Foxes Talk goes into meltdown

I think they are going down

But if I was a Leicester fan I'd like to think I'd still be on cloud 9. I don't think I would have it upon me to be angry at the players or manager. In fact I know I wouldn't

They have the infrastructure to bounce back again. But Raneiri should resign no matter what in the summer

Would love it if they were relegated. I don't care if that's "mean" or anything.
A mix of one of the most ridiculous teams to ever win the league, a vile character like Vardy heading them, and that 5-3 all are good reasons.

Last year was such a freak. The big clubs were all in a crazy state of flux, and they had Kante and a few others playing absolutely incredible once in a career level seasons.
This year, they've all fallen to their actual level.

It shows why you don't buy a player for a big fee based on one good season, as Vardy and Mahrez would have shown.

Maybe there is a thing with winning the league in recent years. Chelsea won it 2 years ago and collapse the following season, same thing happened to Leicester.

Is something up with this. If so Arsenal are the safest team in the league given they're serial top 4 winner and don't have to worry about the league title curse.

Don't forget us under Moyes.

Since Fergie retired, the champions have not made into the top 3 in the following season.
Edit: other than City in 2015.

So much went their way last season that was unsustainable. They were awarded 13 penalties for one.

As long as they are still in Champions League, Ranieri should remain manager. It will be interesting to see of they raise their level against Sevilla and if they carry it into the league. They are all mentally and physically spent.
But they will never be able to win the CL and it's very important to avoid relegation. It this awful situation in the PL continues for them then something must happen. Unfortunately the "easiest" way is generally appointing a new manager which hopefully will inject new energy and maybe different tactics.

See edit just above.:D
Smooth :D

But yeah, pretty amazing that no one has managed to defend the title since United between 06-09. I don't think a title holder hasn't even put up much of a fight to defend the title since us in 2012. 2013 was a cakewalk for United and 2015 was a cakewalk for Chelsea.

Just shows how good Fergie was.

And the hunger to keep fighting after winning everything.

It's all about maintaining the intensity, which requires astute management alongwith a quality squad. Winning the English league takes mammoth effort. Only Sir Alex has been able to repeat it year after year in modern times.

I do feel defending champions should start with fringe players the next season. For example, if Conte started with the same eleven next season, he might experience a dip. But players like Fabregas, Batshuayi, Zouma would be eager to step up.

That way, motivation wouldn't be a problem and there might even one or two extraordinary performers. The manager can then gradually revert to his original first-choice team (if he wants to) in the business end of the season.

In such a gruelling league, using the whole squad becomes important. SAF perfected that skill.

What happened to Mendy? Highly rated at Nice with some eye-catching stats and bought to replace Kante not stylistically, but quality wise as a player. I remember him getting a serious injury at the start of the season but it was only supposed to be 3 months but he's basically disappeared the face of the earth.

As if it wasn't baffling enough that they won the league with the same team. They had to have been on drugs.

Mind you, they probably got the wrong batch this season.

I don't really get the anger at ranieri.

Their team is shite. They were shite two years ago and they're shite this season. Last year was a weird, kante shaped, blip.

Wes Morgan is a crap defender, he had one stand out season in an otherwise average career. Vardy is the same, if not worse. Simpson has always been useless, drinkwater was dropped from united without even making a dent in the first team. Albrighton was deemed too shit for aston fecking villa.

Why are people surprised that a team that is comprised of rubbish players is rubbish? Everyone is basing the ability of the leicester squad off last season and forgetting the awful players these people have been their entire careers.

Wouldn't it be funny if Liverpool finish 4th, we finish 5th and win the EL, and Leicester win the CL?

Unless I am wrong, that would mean top 3, us, and Leicester would qualify for the CL.

Never going to happen.

It's not just recent times

Only one other side has managed to defend in the pl era and that was Chelsea when Roman was the only sugar daddy in town

The squad needs massive retooling. Their back four are all in their 30s and are mentally checked out. Their midfield apart from Mahrez is individually average and good at best. Their team and collective tactics last year were spot on. Everything went their way. The players simply aren't good enough, especially between the ears. Their confidence is low because the league found them out and adjusted accordingly. There was no proper success plan to adjust as champions from player purchase, tactical adjustment and resolve.

Kante is good but he wasn't the only factor in their success last year, Vardy scoring with every shot was equally as important, now he couldn't hit a barn door.
His chance conversion rate is actually better this season than last. Or it was before today at least.

They really failed to capitalise on their champion status in the transfer market. They should have stuck to the same blueprint in terms of style but tried to improve the individual quality IMO.

Defence should have been a priority as Huth and Morgan were always going to get found out eventually.

Not sure how signing Zieler to sit on the bench has really improved them and Slimani didn't fit into their way of playing.

I think Slimani's signing, coupled with their failed bid for Deeney, makes me think that Leicester were attempting to come up with a way to deal with deep lying defences by having a target man in order to knock balls down for Vardy/Musa.
An inevitable failure of course and sums up their season.

Such an utter lack of romance. My heart goes out to you, Sandikan. Anyone not moved by that last season must have a heart of stone.

I think they made a deal with the devil. The players are all outcasts so were offered, you can win the title, but you will also have to be relegated the following season.

Maybe that is better than two 17th place finishes.

Sevilla will put an end to that one.

I've got money on them to get past Sevilla, genuinely think they have a chance.
Sevilla are the much better side of course and certainly know how to win in Europe, but I think Leicester can progress.

I have a vague memory of Best saying after we won the European Cup in '68 that things changed at old Trafford. He said there was no hunger anymore - they'd done what they needed to do to prove themselves and there was nothing else that could equal it. He said that the atmosphere in the club changed and players started to not care about the next season. Wonder if something similar is happening at Leicester?

Oh don't get me wrong, I was delighted that they stopped our rivals winning it

But now, their time is done and I want them down.

Most of these players if not all couldn't have dreamed that they would become Champions. So when they went and climbed Everest pulling off the biggest upset in modern football - what motivation will they have left to try it again?

They are a squad of largely journeymen footballers after-all.

Sevilla win by 3+ in the home leg. Huge gulf is quality, I'd back Sevilla to have a decent chance of knocking any English side out over two legs, let alone Leicester.
