Even Hovland

He had a broken leg ffs! And if prior injuries are anything to go by, we shouldn't have signed Van Nistlerooy.

Agreed. Sir Alex brought Anderson not long after he'd spent a while out with a broken leg.

I don't honestly know what to make of the transfer, never heard of him. However I'd never heard of De Laet and he hasn't let himself down when ever he has been called into first team action. In Fergie we should all trust as always.

Supposidly Ole recommended him, he hasn't done bad so far. Eikrem, King and Hussein all look very gifted.

He got injured late in the 2008 season, than broke his leg early next season. But if that's all it's a bit premature to call him injury prone, I agree.

He's seemingly first choice both for Sogndal (who finished fourth in the second tier, they would surely have won it if Hovland hadn't been out for most of the season) and Norway U21s.

A nice quote (from back in December); "Paul Scholes was the best of the lot. He controlled everything in training, and never made a single mistake during the entire session."

According norwegian paper Sunnmørsposten, Aalesund FKs Midfieldplayer Peter Orry Larsen, 20yrs, have also traveled to Manchester to train with United.
Larsen has been over several times in the past (14-16yrs old) allong with Eikrem. The Norwegian season are now finished and Larsen has hollidays to the start of January. The trip are arranged by Jim Solbakken(OGS agent and friend) and are ment to give Larsen some inspiration towards the new season in Norway. Aalesund FK are the Norwegian Cup Winners. Larsen is a Norwegian U21 player.

A fellow Sunnmøring, I gather ?

As a fellow Sunnmøring I'd like to add that I hope we'll never ever see someone from Ålesund at United. In fact, buying an Ålesunder is akin to being bought by the Glazers, or even worse. If OGS is a good Kristiansunder I'm sure he'll tell SAF to stay well clear. And ffs, you just know that someone called "Peter Orry" can't be any good.

Hovland wouldn't be the first Sogndal player in English football. Tore André Flo, Jostein Flo, Håvard Flo and Eirik Bakke come from Sogndal's youth setup, so they've quite an impressive history for a tiny town in Norway.

He's expected to sign Friday. Seems like a done deal.

Since you obviously know a lot about him, do you think that he has the potential to play regularly for us in the future?

It was said in the news a few minutes ago that he'll probably sign on Friday. They interviewed his agent (Jim Solbakken, also the agent of OGS, Mame, Eikrem, etc) and Sogndal's director. The reports are conflicting actually, so I've no idea if we're actually going to sign him, but his agent says there will be talks this time.

I don't know anything about him, but I can read Norwegian. People say his main asset is his physique, he's very strong and quick. Furthermore he's supposed to be composed and decent on the ball, and a down to earth lad. He was very highly rated when he was 18, after that he's struggled with injuries, but has recovered and regained his place in club and u21s.

Considering that Wes, Gaz, Rio and at a certain extent the Da Silva twins tend to pass a bit too much time in the treatment room, then a new defender would surely be a nice addition to the team. The Norwegian league is not amongst the best league in the world but had produced some decent defenders in the past.

You do get value for money from clubs like Sogndal ;)

If he does half as well as Ronny and Henning did for us then he will be a fine addition

Berg was half as good as Johnsen. If he is half as good as Johnsen then Im happy. If he is half as good as Berg.......

Hovland set for second United trial

Manchester United have invited Norwegian starlet Even Hovland to Carrington for a second trial period with the Premier League champions.
The 20-year-old Sogndal defender impressed boss Sir Alex Ferguson during his initial two-week spell in December and is set to undergo a medical this time around.

Sogndal director Egil Mundal told Norwegian broadcaster NRK: "Even has been offered a new trial for a few days.

Of course, we gave him permission to do that. We haven't received a serious offer for him yet though."

He's back in Norway after 4 days of training, physical tests and "talks with the management" (whatever that means) at Carrington, and while we're supposedly still interested, he'll remain at Songdal for the time being.

Bloody hell we've turned into some really wheeler and dealers... since we've got no money to spend. We sound like the new Fulham. Hopefully he's half decent.

Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign up Norwegian powerhouse Even Hovland after the youngster wowed him in two trials.

Goal.com UK understands that the 20-year old Sogndal centre-back “hugely impressed” the Scot at Manchester United's Carrington training ground. A medical was even carried out during his second period in England last month, although no formal agreement has been put in place.

United face a transfer scramble for the player whose combative performances have led to comparisons with Nemanja Vidic, with other Premier League and Norwegian clubs keen to land his signature.

A source close to the player confirmed to Goal.com UK that several Premier League and Tippeligaen sides are coveting Hovland, with Norwegian clubs able to buy him until the end of March.

He said: “Sir Alex Ferguson was hugely impressed by Even during his trials at United. The fact he was asked back again shows how well he did.

“I stress, no agreement has been reached between Sogndal and Manchester United and any move will have to wait until the summer transfer window opens.

“However, Sir Alex is not alone in holding an interest. A number of Premier League teams want him and Norwegian clubs want him now.

“The Norwegian transfer window is open until the end of March so something could happen there.”

Competitor | Hovland in action for Norway under-19s
Countrymen Henning Berg, Ronny Johnsen and reserve team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all excelled at Old Trafford. The trio lifted the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup 'treble' in 1999.

An eagle-eyed scouting department in Norway sees Magnus Eikrem, Josh King and recent signing Etzaz Hussein currently feature in United’s youth ranks.

If Hovland joins in the summer, he will arrive at the same time as £10 million signing and fellow centre-back Chris Smalling. The arrival of the young pair would set the platform for the next generation of United defenders with Vidic rumoured to be on his way to Spain or Italy.

The Norway under-19 and under-21 international, who was born in the tiny village of Vadheim, has racked up 88 appearances for Sogndal since joining the second-division outfit in 2006. He stands at an imposing 6ft 3in and is a dominating presence.

A broken leg ruled him out of most of 2009 Adeccoligaen campaign, but this didn’t halt Sir Alex's interest.

Hovland first came to England in December for a two-week period. This was followed up by another stint a week ago.

Speaking before the second trial, Sogndal director Egil Mundal told Norwegian broadcaster NRK: "Even has been offered a new trial for a few days.

"Of course, we gave him permission to do that. We haven't received a serious offer for him yet though."

At the moment it seems like he'll either go to Molde or to Anzhi! Anzhi will pay his club more and pay him a lot more, but he's a sensible lad and will make the move he feels is better for his career. Source. Solskjær has been after him since he went back to Molde and he really could do with another good centre back. I think the general opinion is that Hovland was the best defender in the league last season, but I didn't watch him a lot myself.

From reading back it seemed like we were really keen. Any clue as to what happened Laphroaig?

Not really, but I think he was injured for quite a while. And Smalling, Evans and Jones are better and will become better.

Paulsen Vatshaug had an exccellent and surprising season. Does the signing of Hovland mean that he'll be moved back to right back in 2012? Bugge / Rindarøy, Forren, Hovland, Vatshaug... Not too shabby. A clinical striker and they'll have a smashing squad.
