Favourite match or moment against the divs?

Has to be my first game at old Trafford 1992, Eric Cantonas debut. There’s been better games but none more memorable for me.
I was at that but not sure it's my most memorable, the Cantona/Keano comeback I think is mine

09/10 against them was just class all year.

The 4-3 with Owens last minute winner. Rooney's last minute winner in the League Cup. Scholes' last minute winner in April. Getting a last minute winner 3 times against your rival in the same season is hard to beat.

I dont know why but that match just before Covid. Something very satisfying about that win. I was convinced we were going to lose. Then McTominay's long range shot and Bruno's cheeky free kick that led to the goals was brilliant. I just remember the pub going ballistic. My only regret as a united fan was turning off the match before the Owen goal. Feck!

Favourite has to be the 3-2 comeback at Maine road. Niall Quinn had put Citeh 2-0 up, Cantona equalised following an outrageous pass by Giggs. Keane then completed the comeback.

Mine too. Vivid memories of watching it on Sky under a decorating table while my dad and my uncle wallpapered our living room. Epic comeback!

Eric’s debut…The excitement of him coming out of the tunnel at halftime. The teams were still pretty close back then but we won with ease. I can’t take them seriously since they won the lottery so nothing since particularly impresses me.

My dad (now deceased) brought me. One of my best memories and early moments with him, so it’s maybe not so much the game but the occasion and what it means to me

When Michael Owen said "if we have more goals than them we win this game" and went to do exactly that.

There are so many. September 30, 1967 at Maine Road. My birthday present from my brother was a match ticket. Bell scored after 5 minutes which shook us up a bit but then Bobby took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored two goals to put us into the lead before half time. The game livened up when Stan Bowles, making a rare appearance for City, took a lump out of Brian Kidd who responded with a punch. Both players went into the book and the game petered out.

September 27, 1975. Back in the old First Division and a bunch of reds bought tickets from White and Swales and so ended up in the blue half of the Kippax. All went down in the first half. Jimmy Nicholl put through his own goal before David McCreery and Lou Macari put us ahead. Joe Royle equalized after 31 minutes and that was the end on the on-field action.

January 24, 1970. Wilf was in charge for our 4th round cup tie. 63,000 all ticket crowd and City were confident of victory. Malcolm Allison was mouthing off in the MEN about how they would rub our noses in it but the game was a tense affair until just before half time when Bobby broke into the City area and was brought down by Glyn Pardoe. Willie Morgan slotted the penalty past Mulhearn for a 1-0 half-time lead. 2nd half and United attacking the Stretford End. Stepney punted the ball up the pitch. Bobby ran down the middle but Brian Kidd outstripped Tommy Booth to score our second. A few minutes later and a Francis Lee free kick was charged down. The ball flew into the empty City where Kidd chased it down, chipped the keeper and it was 3-0.

The Fergie years saw may great derbies but the ones from my school days and college days stand out in the memory. The city was divided and the days leading up to the game were electric. Bobby has gone and many of my derby memories featured the great man and how he loved to beat City. I hope we can win one for him this time round.

Those are some great memories to have.

Out of interest. Do you remember those moments clearly, or did you have to look them up?

My wife always gives out to me for being able to recall a moment from some random game 20 years ago in fine detail, but half the time I don't remember to pick up stuff in the shop, peoples birthdays or put the bins out.

I think the 2018 game where City needed a home win to claim the title deserves a mention. Went 2-0 up before Pogba scored 2 in 2 minutes and Smalling tapped home to secure win. They piled on the pressure, DDG made a good save from Aguero and there were a few scrambles but they managed to keep the cnuts out to secure the win and stop them from winning the title a home against Utd. Utd went and lost to West Brom the following week anyway and City won the title, so it didn't matter, but it was delightful on the day.

The 3-2 in 17/18 is worth a mention. Divs scrapping with each other in the stands, brilliant.

I'm gonna mention another moment that hasn't been talked about: Our win on Etihad in 2016. Rashford had scored in his debut, his Premier League debut (against Arsenal) and then scored the winning goal in his Derby debut. It looked like a pure story of miracle back then.

