Fellaini | Gone

he had a few good moments over the years but will be glad to see his style of play away from OT for good.

I'll turn it around and say that anyone who thinks such a limited player putting in some effort is good enough for United, is rather simple minded.

Throwing such flimsy insults at people who don't share your opinion is easy, isn't it?

Call it an insult if you like but it's merely a view on a perspective one i think you've misconstrued or misunderstood.

Good enough for united is your added argument not mine. I respect all our players as people unless they do something to deserve my ire and being played isn't that. Cheering the departure of a player when it's so inconsequential means the celebration isn't coming from a benefit it's coming from what? Schadenfreude? Self validation?

Same shit was in the Mata thread.

Hard to sell for a profit when their performances haven't been great, they're barely playing and are on higher wages than they would be at other clubs. To pretty much break even on Schneiderlin worked out great for us when you see what he's done since. Been so bad that they'd almost struggle to give him away - especially with the wages he's on.

As for Memphis, the price was a bit lower because we agreed buy-back and sell-on clauses with Lyon. With how he's played for Lyon, when he's sold we'll probably have made a profit overall.

True, and I'm looking forward to see what a future Memphis transfer will bring us. It's nowhere near the type of business that really helps a club forward though, or what you expect from a business savy guy making deals at the elite level.

I mean Liverpool with Coutinho is a bit of an extreme example, but that's the type of stuff that can really help take a club to the next level. And they might actually repeat that one if some club ever comes for Salah.

With Woody for six years it's been one questionable deal after the other for me, bar two or three exceptions. I'm hardly the biggest fan of DoF's (because I've seen it go wrong at so many clubs over the years) and of course it's not only down to Woodward's personal incompetence, but surely there must be someone out there who could do/could've done a much better job.

Good news. A hard working committed player who was never good enough to play for us. His signing marked the start of the demise of this club and hopefully his sale will mark the revival.
Exactly how i feel but a much more sensible and amicable way of wording it than i would have done!

The suggestion that Fellaini has worked harder than most has always been flimsy. On many occasions over the years he’s been caught napping, or trundling back into his own half. Not that he’s the only one; they all do it from time to time. What managers liked about him was his positional discipline, not necessarily his workrate.

This is an ideological sale. We’re attempting to recreate the image that United are an attractive, attacking football ‘club’ and Fellaini is the first casualty, in spite of him being a good player. Albeit one who’s role has been significantly inflated by those people who like to praise (and thereby insult) him for merely passing the ball in a straight line.

I don't understand why is people happy of him leaving right now. I understand that he is not a starting option for Ole but we are so short on midfielders that we shouldn't let him go right now without finding a replacement.

If for some reason Pogba/Matic/Herrera get injured we will have to turn to Fred, Pereira or McTomminay who offer nothing. We should be looking to strength our team not weaken it.

For all the criticism he receives I feel way more comfortable playing him besides the other 3 mentiones options. He may not be top quality, but he can retain the ball and is good on the aerial game.

I would have no problem to let him go if we had a replacement, but with the window being closed so soon I expect we won't bring no one and will end up even shorter in the midfield area.

It's a good move for and a very good move for his bank balance.

I personally think Fellaini has always got more stick than he deserves. The Goldbridgeites in our fan base seem to blame Fellaini for everything that has gone wrong in our post-Fergie banter era.

He serves a purpose but the tweet he sent out after his contract renewal said it all really. He staying to play for Mourinho not club and certainly not the fans.

Bizarre bit of business going on if he is leaving. He was out of contract last summer and we only signed him to a new contract at the last minute (with rumours saying we ended up paying him nearly Sanchez money), and now we're letting him go? Another example of Woodwards poor negotiating skills.

Have a feeling Garner will be added to the squad. Believe me when I say this - and I don't hype youngster, even Greenwood - James Garner is special.

I'm sure Ole would like to have Fellaini as a option for certain circumstances but the fact is for the majority of the time he'll likely be on the bench or in the stands.
And for a player who's reportedly on over a 100k (after signing a deal in the summer) then its only right to cut you loses on him if he's only going to feature sporadically.

This will hopefully be the first step in getting rid of apparent deadwood ,who are also on likely silly wages.

So 7m, 15m or whatever from a Chinese club?

But listening to his fans I tought that many teams from Europe would want him.

If he goes, we might some day in the future see a replacement. Whilst he stays, we can't expect that.

Really? You got these people to quote? I seem to just remember some fans pointing out his usefulness against the waves of ridiculous hyperbole thrown about, as if he was some bloke we found behind the bike sheds and gave him a 400k a week contract.
You will find the quotes in the fellaini thread directly after Mourinhos sacking. I won't mention any names but there was smug group that was adamant the next manager will be the 4th one to rely on Fellaini and accusing anyone who critises fellaini as "hating" or "disrespectful" etc . After it was pointed out that it didn't mean anything since all of them were sacked .

