.... and couldn't understand why they switched them late on.....

I think Silvestre was brought on to shore up the defence and be less adventurous down the left flank (I think it's generally accepted that to-date, Evra looks good going forward but is not as sound defensively), since we could not score a second and there was only 12 minutes to go. The last thing SAF wanted was concede a late goal as we could struggle to find another goal then to win it.

We did not need to buy him in the first place.

I can sort of accept that, but Silvestre isn't much better when it comes to defending and he's capable of some horrible mistakes, which have cost us games in the past. I guess, for me anyway looking at it honestly it was one defensive liability coming off for another. Though right now I trust Evra more than Silvestre

Spot on. Give the lad a break. He's hardly been here two minutes. Let's see what happens next season when Heinze is back. Personally, I'd rather put some faith in Evra as I think we've seen the best of Silvestre quite a few years back.

I was confused when we signed him.

I'm still confused.

Fletcher,Evra and Richardson should all be off loaded to maybe reading next season. I think id nearly prefer to see that happen then for us to sign a defensive midfielder. Gigg's decent form in central midfield has really showed how crap Fletcher really is there.Evra might not be up to the standard for another few years at least so its going to be a very frustrating signing.

I thought he did ok, some nice footwork and did a trick to get round a couple of players which had the crowd cheering. I dont remember anyone getting past him easily.
Vidic was the king of cnuts last month.

Football always looks easier when you see it on tv.

You're either taking the piss or you're an idiot if you want to sell Evra after just 6 months

silvestres looked pretty good recently. Fergie might be looking at evra at fullback but by all accounts he can play on the wing so maybe that's where his future lies in the long run. I can't see evra playing fullback next season. If he can improve his final ball you'd like to think heinze with evra infront of him, the left side would be pretty good. It's stupid to make snap judgements so give the guy a break and if we get to a point next season he's not progressing then ask the question again

Evra will not make a good left-winger. That's even more deluded than thinking he'll make a good left-back.

I thought Evra looked much better today.

he did as the game wore on. completely at 6's and 7's at the start. settled in nicely after the start of the 2nd half.

i think i read somewhere that evra wasnt playing regular football at monoco for some reason before he joined us, thats why his price tag was so cheap. i rememeber him when monco were on fire in their champions league run a couple of yrs ago and he was probably their most consistant player. all said and done he has come to united an not made the greatest of impacts but thats hardly suprising considering he's learning the english game. if you were to judge how much potential a player has on the back of a few games, then Henry would be playing in the second devision right now.

Actually my fortune teller told me he will come OK at United.

The guy also predicted Poo's champions league win last season, so you cnuts better believe him.

never trust a man who reckons he can predict the future.
Especially since its bollocks and a woman's job anyways

Fair comment SR, he has not made many starts but lets just hope he is not another Birtles !

Man Utd fans are the most impatient feckers ever! Gee-whiz, give the lad a break, you'd swear he's been playing a couple of seasons already. The reason we bought him is because he is one of the best prospects in his position. Heinze is not exactly a spring chicken.

I've seen that a couple of people in here thinks that people have jumped the gun to early on Evra but IMO the general attitude towards him isn't that people want us to sell him or anything like that. Just that he hasn't impressed yet, something which he quite clearly hasn't.

OK einstein, when Heinze is 30 nearing the end of his career, Evra will be 27, at the peak of his career...get it now?

So this is the key to the great mystery called "Why the feck did we buy Patrice Evra?"...

No he hasn't but half the muppets on here will make you believe he's been playing at Utd for an eternity. Not every player settles in quickly.

2 seasons ago he was one of Monaco's star plyers when Monaco played some great football in the UCL. I mean, is fair to call him 'King of all cnuts' already? utd fans are way way too judgmental.

You've got a point there but I still think that most people on here just thinks that he's got a poor start. Nothing more than that.

I hope so, for his sake I really hope so.

Not really. You said Heinze is 'no spring chicken' and Evra is a 'prospect'. Heinze has probably got a good 5 years or so left in him at the top of his game and at 25 in May you'd hope that Evra was more than a 'prospect'.

It was Evra himself that suggested he would be the 'King of all cnuts'

You cannot really fault them though, Evra really played shite when he first came in. Credit to him though, he has improved leaps and bounds. Glad to have him.

SAF had obviously seen that quality in him! But, what did him out was the baptism of fire against City and Liverpool... This would have affected almost anybody!
