Europa League Final | Atalanta vs Leverkusen | Match thread

He's basically just an Italian Moyes.

I'm a Moyes apologist but this is madness. Gasperini has a clear system, and I also think if it ever comes out that doping is rampant, his teams might well be "excelling" for that too.

Lookman has said he's been coached very well and learned a lot from Gasperini.
He's looked ace all match at everything he's done, not just the goals.

Leverkusen look like a team that needed the time and space and Atalanta have just covered the ground and dismantled them easily.

I fear Atalanta will be ripped hard in the summer. I already see PL clubs offering +£50m for Lookman, Ederson and Koopmeiners

Just tuned in. Pretty crazy to see Leverkusen losing 3-0 after being unbeaten all season. Well done to Atalanta

Surpising given Bayer great level whole season, but not that suprising given the level Atalanta had in this Europa League...the scoreline it's the most unexpected thing

Might actually watch this, haven't seen Leverkusen this season so curious to see them.

But I'm rooting for Atlanta, I'm a fan of Lookman so hoping he does well.

Very happy for him. I think he's underrated, I've posted a lot about him over the years, advocating for him over Hojlund and Sancho. He caught my eye a lot in that season he played for Fulham, depsite them going down.

Overall Atlanta have been excellent as a team and individually. Haven't given Leverkusen a sniff. Didn't realise Giasperrini has been there since 2016.. hasn't won anything yet so really well deserved for him.

So do Roma get the bonus Champions League place now since Atalanta will qualify as winners of this?

Only if Atalanta finish 5th in the league (in that case La Dea don't need the additional UCL spot given from UEFA because they'd qualify to the next UCL group stage as UEL winner.. that additional spot so goes to 6th placed Roma).
Still not so easy Atalanta end up 5th eh, if they win their game in hand they'd be 3rd so they must to bend over in the next Serie A games to help Roma

Been a pleasure to watch leverkusen this season

but an absolute credit to themselves this Atalanta team. The absolute epitome of teamwork, effort, desire..:and quality

Italy has supplied more EPL winning managers than any other country.

Yeah, Mancini Ancelotti Conte Ranieri the first that come in my mind (+ Di Matteo that didn't win PL but UCL with Chelsea If I remember correctly)

Scamacca was suspended in their italian cup final. Done well leading the line and holding up play. Nice assist for the third as well. Who would've thought having a striker was a good idea? Not Xabi Alonso. Hehe.

Hope Alonso learns from this and doesn't tinker as much with a winning formula going forward. He seemed to be too defensive at that start, rather than playing to they strength and controlling the game on the front foot.

They've just been genuinely outplayed though, there is no "overthinking" causing them to lose here, starting with a striker wouldn't have changed much.

But yeah, hope he learns from the experience.

That is because you have not followed him since he left that shit-hole
He was pretty average for Leicester too. And Fulham. Good to see he’s turned it around now, but he looked pretty uneventful from his time in the PL

Losing at last when the highest number of people who talk about bottling and hipster teams would be watching, Levekusen have done this to fuel discourse through the summer months.

Moyes teams have never come close to playing Atalanta's football

Moyes has a clear system too, Atalanta when I've watched them have been aggressive with the pressing and counter attacking, nothing special really. Moyes prefers to sit back and counter.

Gasperini is 66 and until tonight the most he's won is a manager of the month award.
He's now level on the trophy count with Moyes.

Moyes team are never as prolific as Atalanta

He scored loads for Atlanta last season, outscored Hojlund but of course a more senior player
