no, but i feel very confident about this ;)

He hadn´t agreed personal terms and yet had to sign a contract.

Top signing if it´s true. Carini will replace Barthez.

I just read the Carini thread...

It'll certainly hot things up, Roy Caroll, by all accounts, has been doing well, so if Carini does come, the pressure will be on, to excel, with all three of 'em.

Can only be a positive imo.

However, I cannot believe that a club like Arsenal don´t notice the player hasn´t even signed a bloody contract. Arsenal are not run by a bunch of farmers, are they?

Wouldn´t be surprised if our interest is the reason the deal was called off.

It´s a one year loan, btw.

From Arsenal.com

Fabian Carini may not be joining Arsenal after all.

The Uruguay keeper was expected to spend the season at Highbury on loan from Italian giants Juventus but personal terms have not been finalised.

“He has not yet been registered because he has not yet signed his contract," said Wenger. “We were under the impression that personal terms had been agreed but that has turned out not to be the case.

“We will know in the next 48 hours if the matter will be resolved. But I have to say I am not optimistic and if he returns to Juventus then I have a problem.”

However, the club is confident of signing another keeper before the end of the month.

Fabian Carini will not be joining Arsenal Football Club.

The deal to bring the Uruguay goalkeeper to Highbury on a season's loan from Juventus has fallen through.

"It's over," said Arsene Wenger. "We will look for somebody else and I will make a decision before the West Ham game next week.

"We have few players in mind but I don't want to speak about names because it is too early."

He´s a top class keeper and still very young. He will replace Barthez as he´s the better keeper.

A loan deal will be good. That will leave us with more money to buy Escude.

Kinda reminds me of a sentence I heard yesterday which was used 9 years ago and may have been used recently.

"You’ve signed nothing. Come over for a chat".

Any guesses where it came from? ;)

They said it on "The Premiership" last night, must be true ;)

Realistically though, I wouldn't jump on the 'replacing Barthez' just yet. Surely if Fergie wanted Fab out he'd take care of it previously, not wait until he's injured to get a keeper.

I think Carroll is adequate for now, what's the likelyhood of him getting injured too... ;)

I don't think Fergie wants to sell Barthez but he has no choice to look for replacement if Barthez misses more and more games due to injuries. He said it, right?

All too true Lion. With Barthez out for a few more weeks and even then he'll be back with little pre season behind him, we do need another man.

I think we may well see three in the mix eventually this season with the weakest link off, even thought if Carini arrives, which is still in IF stage, it has to be remembered it's looking like a loan.

Current update from Planetfootball is that Juve wants Scholes or Silvestre to be included in the swap deal. No way man.

Scholes OR Silvestre??? What the hell are they thinking of? Silvestre and Scholes are in two different worlds when it comes to prices...

I think Planetfootball's article is utter nonsence. This can only be a loan deal which means no one will be going to Juve.

It was meant as a loan deal where Arsenal was concerned, but will it be the same with United or cud it be an outright transfer? ( supposing there are negotiations )

But it is only logical that United seek a 3rd experienced keeper, especially with Barthez out injured, & with the potential number of games United might play - we don't want another 'Goram' situation, do we?

We should tell Juve to give us Carini and £15m, and they can have Veron
I would take that deal actually!

Really? Meaning you feel Carini is worth 13 mil pounds or thereabouts?

BTW, anyone know whether Carini is no.2 or no.3 keeper in Juve?

From the statistics I've gathered he played in one league match and two champions league (Arsenal and I think the other was Celtic away)... Not sure whether he's second or third but I think he was second last season.

Juve have also signed a new goalkeeper this summer, probably with the knowledge they won't keep Carini as second choice at the club for another season.

Well, MEN quotes Fergie saying Barthez could be fit for our next European match.

Also, according to MEN, there has been no contact with Juventus over Carini.

from fergie

"We will have to get a new keeper soon because we only have two kids (Ben Williams and Luke Steele) to cover for Barthez and we will be looking for another defender. The big problem is 'who do you go and buy to keep the strength of the squad up?"

Depends on form, a straight competition for the first team spot.

I don't know much about Carini, but you're probably right..

Will Bobo go then, leaving Carroll as back up?

Yep, but those quotes are from 2-3 days ago. I assume the evening news one is from today, or certainly more later than that one.

Oh well, everything will get clearer and clearer in the next 10 days.

As for Carini being better than Barthez, don't hurry up so much... Tremendous talent yes, already better than what we've got? hmm...

They're making it up as the go-along, as usual.

not sure about fab leaving because we will be back to square 1 with no cover and who can afford his wages?

If you have a reliable and not injury prone keeper then its ok to have him, a competent backup (Roy Carroll) and then kids. Its the same with the other top EPL clubs.

Do you reckon he'll come straight into the team for Carroll if he does sign?
