Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is lining up Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella for a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Dieci are reporting that Sir Alex has been monitoring Quagliarella and would like the striker to replace Henrik Larsson who will return to Helsingborgs. Quagliarella has had an impressive season for Sampdoria, scoring 10 goals in 25 appearances. The striker attracted the attention of both Inter and AC Milan during the January transfer window and a summer exit looks on the cards for the talented Italian.

I like the way some of you guys scout the players out (through Football/Championship Manager). It is probably just another rumour, lets wait and see though.

just watched some of his clips on you tube boy oh boy doese he look class.

some cracking goals.

When we had a striker shortage there were all sorts of rumours. These disappeared when we got larsson. Now larsson has gone, as if by magic, the striker rumours begin again.

News FLASH
By Steve BATES

MANCHESTER UNITED last night stepped up their interest in Serie A hotshot Fabio Quagliarella.

I can reveal that Sir Alex Ferguson's brother Martin, United's European scout, was in Genoa to watch Sampdoria's league clash with Palermo.

All of Europe's leading clubs are watching Sampdoria ace Quagliarella, 23.

But I understand United have stolen a march on their rivals - and agents in Italy are aware they mean business.

Quagliarella, with 10 goals in 25 Serie A games, is highly rated within Italy, where AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan are all watching his development.

United have watched him several times in recent weeks and, as People Sport revealed last week, they are also keeping tabs on Ajax striker Jan Huntelaar and Reading's Leroy Lita.
