Frank Lampard | Coventry City?

Has a caretaker manager taking charge for just a small part of the season ever been sacked? What's the point

Surely the plan was to get rid of Potter at all cost than to hire someone to save the season?

Solari sort of was. Technically we wasn’t a caretaker manager because you can’t be a caretaker manager for longer than 2 weeks in Spain, but he replaced Lopetegui a few months into the season and was sacked a few months before it finished. That was Zidane’s comeback.

Officially the only ever Chelsea manager to start a tenure with four straight defeats. Elite achievement.

Dayum, what really sticks out other than a sea of losses is the fact his team has only scored more than 1 goal in just one of those games!

Ole used to get slaughtered by the media for significantly better results nowhere near as bad as Frank’s. Yet you barely hear a word about Frankie.

Should have stayed longer at Derby to polish his skills, maybe he could have become a half decent lower PL teams manager.

The financial situation at Derby meant that he got out at the right time.

The mistake he made was taking on Everton after Chelsea.

Data based hiring eh ?

Brentford, Bournemouth and Forest the games we can hope of getting points.

If we didn't win another game this season it wouldn't surprise me at all...

I said it at the time. Everton were in an extremely toxic and volatile situation at the time. There was absolutely no need for him to take on such an impossible task. I had hoped better for him but his tendency to make the wrong move is going to torpedo his career before it even gets off the ground.

He has the easiest job in football. It literally doesn't matter what happens until the end it the season. Maybe they shouldn't have hired anyone and just picked 11 players at random each game?

Only way I can see Chelsea winning a game right now is if your final few fixtures are dead rubbers and opposition has nothing to play for. I felt the same as a Man Utd fan after the first couple of fixtures this season, I couldn't see where the next result was coming.

Or perhaps we shouldn’t have fired Potter?

Rangnick should have been. I'd have let Albert the kitman have the job before him.

 Nah. If anything, his Everton tenure this season is more reflective of him being a bad manager than this chelsea stint.
I know I tease you a bit with this, but it's all in jest, just want to clarify ;) I just honestly don't see anything about Lampard that gives me the impression he's made for management, no style of play, no decisiveness, an incapacity to take any accountability for his own shortcomings... He comes across as very arrogant and entitled, in my view, and I don't think those are great qualities in a business where constant improvement is needed.
Has relegation battling experience too.
He'll probably get them in a relegation fight, avoid the drop, and the media will make it out as some kind of managerial success, just like at Everton.

Oh yeah, no worries and I'm not taking offence. :D For whatever reason, Lampard believes he is. As much as you and others think he's a bad manager and for as much as I and possibly ( @WeePat ) thinks he can still be a decent manager, Lampard seems to want to forge a managerial career. If he is serious about that, he needs to be more sensible with his career choices which have been highly emotional (a bit like his management career to date) which is surprising as he always struck me as quite a logical player and person.

If he does make a sensible choice and still fails I will finally admit he is crap. :p

Totally forgot about Derby's financial situation.

I think the perception when he was Derby was that he was a progressive upcoming, talented manager and his stock was high then.

Yeah you are right, shouldn't have gone to Everton.

He hasn't made a good decision since leaving Derby. Shouldn't have managed Chelsea the first time round or now. Everton were a mess and he was praised for not quite being bad enough to take them down, despite giving it a good go!

His starting line-up yesterday was mindblowing. It was like a Pep's approach by placing as many central players as possible, but with this small detail of being totally ineffective.

That game is completely wiped from my memory, most of that season is really. I have zero recollection of Costa scoring that goal. I know we turned up and scuppered Tottenham’s hopes that season too, one of the only memorable things from that season.
Speaking of Costa, it's gone under the radar that Wolves are at The Emirates on the last day.

Imagine him scoring the goal that turns out to be the difference in the title race

Yet gets off lightly compared to Ole

Because you're a bigger club so you get more attention for good and bad.

For example I doubt Mudryk will get an article like this if he scores and assists against Forest.

Does he? Or does ole get more criticism on here because its a united forum, Frank's mates in the media defend him but so did Ole's when he was here

He does get off a little lighter, but as bad as Frank is as a manager, he is well spoken in front of a camera. Ole was nowhere near that comfort level. I think that is the difference. For what its worth, I think Ole was a better manager than Frank, but would not want either of them.

I do also think that lampard being English does get him slightly better treatment than ole, the same way that Steve Bruce managed to inexplicably continue getting managerial jobs. But yes, agreed, I think ole is a bit better but not by much and neither are PL quality
