sack him and tell him to shove Jody Morris up his bollocks.

Isn't Paulo Sousa also linked the job. That would also be a crazy appointment.

A shortlist for the Roma gig, with both Lampard and Sousa as serious candidates, is just farcical.
