Everton’s New Stadium | Bramley-Moore Dock

I'm torn between thinking it's got some character and is just another lifeless modern building.

Are there plans to deal with the wind?
The small roof opening I'm guessing helps alleviate it. The open looking side looks to be glass. Wonder what the shadow on the pitch is gonna be like though.

Didn’t even realise they were actually building one. Fair play, love seeing new stadiums and progression within the league

Probably answered already but what will happen to Goodison Park?

The club intends to demolish the old stadium and use the 3.39ha site for a mixed-use development, which will include 173 residential units, a care home, non-residential space for community use, shops, offices, food and drink outlets, with the necessary landscaping, access and parking provisions.

Everton stadium development and project manager Alix Craig has also affirmed that the new development will “maintain the legacy vision” of the club. She added the Blues are “deeply rooted in L4” and were keen to “maintain that connection” with the area.

Initial suggestions as to how the legacy will be preserved include keeping the historic entrance gates on the southwest side, ensuring the memorial plaques to former fans remain in place either side of the gate, and retaining the statue of Ralph ‘Dixie’ Dean on site.

Really not far off completion by the look of things.

Hope they stay up and get to show it off. You wonder how their home form will be impacted next season after the move.

We made the decision to not move until 2025 so it doesn't happen mid-season.

Still at Goodison next season.

Do they even have owners yet, administration incoming ? Seems like the stadium debt will be a noose around their necks for a while.

Really don't like it when teams are moving away from an iconic ground to yet another generic stadium which looks like every other one these days.

It's sad to leave Goodison but needed. Not sure if you've ever been there but if you have then you'll understand why!

Yeah, maybe it looks different in person but these new stadiums all do look pretty generic... though I suppose it's hard to capture an old-style ground in a new build.

I can't wait until Old Trafford is a soul-less bowl.

I've seen it from the outside but never been inside, no. Renovating and/or increasing capacity were not possible?

There are so many seats in the stadium which you're watching the game with a restricted view. Whether that's due to a massive fecking pillar in your way or the overhanging terrace. Seats are crammed in aside each other and it's just very old and worn. Expansion/renovation was near to impossible due to where the stadium is located too. It's a shame because it's a great stadium when it's rocking but we need to move to take advantage of financial and commercial opportunities that can hopefully propel the club forward. Moving up from 40k to 52k is a big boost considering the season ticket waiting list is huge/the demand is there + there is room to expand to 62k.

Nah it was a literal shit box.

Visited once for a europa league game a couple of years back it feels ‘authentic football’ but also dated and lacking any QOL aspects for the average fan.

Come to think about it, that what OT feels like too sometimes.

It looks really good from over the river. Not so good from the train on the Liverpool side but I don't think it was finished when I saw that.

Fair enough, it obviously makes sense if financial implications and other opportunities couldn't be achieved otherwise, just sad to see a ground like Goodison Park gone, especially given the proximity to Anfield. I mean, the Emirates is fine I guess but it's not Highbury, same with White Hart Lane - and West Ham leaving Upton Park is even worse if you look at London Stadium.

My first visit to Anfield was the only time I sat in the old Main Stand but it's incredible how they transformed that since then, which was also with small wooden chairs and pillars obstructing your view. I'm glad they decided to stick around.

Been there once and was stuck behind a pillar!

Edit, it was Rooney's first game back there after signing with us from memory. He got booted round the park, booed by everyone, and bagged two goals. How I miss those days!

The thing is, grounds have been developed that much over the years most don't resemble anything like they looked like originally anyway.

I'm a Rangers fan, who have another Archibald Leitch stadium, and I always hear the same comments as we well about how they would hate moving to a souless bowl etc.

But truth be told, it's only the main stand that's iconic because of the original architecture of that time. The other 3 stands look like bland 70's office blocks or that of the time, nothing really redeeming about them.

Same at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge. That already have stands that are dominated with large glass frontages like most newly build stadiums. Are the other stands that aesthetically pleasing that fans would loathe to lose them? How do the redeveloped stands at Anfield, compare to the originals over the years?
