Fabio Coentrão

How many games of him have you watched?

Hes doesnt dive nowhere near as much as Nani does.

I can tell you that I haven't seen a game where he hasn't. All of the WC games, some qualifiers this year, CL this year and very little else this season.

He's just way worse at how he goes about his diving than Nani. Coentrao is like Busquets/Puyol type diver. Also tries to get people sent off, not just win free kicks. He's a very good player but he's annoying as feck.

Signing for Real Madrid for 30Million Euros in the Summer according to Portuguese Press.

The future of Fabio Coentrao not hardly pass by Real Madrid. At that Record was found from a source close to the process, there is a kind of gentlemen's agreement between officials and the emblem of Benfica meringue for reds do not listen to other proposals by the end of the season, when the Spaniards hope to accomplish the recruitment of international Portuguese.

Key piece in this whole process - just like it was in the change of Di María to the Spanish capital last summer - will be the agent Jorge Mendes, recently named as the best agent of the football world. Mendes is 'just' the representative of Jose Mourinho and Fabio Coentrao and still has a special relationship with Florentino Perez and Valdano. Indeed, all business conducted between the two clubs in recent years had the participation of "super manager" as it is now called.

I see this in his future:

Marcelo has improved a lot lately, I don't think the bench would be a certainty for either of them.

That said, there's not much in this rumour, they just mention a "near source to the process" and don't have a single quote. We have 3 daily sports newspapers in our small country (more if you add the web-based ones), they have to make a living.

Fabio Coentrao is a much better defender than Marcelo but attacking wise I think Marcelo is a little better purely due to his speed. I don't know how well Marcelo can cross though but the runs he makes are pretty good.

I hope Evra stays, which I think he will. But I m happy with Fabio as back up for now. I highly doubt we will get Coentrao if Evra stays.

Not sure I agree with that, been pretty impressed with Marcelo's defensive work recently and similarly unimpressed by Coentrao.

Marcelo? The Real Madrid player? He's one of the worst I have ever seen

Rubbish, Marcelo has been brilliant for almost 2 years now.

He was laughable every time he played against a good team. Against Villarreal was one of the worst performances I have ever seen for a left back.

Good this year, pathetic last year.

But then again, defending has never really been his strong point.

Attacking-wise he is a joy to watch, so quick. His defending has improved alot, which seems to have gone abit unnoticed by some people. Attacking full backs are always going to be vulnerable to counter attacks, doesnt mean they cant defend.

I'd rate him one of the top attacking LB's already for Marcelo, his defensive work is poor though, school boy errors at times, but he played LW for Madrid for several reasons last season, he has a good shot on him and a pace which can not be underestimated.

Contentrao would be purchased for tactical reasons, not that Marcelo is a bad LB imo.

On the way to Bayern Munich for 23m pounds.

20m Angel Di Maria
17m Ramires
20m David Luiz
23m Fabio Coentrao?
----------------------
80m in the space of 12 months for Benfica

Begs the question who do they have left that United should be interested in? All 4 of those are quality players

They're making a shedload but they're also breaking up what was an excellent side last season and losing their competitive edge against a flourishing Porto side. I've got a feeling Cardozo might leave too.

Its reported that Bayern has made an offer but thats about it, he hasnt signed with them.

According to the press here theres some kind of deal between Benfica and Real where the spanish side would have preference over Coentrão ina future transfer as long as they matched what other teams offer.

That's how Porto and Benfica keep their head above the water, no other way around it. I don't think Benfica lost that much on the pitch, they're not that weaker in relation to last year, Porto's the one doing an atypical league, with only 2 draws so far. I don't believe the difference will be that big next year. It looks like an attenuated version of La Liga here, with both teams winning almost every game (except for the dire start of the season by Benfica, in the first 4 matches, which is when they lost the league).

Porto will also have to sell at the end of the season, that's our cycle, it depends on which of both clubs can get a better bang for their buck. So far we'd been alone in this, now it seems Benfica is finally catching up. They've lost those players, but others like Gaitán, Jara, and Salvio (this last one on loan, but nevertheless very promising and they will possibly try to negotiate with Atletico in order to keep him) are keeping the team strong and will be worth a lot of money soon.

I think we're still above them in many levels (i.e., check their European CL performance this season) but the gap is probably closing, while Sporting is left further and further behind.
