20 year-old Norwegian centre half, coming over on Monday for a week's trial according to several Noggie papers. Former national coach Nils Johan Semb labeled him as one of Norway's top young players some time ago, but since then he's had more than his fair share of injuries and last season was almost a total write-off due to a nasty leg break. I don't know too much about him as he's never played in the top div, but apparently he's a big, strong lad (190cm, 85kg) with a few u21 caps to his name.

Well he is just the sort of player the club seems interested on ie cheap.

Even though price may be used as a proxy for quality, it is by no means a perfect indicator of quality. If they are good enough then who is to say we shouldn't be looking at them just because they could be valued at less than our usual rip off prices?

It's always hard for scandinavian players profiling themself in the higher leagues. The league we're playing in is just not good enough and it's quite hard to make that big step whenever there's a talent being called on. There's of course a positive side to it, the fast adaption and the small ego/humble attitude. I would like to see more of the Vidic balls from scandinavian players in general, because all the attributes are there to enable them to play a far more physical game, and some players could have really dominated the game with ease.

Have I said that we shouldn't?

I only limited myself in saying that this is the kind of transfer which can happen because throughout the past 6 months we only aimed for cheap buys. The Hull's target, The Molde player and the Bordeoux most promising talent (erm but sold on cheap) are clearly examples of that. We do exploit this 'inflated market' by selling at big money but we seem to refuse to buy in a market which we exploited in the first place.

I can never say anything about the Hovland guy seens Ive never seen him play.

lest we forget that we picked up Ole and Ronnie Mushroomhead from Norway on the cheap. There are bargains to be had if you do your homework and take chances now and again.

Ronnie Mushroomhead was bought from Besiktas + it was a time when the Norwegian league was at a much higher level than it is now.

Correction, it was a time when Rosenborg were on a much higher level than now. The rest of the league (from whence Ole came) was very unimpressive.
True, the league is probably a fair bit better nowadays. And interestingly very few of the players that made a name for themselves abroad came from Rosenborg. (All the exceptions went to Liverpool; Leonhardsen, Bjørnebye, Kvarme and Heggem. And they weren't very good.)

And Carew, though that was a bit later.

Carew was not exactly a newbie coming straight from the Norwegian league though. His reputation and talent was rated as high as Zlatan Ibrahimovic's. Been a professional for years before coming to the english league :)

According norwegian paper Sunnmørsposten, Aalesund FKs Midfieldplayer Peter Orry Larsen, 20yrs, have also traveled to Manchester to train with United.
Larsen has been over several times in the past (14-16yrs old) allong with Eikrem. The Norwegian season are now finished and Larsen has hollidays to the start of January. The trip are arranged by Jim Solbakken(OGS agent and friend) and are ment to give Larsen some inspiration towards the new season in Norway. Aalesund FK are the Norwegian Cup Winners. Larsen is a Norwegian U21 player.

Hovland will stay in Manchester until Thursday. Not sure if it's because we need defenders to make up the numbers in training or because we like what we've seen so far. Peter Orry Larsen left yesterday. The both of them trained with the first team as well as the reserves.

Hovland has returned to Manchester today for talks, medicals and training with the first team, according to his agent Jim Solbakken.
"We'll have a talk and see what happens" said Solbakken.
Norwegian newspapers are talking about a deal around £1-2m.

Are we actually considering buying an injury prone defender from the Norwegian second tier? I've never seen him play (that I can remember), any noggies on here who have?
