Gaming FIFA 23

It's just mental to me that the best football career mode was made 17 years ago.
I don’t remember the nuances of 2005 v 2006, and I didn’t get 04. Why was 05 the best of those?

we didn’t have a PlayStation for a few years so now I think of it I had 01, 03, and 05 on PC (I got it every second year). 06 was the first I got on PS2. Bought every one until 09, then none until I got fifa 21.

Also had PES 3 and I think 4 on PS2. Great games.

What would be cool is if managers switched clubs in career mode too.

Nothing better for immersion that stupid transfers and managers never getting sacked.

Of course they’d probably feck that up too and you’d have Pep leaving City for Leverkusen or something.

PES 5/6 Master League

You all whine but still buy this shit product

Yeah because the basic mode is enough for me to play with mates over a year period. It’s worth it for that but doesn’t mean you can’t want more from it.

I've been playing FIFA for the first time in over decade. It's a decent game. What's people's beef? That said those tactics and formations are bloody pointless. I've tried everything to beat Bayern with United but no matter how I tweak United...an average player playing with Bayern will always win.

A lot of modes and issues are neglected in favour of Ultimate Team. They've had the same clunky UI for about 5 years now and career mode is buggy as hell and takes you out of the realism when Harry Kane moves to Everton for 104m or some bollocks. There's no real way to have a proper youth team (can only select from a range of players 'found' and then they just sit in a list until you add them to your squad), managers never move clubs, you get stupid objectives to fulfill, etc... but every year they ignore things and add cosmetic new features nobody wants with buzzword names like 'Active Movement' which barely does anything different. They think adding more cutscenes to career mode will make it more engrossing, rather than, you know making it feel like a genuine career mode by fixing the underlying issues.

Then there's all the exploits when you play online. Pace is always overpowered, headers are useless so people in the game basically never cross in the air. There's just so many things left broken from game to game.

Haven't bough Fifa since 2019. Won't buy it now. Don't have time to play wi5h mates on the couch (fecking children) and online is cack.

Maybe if they made an interesting career mode, but meh, lootboxes are more lucrative

Okay then Sol. How would you beat Bayern with United? For me it's just a bit of a laugh with mates and all that jazz. I've not even bothered with owt else.

That is mainly what I use it for because of how shit the rest is, but I would love an in-depth career mode.

I'd beat Bayern with United by being better than the other player :)

Indeed the rest is shite. Will gameplay be improved in the next edition?

Yeah but better when your defence is shite and Bayern's attack is so potent?!

Likely not enough to be noticeable. Perhaps next year when their official partnership with FIFA ends.

Not happening. They will be busier than usual for the next release. This time they will not only need to update theme colours but to remove all references to FIFA as well. They will never risk improving the gameplay to look anything close to football because it's just not worth it. People seem to love the arcady super fast ping pong type of gameplay, it's FIFA's success formula and has been for decades.

Is there a credible rival for the FIFA franchise yet?

If not then you can hardly blame them for making minimal effort as there is zero pressure to do so.

The real problem is the fact other developers can’t or won’t offer some genuine competition

Haven’t bought a fifa game since 2017 unless you count playing a bit via the EA pass.

Don’t know how people allow themselves to be mugged off every year by the likes of Fifa and cod.

Even just loading a fifa game up and EA are already mocking you with the 2fps menus.
Agreed - Game Pass the only reason I've played. The menus are a joke. Same with all EA games.

Downloaded the BETA last night. Opened up a career mode with United and by mid-July I'd sold AWB and Bailly to Chelsea for £70m and £21m. So glad they've fixed the transfers not being realistic.

So... Is anybody getting it? I didn't play much for the last few years, but this is going to be cross platform so finally I will be able to connect with some of my mates, therefore I'm getting it on Sept 30th and weekend is already booked.
Would be nice if there are some players from the Caf.

Havent paid for Fifa for about 5 years, downloaded it earlier this year through GamePass. It's good fun but not sure I will pay a penny towards this, happy to wait until it's "free" again

Interesting read, though not particularly surprised.

I thought PES was dealing with much the same issue and was deceived into thinking their 3 year plan was a solid rebuild project rather than this stupid mobile free cross play move.

If EA are indeed going to revamp I sure hope it's not like that

I quite like the new positions changes feature and the new chemistry changes. Think will make for some fun squads.

Getting the itch to actually play again. Hype will die off by November but the first few weeks are actually the best part of the game cycle, love building up from the starter squad.

Pretty much. It's the overpowered cards that kill the gameplay. It's pretty fun in the beginning when most teams are equal and there's just a few overpowered cards.

