F1 2020 Season

would be interested to know who achieved it in least amount of races.

Hamilton (256 races starts), Schumacher got his last podium (on race 293) in his final season in Valencia (finished on 306 race starts)

Never been a Vettel fan but it's just sad to see where he is now.

Im the same ive never liked him but I feel bad for him nothing seems to go his way anymore.

Sometimes it's his fault but it feels like Ferrari have just give up on him completely.

Seems pretty clear that he is thoroughly pissed off to have been given the push.
Of course the car is not really competitive.
But it is not as bad as 12th.
He isn't doing himself any favours by driving as awfully.

Do you not think that he has given up on them??

Can’t give Leclerc enough credit for doing what he is doing especially the last 2 weekends. He is driving the socks off that car and thoroughly overachieving with that shit car. Wish I could say the same about Vettel. His mind just isn’t there. They should mutually part ways now so it does both Vettel and Ferrari some good.

Great race by Max but Albon deserves a lot of credit as well for just never giving up. Seems like he has a lot of mental strength to finish where he did.

Albon could have easily had a podium today, they had the pace. Another issue with his Saturday performance in qualifying.

He wasn’t doing great anyway even with a competitive car. Only one good year where he was fighting for the title. This way Ferrari get to save maybe 10-20m in salary alone and maybe use that money towards bettering the car for next year.

Well considering Vettel hasn't got a drive yet next season as far as we know you would think he would be desperate to impress. Either way him and Ferarri are not exactly a match made in heaven im sure they are both going to be glad to see the back of each other.

I don't dislike Hamilton but he s such a whiner. Even when he approached Max to congratulate him he decided to make it about himself and the tyres.
Come on he's not a whiner. Everyone of those F1 drivers are never satisfied, but I never hear them accused of whining.

Are they going to ask Stroll if his daddy forced Hulk to box just so he didn't finish ahead of him?

How's it looking for him at Red Bull right now? They aren't very patient with their drivers and Albon, despite doing relatively well, is always quite far behind Max (who is an unfair standard to be compared against, of course).

Barcelona next weekend and weather is hot and sunny, Mercedes need to sort tyre problem or its a repeat of this week.

Not sure of that, the teams have done huge amounts of testing at Barcelona so it shouldn't be difficult to dial in the set up. The tyres are the same for last weeks race so I don't think they will have the problems they've seen today.

Correct.
There is a big difference between a winner and a whiner.
No decent racer is going to be happy when things are not going their way.
That is what drives them.

Great race by Max. He's the only one that can rival Hamilton for talent right now. Would love to see them go head to head in the same car.

Hulk was reporting vibrations on the pit lane channel (blistering), the team didn't think he would finish if they didn't pit.

I hope they don’t. The race is much more fun this way. I was hoping their tires would blow up towards the end of the race to make the championship more interesting.

Thanks for laying it out like that. I was wondering how much Schumacher’s 2nd stint in F1 would ruin his “efficiency.”

Significantly I would say, 154 podiums came on race 246. Hamilton's 154th came on race 255.

Apparently not very good in high temps.
I could understand last week, but it's quite strange that. Will be interesting to see how they deal with it.
Pity the others get a look in only when there is trouble with Mercedes. Nonetheless its great that Verstappen won, need this championship to be a bit more than just straight forward, which is what it's been looking like!

Mega drive from Verstappen. Red Bull have a good race car, Verstappen was doing well up until retirement in the first Austrian race and of course Albon was on for at least a podium when him and Hamilton had their incident. Verstappen didn't let the Mercs get too far away last week and Albon salvaged P5 today as well.

Surprised Mercedes don't sacrifice as much in qualifying when they have such a big deficit in that area.

What I loved the most was Max earnt that victory for himself.

If the team had their way they'd play it safe and hope for a safety car. He took the "bull by the horns" and went at them, made them pit earlier than they wanted and changed the strategy completely.

It was remarkable how Max's tyres after 20+ laps were better than both the Mercedes after 8 laps. In a different championship I think Mercedes would have left the trailing Mercedes out as long as possible to try and spoil Verstappen's race and let the lead Mercedes gap him.

In an interview Christian Horner attributed the Merc issues due to the higher amounts of downforce they had on he car today compared to Red Bull.

I think I saw they had a skinnier rear wing in the pits on Thursday, I don't think they used it though? Seemed obvious to me last week that softer tyres and hot weather would cause issues for Mercedes.

Yeah they didn't use it, which with softer tyres this week it explains why they were suffering with blistering and overheating tyres constantly.

Hamilton referenced the tyre pressures too, I think they expected some difficulty but decided sticking with the setup from last week was the best idea. I imagine a safety car would have helped and was probably in those calculations.

Yeah massively, Mercedes also never ran the hard tyre until the race as they only had two sets (most teams were in the same boat) so it was uncharted territory on that set up and PSI combo.

Why do they strategize so much with safety cars in mind? They also kept mentioning it on the BBC live commentary. Is it such a given that one will come in at some point, and that it's likely to be a point where it's useful to the team? I didn't think safety cars were quite that common.

Fantastic drive from Verstappen, first time in a long time I've been very happy to see someone not in a Ferrari win a race. Leclerc deserves mentioning as well, he's done incredible over the last two races considering how far off they are in qualifying.

How did Hamilton manage to get away from speeding in the pit lane though, must have been extremely close?

It's not a given but some circuits have them more often than others. Silverstone I think they said had safety cars in each of the previous 8 races there. On that evidence you would feel like you should factor it into strategy.

Right, yes, makes sense, then. (I did assume anything the teams due is data-driven. :) )

It looked close. There's a speed gun on the pit entry line, he didn't trigger it so no need for an investigation.

Apparently it's average speed. Lewis slowed down even more than he had to, to make sure.
