FA Youth Cup 5th Round: Spurs vs. United

Really poor defending, nice finish though.

United's keeper has been bobbins.

I don't think we had ever a chance to reach at least the semi-finals. Other clubs are much better/stronger.

Win this game and we probably reach the semi's atleast. And it was pretty tight before their 2nd goal. That whole CBJ goal dissallowed marginally and then them striking on counter turned it.

Thing with U18 teams is that it really is quite cyclical - and we seem at the 'early' part of a cycle.

Bewildering from Mcguiness. Team 3-1 down looking tired and defeated and he has 2 subs left which he won't use.

SPurs played really well
Crazy isn't it

Tottenham have a Gareth Bale lookalike too (Kenny McEvoy)
oh my:-D they must have a clone machine or Bale sr. knows McEvoys mother

They didn't gave us really a chance. Haven't seen the first half tho. We had a good spell until we scored that disallowed goal after which we concede from counter attack. TFM should be promoted to u21

He has been quiet today...

Spot on. This is a very young side and as such there's still the odd ingredient missing, but it's a great vintage in terms of talent, and ultimately that's all that matters.

I rarely saw him get the ball. Not sure if it was due to his movement, spurs shutting him down, or if everyone ignored him unconsciously. Completely anonymous apart from the couple of times he broke up an attack.

he has made some excellent tackles at the start of second half. I liked his strength a lot..

Doesn't mean he's ready to play U21s football at this point of time. You're getting ahead of yourselves too much.

Well that was a pity. Really thought when it was 1-1 we were well in control. We looked most likely to win it. Good breakaway goal by them though and they closed it out well.

Pity we're short on strikers. Rashford does fine but I'm not sure he's quite natural there.

Lack of natural striker really deter this team from scoring goals. The midfielders seem don't know what to do when the get the ball in the final third.Rashford's first touch is too erratic for a striker.

True. And we only have Croskery in the whole squad! Still there's some talent in defence and midfield.

Phisically he is more than ready, technically surprised a lot of us coming into team as CB and showing great feet dribbling through the midfield and tactically I guess he is also well ahead of his age, seems pointless for him to stay at u18 now they are finished at youth cup. Could be at least handed a start ahead of Grimshaw and Weir who are never gonna make it here.. that's my point .-)

There's a lot of difference between U18s and U21s football. The speed of football is much faster especially now we're mostly playing against "top" U21s team.He has a lot to learn at this level before moving him up.Tactically he is nowhere ahead of his age as well as his passing. In both of the "big games" that he played this season he has been quiet except for his tackling.May I should point to the performance of Januzaj vs Burnley two years ago that he got 3 assists and still criticised by SAF.That's the standard for players who played U21s football one year earlier than others, let alone two years earlier as you are suggesting.

Grimshaw and Weir look good in the U18s two years ago and are two of our most important players that season, isn't that the most apparent evidence about the difference between both level?Weir played in a total different position, offered a lot of versatility to the squad and has been good recently.

Oh right didn't watch that match as I was in Myanmar without wifi at that time.Still remember he got 3 assists in a match and still being told as below par.

It was the Burnley game that Fergie had a go at him for but he only got 1 assist. He was easily the best player on the pitch though put in some brilliant passes and crosses.

I always found it odd that he had a go at Adnan because he was our best player in that match. The defense messed up that team's chances at a fa youth cup.

We were unlucky I thought. We score it's ruled offside and then they hit us on the counter. After that we weren't really in it. The kids will learn from the experience. We tried to force the game but you have to defend properly. Well played Spurs.

Don't know the age of the Spurs team, but it did seem like they were a bit more mature, physically and as a team. A lot of our lads will still be eligible next year and there was absolutely no disgrace in the way they lost this match (with a fully fit, and in-form Mitchell I think we could have won).

Having previously been impressed by Tyler Reid - a little less so in this game - I would definitely mention Axel Tuanzebe in dispatches. I thought he was absolutely outstanding. Still to see Williams and CBJ ar same level yet, though both had their moments. At any rate, there is something very refreshing about watching a United team, whatever the level, in which the defenders are exciting to watch because of how good they are and not because you feel like they're always just a moment away from doing something stupid and inept.