Feel like they need to find a happy medium because without promo's the game feels dead but too many and you're left with every card felling the same. Personally don't mind the promo every week but would hope they add even more incentives to play the game this year, saying that if the game play is shite then it won't really matter.

Cod isn't like Fifa. It's different studios making very different games, which is how they're able to pump one out every year. Some of them (all except Infinity Ward's in my opinion) still need more work and aren't that great though. I got my money back on Black Ops after finding it to be total shit. But Modern Warfare is excellent, as is Warzone. Warzone has been a mess at times but is great with mates. The issues with it came from them not being prepared for its popularity (lockdowns helped with that) and having to keep building on top as time went on.

Same business model as EA with Fifa. Pump out a reskin every other year
That's not what it is though. It's completely different games each year, with a different engine, made by different studios. I'm not defending it, because they are mostly shit aside from MW, but they're not just reskins like Fifa. I didn't play any for years until lockdowns so can't comment on the quality of those after the original MW2, but some of them looked awful too.

If all their creative talent is going on skins and Battle Passes, they need to hire better creatives because most of the stuff is garbage and uninteresting, which is surprising as they would no doubt make even more money more of it was actually appealing.
Warzone is a travesty really, most people on console never played the earlier pc BRs like H1Z1 so have no idea how much of a step backwards it is.
It's doesn't really matter. It's a lot of fun with mates, and especially was in the first year. It's a lot better than Fifa is, where people just spam exploits and p2w on UT. There's no p2w on Cod and if you want aesthetics, you can buy a Battle Pass once and you'll get enough points from it to unlock every one after it, so long as you play enough obviously. Some of my mates haven't spent a bean on it and have played it for years now.

I play online seasons only.

Fifa 21 was ridiculously about through balls and any forward with pace that could get in behind.

Mbappe was cheating. A blind ball up the channels and he was through and finishing was quite easy. Even Dan James was an absolute beast.

I didn't play 22 but I really hope they improve this. Team splitting through balls are pretty rare and only a few players can do it consistently.

Not played Fifa since FIFA 16. Not had a console or time to game too much but I always watch some play throughs on career mode, used to love clubs.

I watch the player reveals at clubs they do with the giant cards, one recently with Antonio complaining at 83 physicality saying "who is stronger than me though?" many of the players who play the game don't understand still that the FUT ratings stats comprise of multiple factors. Physicality isn't just strength but also aggression, stamina and jumping.
Lingard on his unveil wasn't happy at his 65 physicality saying "you know what I've been in the gym as well bro" maybe hop around like a frog in games and be aggressive if the number bothers him that much.

Unsure why players who play still don't realise that when they do their reactions. I understand on the pace front when its acceleration and sprint speed when they're annoyed though.

Might get FIFA in a few years time, maybe by FIFA 26 and I can see the differences between FIFA 16 and 26. So far since 7 years ago the game doesn't look much different.

All marketing terms like the pitch again this year has been around since FIFA 15, I guess there's not a great deal they can improve on each year.

I remember FIFA 15 coming and they said they it'll have "real player intelligence" in the Xbox One and PS4 era, still decades away from that though.

The games been the same since FIFA 09 really (I think this is when FUT came not entirely sure), just pace merchants that run as quick as they can. Or some new mechanic that gets hot patched in December. Then the FOMO pack sprees people try to go on to get a decent player in TOTS/TOTY

Nope, still the same in Fifa 22. A simple through ball to Mbappe and he will score.

And matching up against PSG in every online game is just excruciating.

Think he's right about the code, it seems pretty obvious, it's the same problem with Madden and why you see the same "systems" repackaged and rebranded every few years. However he really downplays the actual problem, FUT and money making live services incentivises milking a stale product and patching shit together which is then further incentivised because it's a monopoly that reports to shareholders. Fifa as a license is not the main problem and "breaking free" of the license is not going to cause the game devs to take a 2-3 year hiatus to completely re-code a game. Especially if FUT still has to produce the revenue to justify the devs existence.

It's pretty ridiculous and also the reason why CBs speed is the only parameter you should be concerned with, and you will see plenty opponents playing Walker in the center of defence.

Like that the web app comes tomorrow, gives us a few days before full release to try and grind a decent starter team. Sucks that the pre-season rewards we earned in 22 won't probably be dispatched until next month the extra 50k pack and 1k match bonus etc would have been a huge boost.

Serie A looks class for a decent start up squad, think Mckennie will be a really good pick up and should be relatively cheap.