There are plenty of good memories/favourite moments here. I'll add a couple of mine - apologies if it's a bit long:

1975 at Maine Road. My first away derby at the height of the Red Army notoriety. I was 15 and in the Kippax (half of which was allocated to us, rival fans separated only by a fairly flimsy mesh fence) It was mayhem pre, during and after the game. The game itself I do not remember too much of, other than when we scored there were big pockets of reds jumping in every part of the ground. Aggro galore. At full time (2 - 2) we were held back. There were uncovered steps leading down to the exits and we were bombarded with bricks, bottles etc. from the departing City fans. I don't remember getting home.

Feb 2008 at Old Trafford. The 50th anniversary of Munich. Such a sombre, muted, emotional atmosphere. A guy I vaguely knew from another forum (Denis the King? Denis Lawless?) had campaigned tirelessly with the club for a fitting club tribute to commemorate the tragedy. He was successful and both teams wore replica v-necked, short sleeved 1958 shirts - no sponsors, no logos. The club also put commemorative scarves on every seat (including blue and white ones for the City fans)

There was a lot of chatter/speculation in the build up to the match about whether City fans would respect the minutes silence, even though Frank Swift also lost his life in the disaster. To their credit they did, apart from some fireworks being set off some distance from the ground.

We lost the game 1 - 2, but in the scheme of things that did not seem to matter. I do have one favourite memory of it though - John O'Shea somehow found himself attacking on the right wing, tried a couple of Ronaldo stepovers, and kicked the ball out for a throw-in.

Funny you should ask. My memories from that time are quite vivid. Just small things like my brother giving me a birthday card with a match ticket in it. Stan Bowles giving the V sign to the United fans, Lou Macari with arms raised after scoring. I remember those in greater detail than I remember, say, van Persie's winner, or Pogba's goals. Plus I have the match programmes from those old games so it's easy to refresh my memory.

Fair enough, aside from Cantona coming on and Sparky scoring, my abiding memory of that game was it pissing down and laughing at the condoms in the roofless Stretford End!

I think that applies to a lot of us, some matches or moments just stick with you, not just derby matches and not always United ones, the first ever game I can remember watching was the '69 cup final on TV, we went to my Grandad's in West Gorton to watch it, but he, my Dad and his brother, all City fans, buggered off to the pub to watch it, I was really pissed off about that because I wasn't allowed to go, mind you I was 6!!

I remember being at Old Trafford for the 6th round game against Everton that we lost 0-1. City were at home to Spurs that day and I remember seeing buses with City scarves hanging out of the windows. Bit of a crap day really. I don't remember the final much except for Neil Young's goal but at school the next week, the council were doing work on the roads. One kid walked through the gates with a City scarf on and got hit on the back with a clump of wet mud. One of the council blokes threw it.

It's quite weird the stuff you remember in such vivid detail.

I can recall moments from matches I played in in school and all years ago like it only just happened. But fecked if I remember stuff from a game I played in or was watching 6 months ago.

Top bloke

TBH I barely remember the actual game, I really remember the piss-heads coming home and as a United fan getting some shit, the FAC was a big deal in those days, it's a pity it's not regarded as such by a lot these days, I vicidly remember the noise at Wembley in '85 when Kevin Moran was sent off, I thought the roof was gonna blow off with the chants of "there's gonna be a riot" - there was less noise when Nutty Norman curled the winner past Southall

I also remember a cup game at Ewood Park on a Friday night, think it was live on the BBC, the away stand had a low corrugated roof, the rain was pelting down and that was all you could hear, I vaguely remember a shite game which I think we won and a massive headache!

Doesn't have to be football, I can remember vividly stuff from years ago, and nothinbg for something I did a few hpurs ago!

Let's get some pre derby day positivity flowing.

What's your favourite memory against city?

Think mine is this.

We weren't playing particularly well at the time. Rio had just been banned and we were looking shaky.

OT was bouncing. The performance in the second half (with ten men) was amazing.

Cristiano brilliant assist and great goal, Ruud clinical, Howard with some stunning saves and to this day I don't take their last goal as legit.

But Scholes leaving his own celebration after goal is great to see

Was watching it at home, fun and frustrating times when looking back at that whole period!

The chaotic 4-3.

