F1 2019 season

Australia is so different, I expect Ferrari to be a lot more competitive in Bahrain. I think the natural order of the teams will be much clearer after China. For the constructors, I still favour Mercedes, given the experience they have over Le Clerc, who though obviously quick will struggle to match Vettel in his rookie season IMO. Bottas, will be desperate to better a desperately disappointing season last time out, and that will benefit Mercedes in the end for the Constructors. Let's see!

I'm hoping to get out to Monza this year. If all goes to plan, with time off work, I want to be at the Parabolica on the Sunday!
Yeah, i am expecting a tight race on sunday, with Mercedes, Ferrari and maybe even Red Bull all very close.

Are you going to Monza? I am going to Hungary, instead. First Grand Prix since 2001 in Austria for me :)

It’s a bit strange seeing Hamilton talk about racism, while completely ignoring the fact they’re racing in Bahrain. Of course he was probably asked about it and is completely right to use his position to speak out on it. Just feels so hypocritical.

I think it will be much closer here, Ferrari have had 2 weeks to look into why they under performed (and they did against the true performance of their car in my opinion). Red Bull will be good too and I fully expect Bottas to match and potentially beat Hamilton here again as it's one of his best tracks.

Awful look on his part. This race just stinks, I forgot that they even had to cancel it in 2011 because of similar issues. F1 should get out of here as soon as the contract allows them too, Bahrain must be paying them a king's ransom.

Interesting one yesterday. Ferrari’s look mighty strong but I’ve got a sneaky feeling that the Mercs have another engine mode to go up in Q2 & Q3. Interesting that Ferrari have also scrubbed their Q3 tyres apparently. Odd decision.

The majority of the time lost yesterday by HAM & BOT to the Ferrari’s was in the 1st sector which is essentially a couple of long straights. I’d be surprised if the Ferrari engine is 0.5 secs more powerful in one sector than the Mercs. Unless it’s aero related, but you’d think that would apply more to the twisty 2nd sector.

McLaren look like they might have a strongish weekend, potential for their best in a while. Strange lack of pace from Red Bull - did they get their setup wrong? Renault look like they could do ok too. The midfield race looks so tight this year, hopefully it’ll have plenty of twists & a good development race throughout the season.

McLaren should dicthed Vandoorne sooner last year. Completely wasted of space. Norris would get understudy Alonso for a while thou.

And Renault already struggling so far. Mid pack is fiercer this season.

Well done Leclerc, great lap. Surprised to see Renault didn't make it into Q3. Hopefully this will stop the moaning about how the title is over for five fecking minutes.

I love that, well deserved pole. Also great to see the gap is racey.

Cracking pole from LeClerc well deserved , Seb trying to get pole on one lap , stupid !!
Lewis and Bottas are well behind.
But I thought Ferrari were not even close to the Merc's , thought this season had already been won my Mercedes !!!

Someone would lose his shit when Ferrari mess up their usual team order tommorow.

Vettel with moustache looks like a thin Nigel Mansel. Just dreadful. He also wants to compete with Hamilton in style dept it seems.

Seb only had one set of fresh tyre left. How can you call him stupid.

He only had one set left because he used two sets in Q2 when there really was no need for it. He made a mistake on his first attempt in Q2 and was around a second behind P1, despite that he still had a few tenths down to P11 but he still went out again on a new set. I get that they don't want to risk anything but he could have used a scrubbed set and still improved his time enough to really make sure he got to Q3.
It doesn't really matter in the end though since I don't think he would have gotten pole even with a second try in Q3 anyway, but it was more risky to only have one shot at a good lap in Q3 than relying on his first time in Q2 to be enough to go through imo.

Been busy this weekend so missed the coverage but that Ferrari looks on it. Be interested to know if it's Ferrari's straight line speed or Mercs lack off. It's a big difference in 2 weeks.

Happy to see Mclarens do well. Wonder if Danny Ric might regret his call to join Renault, not looking great so far.

It's pretty similar to qualifying times last year from Bahrain (even the exact same pole time). It's a circuit that Ferrari have always gone well and no surprise that they've followed that with pole. Mercedes will probably begin to kick on around Baku/Spain this year.

Outside of Leclerc taking the headlines, Magnussen's qualifying performance was excellent today and he's really beginning to show his credibility as a consistent driver.

It should be a fairly routine 1-2 for Ferrari tomorrow, unless they have poor starts or engine management to manage.

interesting to see if team order come into play.
Will they let LeClerc win if in that position or will he be told to give it to Seb ?

Yeah, Vettel used to insist on being allocated no 1 status in the team, with it being written into his contract. I'm not sure if that's bullshit or not, or if true, if it's still the case.
