Florentino Perez leaked comments

That’s not what he was saying, he was saying they brought in that much for the club through commercial deals/shirt sales/overall commercial value to the club, whereas Raul didn’t even sell shirts. I thought it was pretty clear from the initial tweet and the context of what Perez was saying too?

Tweet says, Zidane/Becks/Zidane 'get' €30m/€25m. That reads to me that that is what their pay is. Could be a lost in translation as if it was income then it would be more appropriate to use 'bring in'/'generate'.

Additionally, the Raul bit reads like just another pop at him.

It's what they get in total, from all sources. The audio says "overall" clearly, but the Tweet does not.

Plus it makes sense since he's talking about image right topics all the time (Audi, proper behavior for advertising, Raul not selling anything etc).

I think he meant how much money they were bringing in.

Nobody knows hoy much money a player brings to the table, I think anyone that claims he knows it is just taking a piss. Yes you can say "past year we sold X shirts and got Y millions in image rights and now we got X+J and Y+J so J is the worth of the player", no one knows how many shirts another player would sell on higher or lesser wages, global context on sponsorship deals is important, etc...

If there was a way to fairly assess how much a top player brings to the table, guys like Raiola would have a field day rising his client's contract so they don't end up "losing money" playing for Real Madrid, United or Juventus.

Seems like a very wrong man, but he is probably your most succesful president I guess? But of a sticky situation.

Wasn't Cassillas know to be a snake?

It was believed he was leaking information to his girlfriend, so all those quotes regarding Casillas makes sense. His girlfriend would report some sensitive stuff about the team (the type of thing only the players and staff would know) during Mourinho's time and quote a private source.

Personally I started disliking Casillas since then because it was pretty obvious he was the one leaking stuff during his war against Mourinho and Perez did the right thing in getting rid of both of them. As for the rest this stuff is coming too late but I never understood the disrespect towards Crisitano.

So far, he has gravely insulted:

a) R.Madrid's best Spanish forward of all time and club legend.
b) R.Madrid's best GK of all time, best Spanish GK of all time and club legend.
c) One of the Top5 FWs of all time and club legend.
d) A prestigious (at that time) manager who defined the club's early 10's + 100 Points Liga record.
e) R. Madrid's most successful Spanish manager (2 Ligas, 2 UCLs) and the most successful Spanish manager of all time.

Please, keep those audios coming. Ramos next?

It was a private conversation. It was his personal opinion back then. it shouldnt be recorded in the beginning.

Last tweets:

"I wanted to sell Roberto Carlos to Chelsea, who really wanted to sign him, I would've sold him to them in exchange for Carvalho, and then I would've signed Zambrotta for like 2 euros, and we would've been set."
"Casillas isn't tall, and he can't even see well. I told Gines to take him to the optician, because he can't see. They shoot from outside the box, from corners... I swear I said it, I'm not lying."
"I would sign Buffon, from Juventus, because Casillas isn't a goalkeeper for Real Madrid."
"Raul has problems at home. And if you have problems at home, then get divorced, or separated or something."
"Raul is traumatized by women. His first girlfriend left him, he was with her for a long time. He's bitter."

Well, that’s either a true extortion case or a credibility smear campaign against the journo, and/or a mix of both.

But leaving that aside you would think that someone with the stature of Perez as a successful businessman should know better not to trust anyone around you who will not think twice to backstab you if they had the chance for the right sum of money and other ulterior motives. He's a big egomaniac that truly hates the idea of anyone with any sense of personality becoming bigger than him, no wonder why he has good things to say about people he has bought and brings in a lot of cash.

It's so laughable to know what he thought about Del Bosque, when Del Bosque had a better run without Perez than Perez without him.

Nobody wiretapped him. He was saying all these things to members of the press. According to Alfredo Relano from As, he would regularly say these things to any major sports journalist who covered Real Madrid, other club presidents, and famous people who'd show up at the Bernabeu. At that point it's hardly "private."

If he said those things off the record, they can be considered private and it’s pretty damning of the journalist’s integrity that they are now being made public. Being able to talk off the record and those talks remaining in total confidence is an incredibly important function of journalism.

Journalists who break that code undermine the trust people have in all journalists and that is dangerous as it reduces the chance that people will have the confidence to discuss issues with them privately before going on record.

Being able to talk off the record is ripe for abuse in real journalism, and at this point has just become a nonsensical rule where no one even thinks twice about whether comments should be allowed to be off the record or not.

Here we are not even talking about real journalism. We are talking about sports journalism, which is a laughable joke and does not serve any function of any kind. There is nothing ethical about being granted 'off the record' status so that you can call people you work with "retarded," and it has no value whatsoever to society.

Journalists who break that code wont be in their chosen profession for long. Damaged goods.

Audio leaked from Perez in which he says he's going to make "El Rondo", an old TV program in Spain's public TV, disappear and turn it into a Madridista TV program with Ferreras(TV journalist close to him).

We must preserve journalistic integrity by having a guy go off the record about who in the press he's paid off.

I think Flo has hot takes about every single person involved in Spanish and probably European football too.

Gross generalization. May be less "important" than political journalism for example but when done right it is no joke, unless you're willing to extrapolate that energy to sports in general

Perez doubtless had something to say about Ferguson. Wait until THAT comes out.

Question is why are these coming out now? Maybe the other higher ups in the organization are trying to get rid of the poor old man and set him as a scapegoat for the super league craziness.

Last line: Spanish omelette with or without onion

This keeps getting funnier and funnier

With, correct ?

Any chance anything happens from these tapes, or it's just noise?
The superleague was announced just after he secured re-election.

He'll never go willingly I reckon.

Always with onion, but talking about this can start a new civil war :D.

What I love about this drama is that either, he says insights that a lot of people thought, or he just clarifies what was there for anyone to know if interested. A guy with a lot of money moving the pawns as he sees fits, and people with a lot of money but not enough for them acting like leeches. I don't think anything will happen with this, he still controls most of the media and his serfs are hiding behind the silence until the storm passes.