Watched it high as feck with three friends, chelsea, liverpool and ac milan supporters, and all of them feckers cheered for City throughout the match. Oh what joy for me and misery for them brough Owen with that goal!!

Also, played some PES after that, killed them with United

I miss the grand old days of the FA Cup. I was too young to really remember the 1963 final so I had to wait until 1976. We were all overawed by the occasion including the players. We met up with some Southampton fans a few hours before the game and they were pretty much saying that all we had to do was show up to win. Talk about the kiss of death. 1977 was different altogether. Liverpool were the favourites and all week the press had been going on about their treble. My own theory, for what it's worth, was that Liverpool were already in Rome on cup final day. I remember players like Keegan, Heighway, and Smith showing frustration as they couldn't get their passing game together. United were fighting for every ball. After the game, we met a scouser who was trying to get to Rome. He had no ticket and he was going to bunk the boat train to Calais and on from there.

The first Nani goal is one of my favourites.

The 3-2 win at the Council House in Pep's second season was a big 1. They'd already basically won the league but we denied them the once in a lifetime opportunity to crown it, against us. They were so confident that they'd had memorabila made to mark the occasion which all ended up in landfill. The icing on the cake was that Sky had devoted extra programming for the celebrations & they ended up having to talk about a Utd win.
Ha!
Great.

Surprised Van Persie's last minute free kick hasn't been mentioned. Huge moment in the title race as it felt like it sealed title number 20 in December. Made all the more sweeter by the fact that they thought they'd clawed back a draw after being 2-0 down.

And even more sweeter by the ball being deflected in by Nasri, who bitched out of being in the wall and sort of hid behind the man next to him.

A draw would have been a horrendous result too, Ashley Young had a goal wrongly disallowed when he was miles onside. Should have been 3-0 and over.

I remember that game and it was brilliant - but fecking hell, that pitch. Not even 20 years ago. Technology really has come a long way...

Has to be the Rooney overhead kick, just because I was there to see it and it was my brother's first ever game at Old Trafford.

Also special mention to 1-0 win at the Etihad in 2007. Michael Ball deliberately stamping on Ronaldo and getting away with it, only for Ronaldo to then beat him in the area and win a penalty. Then Michael Ball diving to win a penalty in the second half, only for VDS to save it and ultimately win us the league. Some nice instant justice.

Great watch this, reminds of times when we had a team full of players that fought for the badge, lack of quality was more than made up for in heart and desire. How many in that team would NOT get in our current team? Would P Nev be our best CM, Fortune our best LB? Difficult to see it otherwise.

Yeah. You could pick any of 5-6 players from then who'd be easily our best player now, and about 15 who'd be our hardest working. RVN always used to have the tap in merchant stigma but when you watch his goals back there's very few players about then or now who'd score them. He could bring a 60 yard pass out of the air and bang it into the net while being man marked.

Although, our lineup did also regularly feature Djemba Djemba, Bellion, etc. around that time.

The Owen one was insane. I was only a little kid, but I still remember my dad sliding about a kilometre across our living room when it went in  Probably what got me hooked to United.

For me, last season at home was right up there. The emotion in the crowd, especially the Stretford End, when Bruno played the pass to Garnacho was beautiful already, let alone when we scored the 2 goals. 2017-18 was incredible too because I didn’t want City winning the league against us, but extremely lucky as we scored our only 3 chances of the game. If we’re talking about pure footballing domination, then LvG’s 4-2 win in 2015 tops everything else I’ve watched. We were just a better footballing side then - if we played that game 10 times, we’d win 9.

The first Nani goal is a one of my favourites.

That game despite being a community Shield game will always be a random favourite of mine. We battered them, yet somehow were 2-0 down at half out of nothing, and then battered them just with goals in the 2nd.

I was too young to remember the 4-3 but I remembered the most important goal (Owen's one) and just going crazy as a kid.

Other than that, I would probably say Nani's winner at Wembley. I thought it was a bigger game than it was, didn't quite understand that it was a community shield game

Summerbee having a meltdown in the studio after Rooney overhead kick winner. Bitter blue .

Good thread - the 4-3 cannot be topped

Difficult to believe after last night that we beat City at home earlier this year too!
