No not Pro Evolution Soccer. Evolution or Evo, is the world's largest fighting game tournament where thousands upon thousands of people travel to the United States to take on all challengers and win the tournament

Not only will the tournament be streaming online with Team Spooky on justin.tv, but this was also announced

Watch directly from PS3
The largest fighting game competition in the world is right around the corner and we are giving you, the PlayStation Home community, a front-row seat to witness the no-holds barred action of the 2011 EVO World Finals.

From Friday, July 29th until the final battle on Sunday, July 31st we will be streaming the event live from the Rio Resort in Las Vegas to the PlayStation Home Theater. Watch as competitors from around the globe duke it out on PS3 across five competitions: Marvel vs Capcom 3, Tekken 6, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II, and Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition. Players include 2009 and 2010 Street Fighter champion Daigo Umehara who will attempt an unprecedented “3-peat” victory. Along the way to his goal he’ll face one of the strongest fields of competitors ever assembled, including US legend Justin Wong, Korean wizard Poongko, French phenom Kayane, and UK champ Ryan Hart.

The purpose of this event is twofold: First, bring the world’s top fighting game competition directly to your PlayStation 3. Secondly, we have some new video streaming technology to test in the PlayStation Home Theater and what better opportunity than this? Join us for this special event and help us test this new video streaming technology by posting about your experience in GlassWalls’ EVO 2011 World Finals Stream Test thread on the official PlayStation Home forums. Attendees will receive a line of exclusive PlayStation Home/EVO virtual items: Visitors on Friday will receive a limited edition EVO t-shirt for their PlayStation Home avatar; on Saturday players will be rewarded with a special fighting stick companion item; and on Sun all viewers will receive a replica of the EVO trophy for their PlayStation Home personal spaces.

From high-profile grudge matches to the Grand Finals (running all day on Sunday, July 31st), this year’s EVO World Finals is not to be missed. Knuckle up and log into PlayStation Home this weekend to watch the best of the best throw down until only one champion remains.

This wont be for everyone but this tournament is going to be hype and every year its bigger. Every year there's a moment where the crowd goes nuts, like in 2004. If you've never seen it, this was voted the biggest moment in competative gaming history by kotaku.com :

1. Daigo Umehara vs Justin Wong – Street Fighter III: Third Strike – EVO World Championships Finals – 2004 – Pomona, California

Capcom's Seth Killian told a stat on a recent tournament live stream about the number of views the Daigo vs Justin Third Strike video has gotten from all the videos combined. It's in the 20+ million range, making it the most-watched competitive gaming moment of all time. This match, and one 37-second moment, seems to capture the core essence and emotion of what we all feel about competitive gaming in the scene's community. If you haven't seen it, do so now.

Plus there's Juicebox and people who cant take losing

From Friday July 29th

Same time as MLG Anaheim, bit of a shame.

I'm sure it'll be stored on the teamspooky stream so you can watch after its happened. They do that with their other tournaments.

I doubt you'll have to luxury to do the same with the PS3 viewing though :nervous:

My younger brother has actually booked Friday and Monday off to watch this. Barricading himself in for the weekend, in his own words.

What a feckin' nerd.

You should see his personalised game pads. I think he paid around £200 for the latest one. He is 30. TURD.

You sure it isnt a fightstick? I cant imagine a pad being worth that much unless it was made from solid gold or something

Yeah, like you get on the old cabinets. Stick and six buttons.

Yeah those cost a lot. I wonder what he got for £200, as madcatz tournament edition sticks are around £150 and considered among the best to use right now. Thats what I have and what most people use, I'm not sure its Japanese competition sticks are available to buy over here. Maybe he just got a bad price

He bought the stick, then had some personalized design put on it. Perhaps that costs extra? fecked if I know, I'll ask him for a pic. I could be out on the price.

I under estimated. It actually cost him £360.

He says if you post on Shoryuken (he does) you will know why it cost so much.

