Excellent, I am banned from viewing and posting in the general

Can anyone tell me why Melvin isn't allowed to post in the General?

I'm lost on this one.

I'm lost on this one.

In his first hour online yesterday he managed to clock up over 70 posts not including the ones I deleted and maybe others that the mods deleted. In all these posts he had virtually nothing to say and just appeared to be posting smilies and one word responses in 90% of them.

The place was rapidly becoming a mess with every post being about him and arguments breaking out all over so Stoney put him out of our misery. Considering Plech & Jopub were kicked out for 24 hours for spamming the forum the treatment of Melvin was particularly lenient, possibly because we had brought some of it on ourselves by winding him up with his post numbers.

No one poster is bigger than Redcafe though and when the attention seeking gets too much they can be dropped, regardless of how many posts they have got. Don't be surprised if Niall transfers Melvin to a Real Madrid forum in the summer if he fails to learn from his mistakes and stops being such an attention seeking prat.

Fair comments. I really get a bit sick when scanning down the topics and see Melvinyo's name as the last poster for you know that there is nothing of substance in there. It puts you off even just looking.
I really dont give a rats arse how many posts he has and have nothing personal against him but it really does get annoying.
I have a friend who refuses to post in the Redcafe any more due to this fracarse and I suspect there may be a few more "genuine" posters who will do the same.
I have read a few comments from people who complain that we a picking on a "kid". I dont see it that way, it is very annoying and childish and puts off posters who want a serious discussion.
Perhaps thw smilies should be taken out, after all one can make a point without putting cartoons at the end of a post.

NOTE TO EVERYONE:

There's always an ignore button

Note to Mel:

There's always the option to say nowt if you've got nowt to say.

Besides, the ignore button would have little effect for us mods since we can see everything on the forum including the deleted bits. It's a bit like being Haley Joel Osmont without the salary.

I have posted less today, and f am trying to post as less aas possible.

And with the General gone, there isn't really any active forums besides the United one

We've got no problems with number of posts per day provided they actually contribute to the threads in most cases. You admit yourself that you have deliberately spammed threads with little more than one word answers and smilies in the past just to see your name on every post on a page or to increase your post count.

I have always browsed the forum first by going through the interesting thread titles and checking the originator as some posters are always more interesting than others. When I then check back in, later, I will scan down all the threads to see if any I have been reading have replies. There are some names which put me off reopening a thread if they had the last response as I know it will be crap or a wind up.

I see a whole run of threads with your name behind them Mel and I know the last comment will have been :wenger: , , , :smirk: , :nono: , :boring: , or :p so tend not to bother unless there are obviously other posts behind yours.

As Redarry points out above, this does become tiresome after a while and once people associate your name with it they will stop opening threads because they don't want to wade through the shit again. There are a hell of a lot of the older posters who very rarely show their faces in here any more because they believe the caf has become juvenile and whilst none of us believe that is all down to you Mel, your name does crop up in virtually every thread so you will undoubtedly carry some of the blame.

I don't think there's any real malice towards you on the forum Mel and know that there's no ill will from the mods; but you do manage to irritate people at times and need to rein in your urge to post meaningless responses at least until people's irritation has subsided. For every Blythy, Nate, Davo, Stoney etc who try to point out the error in your ways with humour, and feigned irritation there will be another poster or maybe more who just give up on the Caf because they are sick of the irritation.

And in the time it takes me to type a response telling you to think before posting and thus reduce the number of people you drive off the forum, another one's gone. (legitimate smiley usage)

Why should people have to use the "Ignore" function to get away from you. You're fecking impossible to ignore Mel, you're everywhere at once leaping up and down shouting "look at me, look at me". You're the irritating little brother off Harry Enfield, if that's how you want to be perceived then maybe the Caf isn't the place for you.

If sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many people is sick and tired of me, why don't they just ignore me.

