Stop paying attention to this a while ago
Since the werewolf one is pretty popular and crappycraperson is setting up another, would it be a decent idea to put all forum game related content into one sub forum of the general chat?

Could encourage more game like stuff.

Just a thought.

It's just a phase. They'll grow out of it :)

I agree. They're all Gay and shit.

My opinion could be based on the fact that Cider wouldn't let me play.

Seems unnecessary at this point imo. Things are working just fine in the general. If the interest stays long term we can talk about it again I guess.

I'd just like to briefly raise this point again. I really feel that these games should be kept in a subforum, maybe put it in with the fantasy football thread. It seems clear to me that when one of the games is going on that the general pretty much dies of all other conversation and it's the only active thread going.

I'm not complaining about the games themselves as I play them, but I do feel that in the general they are having a detrimental effect.

Why not just make a fantasy forum where you can all play dungeons and dragons til your hearts content in the shadowy caf basement, out of sight of everyone else.

Why must the rest of the general die when the game is on? There are only 27 people playing. what's keeping the others from posting in other threads?

I wonder this myself, but in fairness it does seem to be the case. Maybe if posting and thread creation volumes could be monitered during the new game starting tonight then we will see if I'm right.

During the last games there was damn all activity in the rest of the board.

Well if activity in the general goes down, it's either because,
a) the game takes up so much time of the involved posters that they don't post much elsewhere, in which case moving it to another forum would change nothing
or b) people are deterred from posting in the general because the werewolf thread is always at the top of the page, which is silly.

It doesn't make a difference then does it. Everyone would be in there rather than the general and it would be the same.

Would you pay to have the 'feature' implimented?

It can't go on this way, I'm going to start limiting these games to monthly affairs. It's good to play and we welcome games on the boards, but not at the expanse of our traffic and activity in the main boards.

Thoughts?

They shouldn't be removed, but they have to be staggered as it's killing the general forum. The current game has nearly 5,000 posts in it, while on the bottom of the first page of the General, we have threads which were last posted on the 10th. It's a good game but the damage it is doing to that forum is evident, and can't go on. Once a month is a good amount of time, means there's plenty of games throughout the year and won't dry up the general like it has been doing.

I'm going to enforce this unless people have drastic disagreements with it.

Well why not simply put it in a sub forum where its out of the way?

From what Hectic's saying, I imagine the issue isn't "It's in the general" so much as "It being anywhere on the board is having a huge negative impact on the posting in the general". Putting it in a sub-forum wouldn't change that.

Given one game lasts about a week or so, twice a month should be fair though the novelty of the game is wearing off and will do so gradually anyway. So Two games within a gap of each other in a month would be best for the game and the board.

Er, the posters would post in that sub-forum instead of the general. Still, doesn't solve the problem of the general drying up.

I don't get it Hectic.

Only 27 people post in the thread, how is that harming the General?

The randy nature of the General thread has gone and therefore alot of users who'd normally post half naked pictures of women have buggered off. If its also true that theres a seperate general thread for OAP's then perhaps that could also be partly to blame? You think of all the popular General Threads in the last year and how many of them survived Googlegate. Very few.

I'd be interested to see what the General is like next week when there isn't a game ;)

I also agree with this somewhat. The general drying up cannot be solely blamed on the emergence of this game.

I don't understand how someone goes in to the general and decides not to post just because a thread they don't like is at the top of the page, but if it is true that there is less activity in the general when the games are being played then I can understand restricting them to once a month or something.

This.

The generals died. The whole point of the games was to bring the general some life in a somewhat boring summer.

Posters spending all their time in one thread means others are less active, its pretty straight forwards.

Agreed.

I just don't think that will be the case, I managed to avoid all of the shit transfer threads but that didn't stop me going in the forum and looking at the decent threads ;)

I'd suggest that banning spammers/googlegate/new private forum/werewolf game all have a part to play in why the General is down. Just my opinion of course.

Pops, we still have time to post elsewhere as I have been throughout the Summer. If anything it's actually made me post more on the Caf! So i'd say you have your wires crossed there i'm afraid.