It has his gamer tag on it.

Yeah he's got all kinds of modded parts on that, those add up. Not a bad look at all, I guess he's a Gootecks and Arturo Sanchez fan

Its a lot of money, so he better get good and go win a few tournaments. He'll be given plenty of other sticks for his efforts and not need to buy another one :p

Beautiful thing. Yes they are quite expensive, but they are worth it if you like fighting, but having one, even one customized doesn't equate you being good enough to enter tournies, or remotely close. I have a friend with 3 PS3 sticks of that one, and then 5/6 cheaper ones for his wii/pc and won't go near a tourney. Then I know someone online who has like a 5000-200 record and again had his ass handed to him in the 2 tournies he went too.

I'm not so good, since they are also both unemployed and I am not so don't get as much time in, but fighters are awesome, probably won't watch this either -_-

Online and offline are two different things. I'm sure the 5000-200 guy would get very good if he kept playing offline just so he could understand some things are "online only" tactics and that the timing is different without online lag etc.

Unfortunately the only legit way to be great at the game is to play offline as it removes random factors like lag and allows the game to be played as it was designed to be and gives you the correct amount of time to react and combo etc.

Yeah, he's being going to tournaments regularly for over a year now. He's yet to win one.

He does play offline, I only know him from a another forum, but he lives near an arcade where he plays(lucky to still have one of those really), and practises there in the day, but when they have tournies, it'll attract random non regulars who just trump them. And he won't travel further to practice more against better opposition, think he feels he's hit his plateau.

Are tournies in Britain mostly London based? I wouldn't mind going to one, not entering, just for the nerdism really, is there a list or anything of upcoming events? I should just google this, but eh ><

The only regular weekly event that I know of is in London yeah, called Winner Stays On. Its in HMV Gamerbase in Picadilly Circus I believe, every tuesday is Super Street Fighter 4 AE and every thursday is Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Has a live stream and info here

WinnerStaysOn MVC3 Weekly Tournament & Live Stream from London, UK | Shoryuken

I havent been to it but I'll probably go at some point in the future.

Theres a gamerbase in Manchester, but I don't remember there being much going on with fighters, I think Tekken was the thing they were promoting a tiny bit last I went and Tekken sucks balls. Might go in there again someday see if anythings changed on that front, but assume it'll still mostly be COD, BF, Starcraft etc.

My friend said they used to have a regular thing when he was in Uni at Leeds, but it got canned. So we'll probably make our way to that London one someday in the future.

I am 34 in about a week and still game a lot. I don't see the problem.

If I had a wife and kid then things might be different.

I was still playing games at your age. Probably a year or two older tbh. It's the whole 48 hours watching other people play games that seems a tad excessive.

A tad?? He should be locked up, the tool.

I love gaming and I'll probably do so when I get older as well but how can you enjoy watching other people game?

Just under 23,000 people watching Street Fighter on stream 1. And another 6,000 people watching stream 2 for Mortal Kombat.

I don't like watching most games, but I love watching pro Starcraft 2. It's just so far beyond what I can do myself, but I can understand the complexities of it. I'm a bit of a geek, though.

I also liked following the pro CS 1.6 scene back in the day, when I played it myself. I don't mind watching fighting games, but only if it's readily available. I won't go looking for it.

Starcraft 2 is quite popular. I expect some games to get close to 100k viewers during the MLG this weekend.

I loved playing SC 2 but I cant even imagine spending 20 minutes watching someone else play it. Same with FPS games

Fighting games are a lot more exciting

Yeah, some dude told me on live once all the money is in jushin.tv stream now rather than youtube commentaries, and SC2 always at the top of the gaming ones. I've just bought it myself from Asda for £20....not started it yet. But wanted to something to play on my mac and Blizzard always have their stuff working on it without ports so that's cool.

I guess it just comes down to what you enjoy really, it's not really any different to watching pro Poker really.....not that I expect games to be on sports channels anytime soon.
