Doubt it as Carroll speaks the language and has developed an understand with our back 4. Carini´s gonna need a couple of weeks.

Nowadays you need 2-3 decent goalkeepers in a squad. In the past keepers didnt seem to get injured as much and a reserve keeper could go seasons without getting even on the bench especially with the 2 subs rule.
Fab does get injured a lot and although it would be tough on Carrol another keeper would be handy.

have to agree. what we wouldnt want in a goalkeeper is the situation the sheepers have with their gooday cobblers aussies drifting out for a month at a time or kanu at arse is also a well known one. a keeper should be as constant as possible. only worry here about carini, he looks a good keeper. has anyone else seen the reports of why supposedly arse wouldnt have him / link as below:
<a href="http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,777544,00.html" target="_blank">http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,777544,00.html</a>
but what is barthez on (apart from PCP, that is... )

He is better than that. As a Uruguayan, I was disappointed with his performance. Not that he didn't do well, just that I'm used to him being MOM and playing a blinder.
If you asked me before the WC, I would have sworn we would draw or beat France as I had 100% confidence he would keep them at bay. It was Denmark that worried me.
On going halfway around the World, there's something called "FIFA dates", i.e. dates set for int'l activity in which most leagues stop, that's when he has to travel. People keep using that argument based on African/Oz/Trinidad&Tobago players, they belong to screwed up confederations who don't plan along with these dates. It very rarely interferes (the Americas Cup is in June/July not Feb/March!).

How about frendlies and qualifiers?
Aside from the few days they're gone and the matches they might miss, its the adjustment the body has to go through with the time change, back and forth.
What do you think?
However, if he is really as good as you suggest, I'd think we'd live with the inconvienience.

The jet lag is an issue, granted. Friendlies and qualifiers are usually set on the same dates as European Championship/WC qualifiers so that is not really an issue. It only creates trouble in the odd cases in which there are cup games or postponed games set too close to the FIFA dates. The time it takes to go and come back plus jetlag could occasionally account for a match being missed but it is not the Kanu scenario where he disappears in Feb/March, at a crucial time in the race for the title because he is stuck with his confederation's championship.
On being as good as I say, let's put it simple, he is to Uruguay what Kahn is to Germany. A keeper capable of taking an average team to the WC through clean sheets. He held Brazil to 1 goal (a non-existent penalty) over 180 minutes of continuous pressure. And that while having no activity whatsoever at Juventus (bench-warming, reserves).
I have followed him since he was in the Youth Teams at 15. He played in the U-19 WC twice (i.e. he was already definite first choice there being 15!). During that time he faced the young Henry, Trezeguet, Saviola, Riquelme and Aimar, the last three on a regular basis and kept holding them off.
He is fecking class.

I did hear he went back to Uruguay to rest up a bit after the "drama" of the previous events...

This is the guy who's playing football again because the world didn't actually end last year. He also said he dislikes football and actually wanted to be a fighter pilot. I would love it, just love it if Wenger signed him cos we took Carini.

They are. Far worse. Thing is, the british press rarely prints unfounded rumours regarding top players. You don't see stuff about Ruud, Becks, Owen, Henry, etc moving to other clubs regularly.
In Italy they write about everyone, daily, without any foundation really.

They've got dedicated sports papers haven't they? I suppose to do that you need to manufacture lots of stories.