It's like I am impossible to ignore

That's 38 posts in less than an hour and a half this morning. Average word count 14.1 and thats probably 13.2 higher than normal while there are 26 threads with new contributions from you today (I can only think of a handful of occasions I've posted in more than a dozen threads in a single day, let alone 26 in an hour and a half).

You stated half an hour ago that you were trying to post less and have since posted another 12 times with little to say and driven somebody else off the forum. Do you think you can see a solution Mel? like thinking a bit more about your posts maybe and not trying to answer in every single thread if you really have nothing to add?

Chill out a little mate.

You obviously love United and when you make a considered post you are a great contributor to the place.

But, and it is a largish but, when you are posting mainly insignificant stuff, single words or smilies then your prodigious output does overwhelm many threads.

So why not try this for a week, a) post nothing shorter than a five word sentence, b) do not start or respond to anything at all, no matter how tempting, about your temporary exclusion from the general forum and/or your post count reduction, c) post no smilies whatsoever, especially if they are then only thing in a post and d) try to stick to less than 50 posts per day.

This thing is getting out of hand, especially since the original intention (I believe) was to give you a gentle hint to chill out a bit. Whatever you would like to believe about people's ability to ignore you take responsibility for your own action and thus give others nothing to complain about.

Nobody wants to see you banned or restricted (no smart answers please people) but your responses over the past few days have reinforced the opinions of those who you irritate. Surely you want the opposite i.e. prove them wrong.

And can everyone else leave it alone for a while as well? Ta.

Let's filter out all the agrees/good posts shall we?

First sensible post I've read.

I'll contribute when I want to, and when I do I don't count my posts, I generally go on posting and posting, if that constitutes 'spamming'.

I try to be nice but there are some people who are winding me up, making threads about me and so on.

Let's not. What I said about seeing your name at the back of the last replied list on every one of the last umpteen posts in every forum is the main problem people have with you. You don't say enough of substance to really upset people with your content.

As Wibbs says, ease off on the short posts (including the I agrees/ good posts/  s) until things have calmed down. If you were to post any of the three phrases after one of my posts, I'd first think you were simply looking to increase your post count/see your name at the end of the thread rather than actually agreeing with me. Personally, I seldom if ever post any of these things unless I have something else to add.

well said...yeah, follow this Mel and you'll be okay!

I have to agree with Wibb's.

There are on occasion, times when what you post contributes to the discussion at hand.

My only criticisim of some of your posts is, that you tend to "Cut and Paste" an article to start a thread, and whilst i dont have a problem with this. I would ask that at the end of the article, it would be prudent to add your own thoughts and thus start the debate.

Your young and obviously passionate about the caf, and you have shown that you dont care what people think of you. Is that the way you want it to continue, Because there are a lot of people out there who will gladly chip away at you till you eventually get fed up and go to another forum.

If that were to happen, there will only loser in this scenario...

You're a pain in the arse and are the only person I've ever had to stick on my ignore list...

The very fact that you car so much about your post count says it all to me...

If you can't learn from what has been said above you should be booted out IMO....although I wouldn't have given you this second chance

The answer is really very simple - stop fecking around and just ban him.

I agree, he obviously has trouble understanding what the points people are making and seems to be heading the way to get himself banned anyway.

WTF! Are you serious? He is really making people leave?

I thought that only I had that effect! ;)

Melvinyeo said:

It's not about influence, it is about proper behavior on a on-line forum that has some rules and regulations. The rules may not be written explicitly, but they are believed to be commonly understood. If you continue to act like a prick, you will be banned. This is obviusly not a threat, because I do not have that power, but a freindly observation. You should understand that a person owns all this and can ban whoever he pleases. Additional users have been given the priviledge to moderate and adminster and if they say something, you better listen. Trying to be a smartass will also result in a ban eventualy. It is up to you.

The problem with ignoring you is that people will not see why all of a sudden people talk about post count instead od the topic of the thread. The root of the problem seemes to be that you were not spanked enough when you were a child.
