Lewis Hamilton is setting a bad example as F1 world champion with his behaviour, according to Haas driver Esteban Gutierrez.

The Mexican remains angered by the gesture the Mercedes driver gave him during the Hungarian GP after being held up by the backmarker while fighting for victory against Nico Rosberg.

"He must be aware that people are looking up to him and if he wants to give a good example this is not the way to do it," an unhappy Gutierrez told Sky Sports News after arriving in Hockenheim for the German Grand Prix.

"It's also not a good thing to criticise an opponent who is trying to do his best and trying to do the safest thing. He must be aware he has a car which is much more superior to my car.
"But for him being a world champion it is even more important in his position to give the right example - not only to kids, but to the world."

Although Hamilton hasn't apologised for the gesture, Sky Sports has been told that the world champion has sought to make contact with Gutierrez since Sunday's race at the Hungaroring.

"Being a world champion doesn't give you the right to be disrespectful to your competitors," tweeted Gutierrez directly at Hamilton immediately after the Budapest event.

Don't block the race leader for a whole lap and there won't be any need for anyone to gesticulate at you.

I don't have much probem with drivers doing it, racing is a heated sport. Isn't it DC

Good , pointless and not needed.

Vettel does not agree

Sebastian Vettel has demanded that Formula 1 introduces the controversial Halo device, telling critics of the device "nothing justifies death".

A proposal to introduce the Halo was put to a vote of F1's Strategy Group on Thursday in Geneva ahead of the German GP.

While critics have argued that the Halo would damage F1's aesthetics, Vettel himself admitted he experienced "quite a lot of impact in terms of visibility" when he ran it in practice for this year's British GP, but the Ferrari driver is adamant that it must be introduced.

"We had a vote amongst the drivers and 95 per cent voted for it. We don't like the way it looks but nothing justifies death," said the former world champion.

This car football segment is cringey.

I'm a Nico fan but surely he's pushed Max off there? He's barely turned on the entry into that corner.

Another trip to the stewards for Rosberg coming up.

He clearly pushed him off track and made no attempt to turn the steering wheel until Max had no track space. Can't believe Sky are defending that. Austria all over again (admittedly not as bad this time).

I don't agree with the Rosberg penalty. Hamilton has done the same many times and has not been penalised

Think the stewards have been pretty lenient with him, not for the first time.

What? What's that got to do with this incident? It should be judged case by case, I could care less what Hamilton has or hasn't done. Unfair on Max, totally unfair.

I'm saying that you have to be consistent throughout all cases. When Hamilton was doing so, I said no penalty. When Rosberg did it, I also said no penalty. Both very similar incidents

It's silly because we all know that they're anything but consistent. Hamilton has had more than his fair share of awful calls against him.

Actually I take back that lenient comment, Vettel got the same penalty at Silverstone for the Massa incident.