Don't exaggerate... When Benteke was prefered to Lukaku, Lukaku was only 20 years old at the time. I always liked pre-Liverpool Benteke, but Lukaku was obviously the bigger talent.

Benteke was young too. Lukaku was not the obviously bigger talent. That’s why Benteke went to Liverpool and Lukaku went to Everton.

Never in a million years was Andy Carroll a better footballer than the Aston Villa Christian Benteke. He was not just some lump. Much better than Lukaku and was the first choice ahead of him for country. Then it all seems to have inexplicably gone to shit tbh. But the big man had some silk to his game for sure, he had a brilliant touch and finesse with his finishing Carroll and Lukaku could never have.
Both at the top of their game and fully fit I'd have Andy Carroll. Don't forget Carroll has a few belters in his locker as well.

To be fair, Big Ben literally scored the same goal against us at Old Trafford. Although not as good, of course.

As much as I like to see Fellaini leave, I don't feel this is the right time to sell him though.

Fellaini could still be a valuable plan B especially against European opponents when nothing else is working out.
He could cause chaos in the opponents box with his physical presence. 2 games I recall are the Super Cup FInal vs RM (even though we lost that game, Fellaini did cause a lot of trouble for their defense) and the recent win at Juventus.

The problem with Mou was that he often used him as our plan A. Now with Mou gone, I'm sure that would not happen. Ole could keep him till the end of the season may be as a plan B, before we buy a better CM.

It’s not his fault, he has clearly loved being a Man Utd player and he’s never complained about the fans on his back or being a sub all the time.

He’s just nowhere near good enough at passing, dribbling and ball control to be at a club who wants to win things.

What tweet was that?

I meet these selfless people every day, hitch-hiking and staying for free in people's homes all around the world. They have almost nothing and they share whatever they have. Get a grip.
What the feck are you on about:lol: This is the Fellaini thread.

Also, I can't recall replying to any of your posts so why are you quoting my discussion with another poster?

Which kid though ? McT ? Perrera ? Naa - Fellaini will offer a lot than both of them .

Mctominay provides us with more movement while Periera brings more class to the table. We also have Fred and Mata to use as substitutes. We really don't need Fellaini

It's a long overdue we get good money for shit players. Hopefully we have some Chelsea-like directors to pull an Oscar or Ramires-like move for Fellaini.

Exactly. This argument does my head in anyway. You need both quality and hard work to be a United player.

The timing of this transfer is so surreal.

He joined United at the start of this awful 5 and a half year period we've had. I always said he represented a dark cloud over our club and a style of play which should never come anywhere near Man United. (A bit harsh yes, but he incapsulates everything i've hated with United in the last few years)

Now we have Ole in charge, the football is exactly how it should be and things are going well again.......He is moving away to another club. It's almost like the clouds are clearing and the sun is breaking through again.

I don't want to be completely negative about him, he has impressed me with the way he's taken all the abuse he has got on the chin and continued to fight. A proper fighter....albeit a bit clumsy.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Rumour has it we're getting £7m for a player we already paid £7m over the odds for.

I received an email from Manchester United urging me to celebrate the Chinese new year. I guess we'll all start by taking the rubbish out.

I think it's the opposite. We could have let him go in the summer for free but instead we tied him down to a contract and kept some value. If the final transfer fee is £7m as stated, £2m are roughly the wages we've paid him since summer, so that's £5m extra we have to play with, not including any bonuses we might get.

It could have been a Ramsey or Emre Can situation where the club are left nothing.

He came here under a massive dark cloud with SaF leaving and being replaced by Moyes. We ended up losing out on Kroos etc and then paid more than his release clause to get him which people have just not forgotten. For that reason he was always the scapegoat for nearly everyone when performances were shite (not saying they weren't warranted as I was one of them). Deep down we all know the guy wasn't United standard what we were used to, but sadly what we have had to put up with for a few years. Hopefully not anymore though!!!

Thanks for the memories, hope you enjoyed playing for United and best of luck for the rest of your career. Simple as

Should have offered him a one year deal. That’s enough time for Mourinho to find a new club and splurge £50million for him.

I dont think its that at all, but he is the face of sh!t football in much the same way Mark Fowler was the face of aids in the 90s!

What position does Garner play? CDM, CAM or CM? I dont really follow the youngsters besides Greenwood. In your opinion is he better al ready than McTomminay/Pereira?

Good riddance, would let him leave on a free if that's what it took. Fellaini going will be a catharsis of the post Fergie years, and whether he can contribute something or not, the psychology of him leave will far outweigh any benefit of him staying imo.

on a separate note as i cant post in the match thread, is the game tonight on tv in UK? sky or bt?
