Fergie fxxk up the formation on day one

The tactics arent that important to me..
my point is that its not surprise that we scored from a mixture of scholes/ole who had just been brought on..
i still believe scholes gives us more attacking wise than veron (but thats another debate)

When was the last time a team won the english top division without regularly using the 4-4-2 formation? 4-4-2 won us lots of trophies while 4-5-1 didn't win us any last season. Arsenal won the league with 4-4-2, and Real the CL with 4-4-2. Nothing wrong with 4-4-2 if you play it right, which we used to. It needs good wingers, lots of movement, a tough DM and a creative CM, full backs capable of joining in with the play, and a creative forward.

1. 4-5-1 over crowded our midfield with 3 in midfield Keane and Veron have more space and freedom to express themselves. With the added bonus of Butt and Keane protecting our defence from attacks. In addition Keano gets forward more. On a good day he could have had a hattrick against West Brom.
2. Lets be honest Giggs and Becks where not in any good from. Neither was Ruud for that matter. If Becks and Giggs have the form the will do alot of damage and score alot of goals just behind Rudd.
3. With Three forwards Ruud had support from Keano who was excellent, Becks and Giggs who where wastefull. In short he was not one isolated target man like last season. that is a god sign isn't it.
4. The system never changed toi 4-4-2. when we Scored the goal. Scholes was where Veron had been, Ole was on the left and Becks was on the other side just behind Rudd who was in the middle.
The only change that came about was that to 2 defenders.

Conclusion:

1. 4-3-3 is the way to go. More space for our creative midfielders. More support for the center forward. That way Giggs will never be wasted in the whole becasue he is a wide free roaming forward in a 4-3-3.
2. The team should learn to think like Veron. They wasted many of his good passes by not making the right runs or Utilising them properly. Best example Silvetre. Had he utilised veron's last pass of the match it would have resulted in a goal.
3. 4-4-2 is bulshit. When we play it we are too predictable hence we are comprehensively beaten. AND it prevents us from using Butt. Plus most of our defeasdt last season had that dreaded formation. SOI GET OVER !!!!!

Thus says the chief

I spose its something to do with the fact that OGS is better when he comes off the bench..

A fact further proven on Sat..

;)

Indeed.

Most of you have got it spot on....its not necessarily the formation that matters, its the movement of the players.

RVN has got to be mobile as a single striker. On saturday, Ole came on and was all over. He even had time to control the ball on his chest at times and shoot...THATS because he made space for himself.

RVN needs to drift in at times...Giggsy and becks need to run into the space he creates by pulling defenders.

I liked the fact that Roy was played deeper than Veron and Butt because he tends to runs into spaces...he was on the right wing, he was running into the box. Pity he cant shoot...

We need a 'in your face' striker. Kenyon cough up some dough...Success and large squads are linked to financial statements BUDDY.

Every formation has it's own advantages and disadvantages, so we may not say which one is better than the other in general. However 4-5-1 is much more unfamilar to our players and need a lot of changes/adjustment to our team. In order to adjust to this formation, we need to play Keano and giggs out of position. Our players need to adjust themselves and some in-form players (such as Ole) are benched because of it. The point is: There is no good reason why we need a 4-5-1 in this particular game against WBA at home. There are too many scrafices and those scrafices are unnecessary or even will have an negative effect.

I am starting to worry that the reason Fergie choose this formation is just because he want to find a place to accomodate Juan Veron. If it is really the truth I afraid he has made the biggest error that is costing us dearly.
