Europa League / Conference League 23/24

Bayer Lederhosen winning the Bundesliga and then immediately going out of Europe to Moyes's West Ham would be quite something

Moyes running into the cabin at half time... have to say, I don't like the way he sets up this teams most of the time and don't rate him that highly, but I absolutely love how passionate he is about what his teams do.

Honestly this has been a very impressive performance against the German champions. I can't ask for more than this. There is definately a more pressing style than normal, which makes sense given the context of the match.

I doubt BL will be as bad though in the 2nd half.

It's his cup final tonight

The league's gone? 2 whole points off City with 6 to play, and only 3 goal difference behind?!

Yea, it's gone. Six games to go, 2 whole points off City and 8 gd behind Arsenal, neither of whom have the CL to focus on.

This whole thing is really confusing. Villa look like they can take on City when they play in the PL and yet they don't really look anything special against the 4th placed French side. Leverkusen look like world beaters and yet West Ham are giving them a decent game.

Europa League / second-rate European competitions mean more to the smaller clubs, something we found out when we dropped into the competition even in the Fergie days.

Leverkusen spent the last 4 days drinking everyrhing East of the Rhine

Villa are 4th in the PL, playing Lille, 4th in L1, a peer. The PL may be stronger overall but the difference isn't so cut and dry across all teams and leagues. Plus Lille are more used to european competitions and there was probably also an element of surprise on Villa's part at their level

Also, league games are a completely different deal. Mentally they aren't nearly comparable to european KO games. Totally different level of pressure

Smaller clubs like Aston Villa

I obviously hope so, but think it's outrageously dim to be so cocksure. We just saw Arsenal throw away 3 points just like that.

Villa are a strange side in honesty, somehow they beat Arsenal home and away but lost to us home and away in the league this seaon.

Alonso reacts at half time, already did three subs. Now Frimpong and Boniface on the field. Let's see if they now get their shit together.

Well, Pep definitely shouldn't print out my post and display it in their dressing room saying the job's done.

Other than that, if I can't be cocksure on an anonymous forum in a title race where my team has no involvement and I've no interest except some obvious preferences due to football tribalism, when can I?

When it's properly been ruled out. Then we can all pretend we were certain it was fine.

Can see scousers scoring twice in quick succession, Atalanta not offering much so it's either hold out or bust for them. Terrible mind set, never pays off!

We haven't really done enough to threaten their goal tonight. Chances few and far between.

Leverkusen slowly getting into the game, but overall very entertaining to watch this

Dibu Martinez... what a guy. You can either love him or hate him, but, damn, when it comes to games like this you certainly want him in your team
It’s safe to say only his team, family and countrymen love him. I cannot see any neutral loving his antics. He takes shithousing to a despicable level.

Yeah, weird you haven't attacked more, Atalanta don't look sharp at all, you could have easily overturned the scoreline from the first leg if yous were playing half decent here

I find him hugely entertaining and would love him to be uniteds no. 1

He's under rated in this country because he plays for villa. How arsenal let him go I don't know he's twice the keeper they have

No point attacking if they can't finish the chances. Could've easily been level.

I’m not watching the game but in general Bundesliga seems to be far more open than Premier League. A lot of Germans teams have insane high lines and play out from the back almost always. Makes for fun watching but I can playing a Moyes team away from home as coming as a shock to the system.

Arsenal have a lot of form for that. I think all of Martinez, Fabianski, Leno, Szczesny have probably been better than the keepers they've actually kept at various times.

By now Leverkusen are much better in the game. And at the beginning it wasn't so much that they were tactically open, but individually just bad. Looked like some of them were still more or less drunk and Kossounou was so bad that he was subbed of after 30 minutes.

Have his legs gone? Doesn’t seem half the player anymore
It's been pointed out recently that he doesn't seem to perform well in these big title run in's but to me, he has slowed down a bit.

This is the second time he's come back from AFCON and looked off it.

Liverpool had 3 shots in 10 mins, then had another 6 in 65 more mins. How they didn't push on from the early goal is beyond belief. As if they're actively trying not to go through.
