Gaming Football Manager 2020 (PC, Mac, Switch, Android, iOS, Stadia)

Considering getting this as my most recent version is 2017. Would you say there has been enough new features to warrant it? What's the AI manager histories like? Used to be hard to track their progression, win % etc.

I've played quite every version since many years and I love 2020, recommending it whenever I have a chance. Admittedly I am a bit jaded and spoiled fan of the series and I find as much pleasure in youth/player development as I do in managing first team, so the new development centre and more natural individual training feel really good for me. If you're interested in AI histories I can take few screenshots of what Premier League looks like in my save where I'm in my sixth season, I can tell you that Ole is still at the wheel and his stats ingame seem well inflated compared to reality

This years is my first in about 6-7 years and I think it's excellent. I recommend it.

Hmm. Not sure about the latest match engine update. Seems a little too easy now.

I wonder if that is why I have suddenly became unbeatable in my Milan save. I changed tactics and my ego thought that was the reason, but maybe not :D

Thanks for the recommendations. Screenshot would be handy if time allows.

The only gripe I've had is that a lot my players seem to be getting their heads turned by PSG. Pogba, Camavinga, Havertz and GREENWOOD!?! of all people have been targeted by PSG and they've now refused to sign new deals and could end up walking on a free. While this *potentially* could happen (especially the french lads) there's no way they should be able to poach Greenwood, especially as I've had him in my first team since the start and he's now a world class striker at the age of 23.

I've had to end up buying the editor for £4 and putting extra length on their contracts  It's the only cheating I've allowed myself but this really annoyed me.

I had similar with Besiktas. Won the Turkish treble but the club was in debt, and all my main players suddenly wanted a new contract which I couldn't give, so they all were unhappy and I had to sell them.

Also - I remember in 2017 you had to have a dodgy 3d face. Can you use a picture/blank in this one?

20 September 2024, I''m playing Leicester so I had no influence on United whatsoever apart from selling us Ricardo Pereira around 2022 and unsuccessfully poaching Rashford.

1. Rashford - a beast, one of the best left forwards in the game.

2. United over the years - Ole got us a title in 20/21 but later it's been a rough ride and even 9th place in 23/24.

3. Current squad. Mejbri is a key player, Zaniolo a midfielder I'm very jealous about.

4. Obligatory Greenwood, he's such a talent in this game and almost always develops to one of the best strikers of his generation.

How’s Sancho performed for people? He wants to leave Dortmund, and City have offered his release clause. I have 2 players that I’d consider swapping for Sancho and that’s Martial or Chiesa. Both of them get decent numbers though and Sancho hasn’t looked that great at Dortmund.

Was just wondering if anyone has had him this year and how has he done for them?

FM is just an evil game sometimes it seems to just enjoy trying to ruin your save. I'm still on FM19 but was doing a 'non-league to legend' challenge and had got the Newcastle job, couple of seasons there and I'm sitting 2nd in the league coming in to January, my team was then feasted on by other clubs and I could do little about it unless I wanted an unhappy squad. Ended up not being able to register half the new players I had to bring in for the CL. Then 2 weeks before the CL final my number 1 keeper breaks a finger in training.

Clubs also have a habit of offering a decent amount for a player, you turn it down so the player gets mad and requests to leave so you offer them out at the same amount and the original club seems to now have zero interest and you then get 5 clubs bidding for the player at a 5th of their value.

I've always found it very frustrating, but at the end of the day - isn't that rather realistic?

I always try and keep my best players on long contracts, offering them a new one every year. This is with a much smaller club than United. At least I know I can force the player to stay, hoping he will drop the unhappiness, or wait for a club to offer big money, instead of transfer listing.

Also take out the minimum fee release clause and set it to not able to include, or whatever it says. Otherwise on the next offer, the agent will lock the clause in. And you’ll have to offer it.

I don't think so, if United had bid £10m for a player and the club refused, the player kicking up a fuss so the club decided they will sell him for £10m, that isn't going to mean United now have no interest in the guy and Brighton, Bournemouth and Southampton are now offering £2m.

Getting key injuries before a CL final always happens, and to the AI as well! Before I played Liverpool in the final they had a full squad. However 48 hours prior, Salah, Mane, Keita and Matip all have injuries along with 2 of my starters. Allison got injured in game too which is rare in itself seeing a goalkeeper injured in FM.

