Couldn't understand on tonights showing why the French chose Abidal over Evra in the national team.

Evra is head and shoulders better than Abidal. Or am I wrong?

Evra's surging runs we're one of our major attacking threats today, and have been all season. I haven't seen enough of Abidal to judge him, but he'd have to be some fullback to be better than Evra.

You're right! I've been banging this drum for ages. Abidal is converted from centre back and it shows. He looks so uncomfortable on the ball in comparison to Patrice, even Clichy and of the previous generation Bixente Lizarazu.

Abidal's confidence is shot currently, so a bit harsh to judge him as a player - he's better than he's showing. But on form, Evra should make it into any team at the moment.

This is a no brainer in my opinion. Evra is brilliant... plus i have heard he likes a punch up as well :D

Tonight just confirmed how the FA Team of the Season got it it wrong!

How the feck could you not chose Evra over Clichy!

Evra was outstanding tonight, his attacking runs were masterful. Abidal on the other hand looked uncomfortable on the ball and had poor delivery.

Evra > Abidal

It was quite simply wrong. Nothing against Clichy, but feck off has any full back played better than Evra this season.

Evra was godly. Totally overshadowed Abidal. SAF is a genius in converting the man to fullback.

I think today also provided an extra incentive for Evra to show that he's France's Number 3 for the Euros.

Sinch's right. On current form Evra should start. But generally Abidal's a better player and in a much more tigher defensive unit he is more reliable.

Evra is good for United, but France does not attack as much as United and controls the game differently, with Vieira/Toulalan and Makelele. That scheme doesn't need Evra but more Abidal. However, I don't see the reason why Clichy was chosen ahead of Evra.

Those who call Evra overrated on this board should take note of this performance. Clever player with loads of talent. He was absolutely immense today.

The thing is, Sinch - Abidal has been playing like this for 3/4 of the season.

Spot on, if you had seen him player earlier this season he was immense, easily as good as Evra or Clichy have been this season. I think he has had some injury problems and is playing in a very ropey back line and even top defenders suddenly start to look poor when the players around them are having poor games and you get no protection from midfield.

Evra is class, they should let him manage the French national team and choose himself for every game

Thing is with France, that they are very conservative. Also what the national team concerns. Time and again they have proved that by picking lesser players over in-form ones. It is harder to get out of the national team, than it is to get on it. Just ask Makalele. Wasn't it he who wasn't allowed to retire?

Perhaps the french coach don't like having attacks coming from his fullbacks. The way I see it Abidal is more of a defender with better physics. Of course Evra is the better player overall, but then again it comes down to what kind of play you want.

Spot on and that is why Silvestre got so many chances with the French NT despite several bad performances for them. And why Saha is always picked despite spending 99,8% of the season injured.

Clichy hasn't had a look in for the French yet, has he? He probably deserves an opportunity too
