Films in which Aliens war with the earth but always end up losing...

Signs.

Aliens, that are allergic to water, try to take over a planet that's 70% water.

the alien invasion isn't the main point of the film, it is a mere catalyst
I'd say there is more religion in it(the film) than science fiction

people keep pointing out the water thing and overlook the rest. Fair enough, the film wasn't about a clever and full of effects alien invasion, lots of people felt cheated by that,I understand.. though this is not a good enough reason to dismiss the film entirely, it's just a knee-jerk reaction.

the water thing itself...well, it probably isn't the greatest sci-fi idea ever but there are couple of things to it: maybe the aliens didn't know they're allergic to water?
and besides it was indicated that they're just checking out the situation, there wasn't an invasion going on at all.

It reminds me a bit of war of the worlds and the virus/bacteria thing where people were screaming why oh why the aliens didn't thought it through before invading us.

Whoa there. Not an M. Night Shaymalan fanboi are you? It wasn't a general critique of the entire film, you wouldn't want me to do that.

just saying like

oh and kindly feck off with your fanboy remark you utter danny boyle loving git

Just watched The Day the Earth Stood Still and it was absolutely abysmal.

If there's anyone here contemplating seeing it stay away. Overblown special effects trying to compensate for a horrendous plot.