Well, United bids 10m for a guy from Derby, Derby say he’s not for sale, player kicks up a fuss and says he wants to move to premier league, ends up on a transfer list, United already got another player for this position and Brighton, Bournemouth and Soton end up bidding 5-6m for said player. Doesn’t seem too far-fetched to me and in my experience the later offers are rarely 5 times lower...

United in this case move extremely fast and stealthily because this can happen within a day and they never look to have signed anyone else. It's generally not a 5th but that does happen, I've had offers come in below that as well.
The bids would make a bit more sense if they were negotiable, who bids way below what a club wants for a player a day after a club turns down a much higher offer and refuses to even budge on it?

Absolutely loving the new match engine changes. It's just very refreshing to see your striker get a 1v1 and know he might actually have half a chance of finishing it. Also allows for moments like this where my naff bits-and-pieces centre mid picks up the ball on the edge of his own box and decides he's the second coming of Iniesta

As for mental 'only in FM' happenings... It's 2026 and Barca have replaced Messi with Alex Iwobi. They're winning the league pretty comfortably with him as their top scorer

So many people have complained about the match engine but I think it’s much improved on the latest update.

I’ve seen on one save Iwobi playing for United. As a centre mid for some reason  Weird things I’ve seen Is Pepe is Huddersfield manager. The ex Madrid and Porto player that is. And Roberto Martinez has gone full circle in being sacked from Belgium then spurs and is now back at Wigan:lol:

It's progress from the years clubs would just over-buy for positions, I remember City constantly stocking up with 5-6 average goalkeepers.

It's on there for £16.99 atm. Is that site legit? seems crazy cheap, steam has it for £39.99!

Yeah definitely. I paid £24.99 when it released. Like the other person said, you get a steam code emailed to you.

Yeah it's legit mate, they'll send it as a steam code, it's where I get me ps+ 12 month membership from.

Thanks, might have a look at it once I finally complete my pentagon challenge on Fm19.

It's just too easy now. Won everything there is to win first season with Porto using template tactics. No transfers. Beat Atlético, Chelsea, Juve and Spurs on the knockouts.

Thankyou! Couldn't agree more. In my fourth season with Brighton, the patch hit about half way through the season. I was around 5th (and to be fair my tactic and squad were doing really well), but results seemed almost too good in second half of the season. I finished 3rd and won the Europa in Brighton's first season in Europe.

Now i'm in October in Season 5. Brighton are top of the league by 5 points. I'd be delighted but it feels like the patch has made things too easy, rather than my tactic being unplayable.

I'm actually thinking of using a completely new tactic, to see if I can start getting some realistic results again.

I got my copy from CDkeys too for less than £20 however, when they sent my steam key and I tried to put it in, it did say it was already in use.

I emailed CDkeys and in fairness to them, they sorted it ot for me within a couple of hours and gave me a new working steam key.

Hotukdeals have notifed me that its now only £15.99 on CDKEYS for anyone who wises to pick it up cheap. They updated the game database with the winter transfers two days ago too.

Just signed Mbappe £190mil for my final season. What’s the best numbers people have got out of him?

Don’t know if anyone watches DoctorBenjy on YouTube, but I’m going to start his Glory Hunter challenge next I think.

That last season conclusion with Dortmund was magnificent.

Why are all of my strikers missing one on ones so often? Is the game broken?

Are you using the updated engine? I heard that they tried to fix the one on one issue a bit. In general I think strikers do need to miss them pretty often in FM as you create them way more than you really should.

I started a new save with United. The board let me spend £320m in the first window which was a bit mental. We won our first four games with a combined scored of 12-1. Rashford has 5 goals in 4 games. Zaniolo 2 goals and 2 assists. They are both mad at me because I "singled them out" suggesting the fact their attributes are going down means they aren't training well. I give up. I'm not buying it again until they fix player interactions, it's too much of a chore and it just doesn't work.

Just buy the editor for a few quid, you can clean their bad moods out instantly. The game is so enjoyable without these silly little issues (like the contract issues I had).

While I hate to cheat with it, it's cool that you can also make custom saves like a european super league etc.
