I'm not sure there's much interest in this, but the FIBA World Championships start this weekend. The USA sent a second tier team, but hopefully Coach K can bring home the title. In the warm-up games, we've done all right.

Any of you guys see the Serbia-Greece fight from last week?

I hope the US rapes everyone one else as per usual.

Yeah, but we have a very good coach now. :D

The US shouldn't really lose in basketball. As a country, we have far too much talent for that. Normally though, NBA players rest during the summer and don't want to go to the WC.

You are aware US hasn't won this since 1994?

Since then it's been...

1998-Yugoslavia
2002-Yugoslavia
2006-Spain

In fact it hasn't made a final since then...got 3rd in 2002 by beating Argentina.

Yes, but we usually rape some people during the tournament, hopefully Kobe shows up.

No we shouldn't, BUT this is no longer the 80s, where college kids could beat a bunch of white guys from europe with 'no ups'. The best of those nations are good enough to beat all-star calibre teams now, but not a fully loaded and balanced US team.

I expect the US to do well in this tournament, but like the exhibition match with Spain showed a couple of nights ago...it will be close.

US won that 86-85, with Durant blocking a last second shot.

The gap has closed some but a lot of it is that NBA players play a different sytle now hat is even more at odds with he international style of play, court, and rules.

I think with Coach K and Colangelo in charge USA basketball has become a much bigger deal than it used to be. Now high school kids really want to play for the USA teams and win. It's something it definitely didn't have before Coach Krzyzewski took over. None of these kids are old enough to remember the Dream Team, but they want to be like that when they are on Team USA. Long term, I think it will be a huge plus for the national team.

USA 106
Croatia 78

It took the US a while to get rolling, but the scoreline was generous.

USA 99
Slovenia 77

Another easy win, but the game against Brazil should be more interesting.

we got dominated by France today, they were simply...taller!!! hahah as stupid as that sounds the amount of offensive rebounds they got was ridiculous, but in the ned we lost to a better team...ah well we need a win from our next 3 matches to qualify which would be an achievement for us! NZ, Spain (no chance) and Lithuania left for us!

The international game is weird because they don't really believe in offensive rebounds if they're up against an equal team.

I'll be cheering for Lithuania since I've met one of their national team players and graduated with him. Plus I'm an expert Lithuanian folk dancer.

i think our best chance is against NZ TBH! i hope we win a match as it will be a massive boost for the sport and the people in Lebanon. its also the only sport we're decent at...the whole country is watching!

USA 70
Brazil 68

We really tried to give that one away. Under 2 minutes we had a 4 point lead and Derrick Rose drives and spins into the lane. Of course he turns the ball over. So many stupid plays in the last 4 minutes of the game. Honestly, Coach K should have taken the Select team to finish games because I know the college players wouldn't be so stupid at the end of the game.

USA vs Iran today. It should be a blowout. Hopefully we win handily.

We just beat Argentina now, 84:82. Very good game from both. We finished top of our group and are playing the losers of the Brazil-Croatia game.

Hot heads, nothing special, happens all the time ;)

Of course it is...in the Balkans.

The fact it was against our brother nation in Greece made this embarrassing..but I am proud of our team for defending each other, our player was being stomped on the groudn that is why Krstic (guy who threw the chair) went apeshit. You guys may see this as 'Balkan animals' but really I would do the same thing if my team mate was in trouble.

Anyway, we just beat Argentina earlier on, we may play Croatia on Saturday, which will be fiery..

If we had taken the Ron Artest Interactive Fan Experience, things could have been fun.

I don't really think he was implying anything like that, tbf.

I was doing all these calculations and permutations, only to realise, quite late, on losers were getting rewarded with a point a piece...hahahahahah

So China which has not won a single match, has 5 points.

btw. Used to love watching the Serbs and Croats go at each other in Canberra/Sydney...Serbian Pride/Croatian Pride, over complete bullshit most of the time.

Good times though.

They just embarrass the Serbs in Serbia. The whole Australian Open incident for example..

Hard core diaspora nationalists blow. I remember seeing some pics from a friend on Facebook, some ultra tough Serbs from Chicago with tattoos, and their names were Mike, John, Steve and Sam. Awesome. It's like me being fanatic about the people of Star Trek's planet Romulus.

I don't like them either mate, despite being a Diaspora Serb myself.. Those Serbs you speak of *for the most part, don't contribute anything to the Serbian communities and are always the 'Big Serb' when it comes to something we do in Sports/fighting/some event etc. I am sure you know exactly what I mean.. the worst are the fairweather fans who 'support' Zvezda or Partizan, that think they are some big navijac but don't know more than the standard 'DAJ GOL, DAJ GOL' or 'SVI U NAPAD, AJMO, AJDE!'.

I went to Chicago earlier in the year and I saw first hand the type you are referring to. I couldn't help but laugh at some of them.

That said, there are some proper passionate Diaspora Serbs who are proud of their roots and don't carry on like the aforementioned type.

Miha, this is for you..

 This is great!!

Hey btw did you see the Greeks, intentionally losing their game agaist Russia to avoid playing Spain and now they still have to play them because the Kiwis beat France! Hilarious. Shame on the Greeks though, such pussies!

Thanks.

Yeh, Karma's a bitch eh.. I hope we play the Greeks though, and from a basketball point of view they are real picke.. but a game against them would be fiery stuff for sure given the recent incidents. :)

But first... the neighbours :)

Cruised past Angola and will face Russia on Wednesday.

Turkey v Slovenia
Serbia v Spain
China v Lithuania

Are the others.

TEODOSIC YOU feckING LEGEND!!!!!!

What a shot. I'm so proud of our players. This game has established itself as one of our most classic games.

Incredible.

Kako smo ih oderali majku im poganu sugavu! Dobili su po picki od najmladje ekipe turnira!

We'll need to play well, and I don't expect Coach K to hold much back. Of the "favorites" in the tournament, I think it's only Turkey and the USA left since Spain and Greece both lost.

You just wait ;)
