I really liked Linda (played by Meryl Streep) in the movie Deer Hunter as well as Kay Adams (played by Diane Keaton) in the Godfather films.

As for television, I enjoyed Sarah Clarke Duncan as Nina Myers in 24 as well as Detective Olivia Benson from Law & Order: SVU, as played by Mariska Hargitay.

What say you?

Arielle Kebbel as Elyse in American Pie: Band Camp

Shit film, good character and hot!

From TV probably characters such as Jane Tennison and Sam Ryan, I like strong yet also vulnerable female characters. From Film, there are too many to mention, but characters such as Clarice Starling and Susy Hendrix come to mind.

Polly Walker in Rome.
Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth Moss in Mad Men.
Sonja Sohn in The Wire.
Lucy Davis in The Office
Pauline Mc Lynn in Father Ted.

It can be hard to find good female characters in TV shows at times. The main ones in Breaking Bad, Dexter, Mad Men, The Sopranos are all annoying cnuts.

Clear winner.

Glenn Close as Patty Hewes in Damages
Glenn Close in The Shield

Just personally don't think she's all that as a character is what I meant..

I can understand why some people might find her attractive (I personally don't)...but as a character, she's really poorly written, poor humour and unfunny jokes..

Good call. Beautiful, deceitful, evil, yet somewhat redeeming, especially with the last scene of the series. Also her daughter in the film, and the older women she feuds with

Shoshanna from Inglourious Basterds, and the German spy/actress

Lucille, Maebe and Lindsay from Arrested Development

Dee Reynolds

Dobby from Peep Show

Mel from FOTC

Atia was a great character, god damn what a woman
