Fifa World Cup 2014 Draw

People said all this about low expectations being good at Euro 2012 and still moaned when we lost in the quarter finals, on penalties no less. After topping our group. This will be no different, low expectations can and never will exist with England, those who shout loudest about them being so awful often being the most critical at any failure.

It's true. I always have a little smile when I hear a pundit saying "I think we'll do well because there are no expectations of success". Only in the world of ex-professional footballers can that logic hold.

What's good about it? A country like England should be competing in the final stages.

When was the last time England actually performed well over a sustained period of games or at a tournament?

I don't think there is any other team in the world that's so poor collectively as a team compared to their individual talent.

ahh damn.. did not save my selections

Argentina won their group...think I had Spain winning the group too.

I think in that case they will meet in the semi-finals..

Argentina could very well play Portugal in the quarter-finals, Spain in the semi-final, and Brazil in the final! (if they're to make it to the final of course).. All mouth watering encounters.

think you are right. right had Argentina beating Germany in the final then.

I don't see Brazil getting past the semis at best.

Probably, I was just picking the interesting encounters for Argentina (Messi vs Ronaldo?, Messi vs Barcelona? Argentina vs Brazil?)..

But imo Brazil has a bigger chance reaching the final than Argentina.

I was at first amazed France got a so easy group but I will probably be annoyed by how much the french media will hype the other teams, making them so scary for poor little France that shouldn't be overconfident because Swiss is the lead of the group (probably for a good and scary reason - don't ever think it was because of the recent form), Ecuador and Honduras are after all used to the heat (and probably lot of other lame "explanations", the best one I read so far is Honduras' championship isn't aired in France, so the french don't have a clue how the Honduras players play, oh the scary unknown).

At least there will be good matches, I am quite satisfied the teams I will follow have difficult groups, so I am more likely to be interested by their group matches. Spain-Netherlands, Germany-Portugal, England-Italy... and moreoever they aren't last day matches, so they will be meaningful.

the incredible expectation on Brazil to win it will crush them.

Not sure if anything has changed for Argentina since 2010 - their team is still imbalanced and lacking cohesion IMO.

I think Spain are on their last legs and won't get further than the quarters at best IMO.

Brazil and Germany have got to be the big favourites, and I fancy a smaller South American team, Columbia, Chile or Uruguay, to atleast make the quarters and possibly the semis.

After going through that simulator, I ended up with this:

1. Brazil
2. Argentina
3. Germany
4. Japan(wishful thinking, seeing as they had to beat Spain and Italy to get there:lol:)

5-8: Spain, Portugal, Columbia, Bosnia

9-16: Italy, France, Croatia, Swiss, Belgium, Netherlands, Uruguay, S.Korea.

I ended up with:
1. Argentina
2. Germany
3. Brazil
4. Italy
5-8: Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, Bosnia
Don't remember the rest.. I think I had Japan play Italy in the round of 16 which can go either way though. Spain I think will get knocked out by Brazil after finishing behind Netherlands. They aren't as good as they were in 2012. Bosnia getting to quarters is a long shot but if we get through, and France finish second in their group then we should be able to get past the other teams in that group. That's as far as I could even imagine we'll go in our wildest dreams though, probably Germany in the round after that  No chance.

If anyone has beINSport do watch the most recent Locker Room show (Friday, WC draw special). Some African correspondent/pundit was on and he was fecking mental.

Here's my prediction....

Would not be surprised to see them not qualify to be honest. Easy group on paper, but you've got two South American sides in Ecuador and Honduras who will give them a tough game.

Zidane said something along the lines of he would've preferred a tougher group for them. And I think he is right.

Erm sorry mate but Honduras is in central America not south.

I worked out a Brazil vs Argentina final.

England incidentally made it through to the quarters, beating Japan narrowly in the second round, but then going out to the hosts.

Is anyone else going to the World Cup/ just be in Rio during it?

Do they even have the personnel in CM or at the back though? Can't think of any standout performers in those positions for them off the top of my head.

Gago has been very competent for them during qualifiers in the CM position, Mascherano is also there more as a DM (which is his natural strong suit), Zabaleta does okay on RB but the LB and and esp. GK are kinda shaky. CB pairing is decent, but entire backline is quite error prone IMO.

Not a bad draw for England. Italy arent that good these days. Uruguay are decent but they relied too much on Suarez.

Fat chance an European team to win it. It is in South America, peeps. Brazil or Argentina for me, definitely.

It's a sign that the well has run dry of the convoluted excuses England reach for to explain their apparent failure every second year.

They're still better than England are.

England's World Cup chances have been dealt another blow after FIFA brought forward the kick-off time for their game in Manaus against Italy by three hours.
The game was scheduled to take place on June 14 at 2100 local time (2am UK time), but has now been moved to 1800 (11pm), when it will be warmer.

I have Spain finishing second in their group and beating Brazil in second round......Argentinas run to the final being fairly easy, though not really, it's a world cup after all. Germany/Spain semi's i think vs Argentina final.

I thought Spain and Brazil couldn't meet 'til the final?

Great mascot. France 98 was a great video game, and it was the star. Along with the music.

1994... dags! Oh dogs! Surprised we didn't have an image of guns, apple pie, and muscle cars. Perhaps FIFA didn't approve.

Here's a lineup of mascots. Pique is such a stereotypical mascot, lol.

I believe 1994 didnt happen because
a) I was too young to remember and
b) England weren't invited.
