Funny how you only pick up on the stats that support your notion of him, and ignore those that support both mine and the Everton fans view on his defensive effectiveness.

Besides Fellaini's best form for Everton this season came when they signed Gibson to do all the hard work in midfield so Fellaini could have a free role further up the pitch. Yes, that Darron Gibson. Another potential transfer target?

I think his more eye catching form would be fairer. He catches the eye much more when played higher up, but that doesn't mean to say he is not effective further back.

The Fletcher comparison is absurd. You're comparing a homegrown player who cost nothing with someone who would cost an absolute fortune. Fletcher is also a better passer of the ball, works harder and is much more defensively disciplined. Of course, he may also never play football again. If we are looking to replace him we could do a lot better than Fellaini, that's for sure.

No im not, im simply comparing 2 similar types of players who are both better in terms of their energy, determination and commitment, than they are technically, and stating how i feel they would perform similar roles for us. Fletcher may be a better passer and work harder in your opinion, but that does not make it irrefutable, and i personally don't agree with it.

I have always felt Fletcher was defensively naive, and when played as the most defensive player, we look far more vulnerable than when Carrick plays. He simply does not protect the defence effectively, despite his obvious effort.
 
I'm surprised we aren't even linked with him. I think he'd be a good signing, still young too.

Im not that surprised tbh. Even though i like him a lot, Everton paid about £17m for him a few years ago, so i cannot see them selling him for only a couple of mil profit.

I think Everton would be looking for about £25m, which is possibly a bit too much.

I said it a couple of years ago that Fellaini would find it very hard to move away from Everton due to his initial price. I am still a bit lost to the idea of them paying £16m for an unproven Belgian player from Standard in the first place, especially as Witsel and Defour went for fraction of a price and they were both rated higher at the time of their respective transfers. He hasn't failed at Everton so they won't take a loss, he hasn't set the world alight either so they won't be making much of a profit on top of that £17m. Lose-lose situation.
 
Why would it be too much? We were fine splashing out over 30m for a luxury player like Hazard but in a position most think we need to improve on 25m is too much? He'd have at least 8 or 9 more years in him too.
 
25m could get you a much better potential CM prospect than Fellaini whereas 30m for Hazard is getting you one of the the most promising attackers out there.

Depends what you are speaking about in terms of 'not setting the world alight'. If you mean like someone like Hazard it's probably because most people are more interested in players who play like Hazard rather than Fellaini even though Fellaini is as vital to us as Hazard was to Lille.

He wasn't unproven either, won the Ebony shoe in Belgium and the league title the year before he came to us so there was obviously thorough scouting involved and Moyes saw that he would live up to that potential in the league. Kompany and Lukaku are also winners of the Ebony shoe so it shows it's not a pointless award in anyway.

Then when he came to us he was our Young player of the year and top goalscorer ( :lol: i know) in his debut season. Not replicated that again because of the role he has undertaken (dropping deeper) but we have seen him in the last few months regain that part of his game.

If anything, it's a win-win situation for us. If we don't make a profit we will keep him as he signed a 5 year contract in 2011. He's one of our best players and i wouldn't expect the club to let him go for a loss.

By setting the world alight I mean making enough contribution to warrant a £25m+ price tag. He's been very solid for you I agree and has been good both defensively and offensively the whole time, trouble is you need to be a special player to cost that much - and I feel that Fellaini is just good, not special.

He's very good just not £25m+ good.

84 out of 99, with a 85% successful tackle rate. He's probably the best defensive midfielder in the league. Defense is as much a part of the game as attack is and like i said earlier, he is a special player, just in a different area than all the players which are always at the top of the price lists, when was the last time a defensive orientated player left for a big fee? I can only remember Ferdinand to you who was around the £25 - 35 million price range.

You might say "oh well that is at Everton though, not a top club." Okay, well we have finished consistently in the top 8 in the time that he has been here and you can only perform to the best of your abilities and to be the best at the club you are at. He has been the best here in that aspect and is proven in the League so could play for a club at a higher level definitely.

I can't really see that myself.

If we can get him for a decent fee, I'm all in for getting him.

Size and power in the middle of the park is what we need.
 
He cost Everton £15 million, can't see them taking a loss on him.

MAROUANE Fellaini has opened the door to a Chelsea move after he admitted that he wants to play at European level.
The Everton midfielder who signed a new long-term contract in November has admitted that the lure of continental competition is strong and that he has always dreamed of playing in the Champions League.

A move to Chelsea would allow Fellaini to play at a higher level taking on the giants of Europe, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.

I'm surprised that we haven't been linked with him more. I also think this would be a perfect move for us as he is the type of player we seem to be currently lacking.
 
I have said for two seasons we needed him. Not to kick a loyal player when he's down, but he's twice the player Fletcher is in the DM position. He'd also let Carrick push up more which is where Carrick shown two seasons ago.
 
Still can't understand why we're not looking at the big man. Would solve so many of our issues, is rarely injured, in his peak and wouldn't cost a fortune.

He's not marquee, but he would improve the team today, and that really should be what we're trying to do accomplish.
 
He'd be awesome in our midfield. Wouldn't cost the earth either and is still young.

Didnt Everton pay 15mil for him. He also recently signed a new contract.

That said he would improve us.

Sure you've been watching the same player in the last couple of seasons?
 
Why is Witsel an improved version? Fellaini is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the league. None of this Song bollocks, as he is nowhere near Fellaini in defensive ability.

Plus Fellaini is proven in the league so isn't a gamble either, at his peak so wouldn't need to be nurtured into the side, but the best thing is that he can still improve if he does move to a top clubb/is involved in European Competitions more often.

EDIT: For a stats breakdown in 4 seasons he has started 127 games and been a sub 10 times. He has scored 20 goals over the course of his time here. Last season he managed to score 5 goals and assist 7. For the type of player that he is that's a great return.
From what i can find of Witsel he managed 5 goals and 6 assists.

3. Witsel has more potential and is just a better player.. No stats to back it up just watch him. If he's such a good defensive midfielder why is he the most advance of a midfield 3 pairing of him, Witsel and Dembelle?

2: Right, so now your argument's even more bollocks. Obviously a player that's not played in the league may not suit the style. How do you know Witsel will?
