An interesting read, can't say I agree with every top ten order or the selection of players but interesting read nevertheless.

Only one Man Utd player makes any of the lists. Probably guess who....

Haven't gone through the lot, but funny how they put Courtois in this time.

Right wingers are slim pickings if Messi is still on those lists! And I’m saying this as huge fan. He’s been fantastic for argentina though.

He is easily in the top 10 still. He left Europe too early, he was a top 5 player in the world still when he moved to the US. But he deserved to take it easy and wind down.

Kroos as only the 10th best central midfielder pretty much invalidates the entire bloody thing.

Modric above Kroos and Camavinga above Tchoumanei are questionable takes

Yeah, I just dont think a year playing in the USA with no major international tournaments should have him in there, but he’s still definitely better than most on that list if we’re being honest.

Problem with these lists is that they always just parrot conventional wisdom. Not any really interesting takes.

Also am I the only one seeing a picture of Kulusevski under Michael Olise's name lol? Couldn't have two people who look more different.

Messi came and a turned a team that lost nearly ever game in the MLS into a winning machine by himself. Granted MLS doesnt hold quite the standard we are used to in Europe, the player himself is so far and above anyone over there its a bit unfair to say he isnt in the top10 list in the world, considering he had a world class showing as late as the 2022 WC

The central midfielders list seems like something that went through a randomizer.

Allison is another in a long list of overrated Liverpool players. He’s fine yeah, but to suggest he’s the best in the world is absurd.

Most of the DMs they listed are CMs.

Salah is better than Saka, but at least they got the top two right there.

Lautaro, Gyokeres and Watkins are massively overrated. Foden too.

Agree with the Alisson number 1 pick.

Grimaldo and Frimpong shouldn't be considered left and right backs.

Some of the rankings seem all over the place.
Also somewhat pl biased.

I think ederson is over rated, courteous and martinez are too low.

You’re preaching to the choir here. I guess I just assumed anyone plying their trade in the MLS (& ditto Saudi) should be disqualified. But this is Messi we’re talking about here and I do agree, he’d still easily be top 10 (if not top 5) if he stayed in Europe.

Why?

I think Ederson is not a top 2 shot-stopper, not even close, but probably a top 2 ball-player. But if that was heavily considered then Onana is no doubt top 10 as well.

I think Emiliano Martínez is overrated.

They both basically spend more time in the opposition's half than their own. They have almost no defensive duties in that back 5 they play with compared to what a tradition full back faces in a back 4. Neither of them would work in a back 4 IMO.

Rankings are all over the place. Rudiger best CB in the world? Laughable.

Messi is also still very much the best Right wing in world football. Better than Saka. Better than Salah.

Nonsens list and rankings. Just like lot of players awards. Often nothing to do with reality.

The list made me realise how dreadful the current depth of center forwards is aside from their top 3 or 2 if we base it on their overall game.

A nadir of the position for sure.

To be honest the lists reinforced my belief that football is going through a transitioning phase, I think in 2/3 seasons time the standards will be higher.

I don't think Rudiger at #1 is a particularly weird choice.

David Alaba as #8 is the truly baffling one.

But that is just tactics. You are talking about tradition but many of the top teams camp in the opposition half now with the last outfield player on the half way line.

They do what is asked of them in their team as the wing backs. Yeah maybe they wouldn't look as good in another team with different tactics, but you could say that about most players.

Courtois has been injured, but he's one of the greatest goalkeepers of all-time, the idea that he's 10th and Ederson is 2nd is laughable really. Ake 7th best CB in the world is also a dodgy pick, mostly plays left-back and Pep even dropped him for most of this season.

Many good midfielders around which is encouraging but otherwise yeah, dearth of quality all over.

Hopefully the next generation is ready to take over.

Dude he's amazing. I don't like Liverpool, but he's one of 2 top players they have.
