Ethan Williams | On loan at Cheltenham

Seems to have gone a bit quiet with him but I think he's a very talented player, would love to see him get a good loan at a team chasing promotion in League 1 as long as they will play him. Having a link with a local team like Stockport wouldn't hurt either.

Good if he plays I guess. I'd have hoped he could do a bit better, but then I think Lingard started off with a loan in League 2 and impressing there helped him get more experience higher up shortly after.

I’d prefer if he never ever follows any of the paths Lingard took

The key at his age is to go to a place in mans football where he has an actual chance of regular game time if he applies himself and develops. IMO such a league 2 loan is good for him

I think we’ve learned a lesson in that it doesn’t help anyone if we loan players to higher level teams but they don’t play. Plenty of time to play in League One or Championship. The best scenario is that he absolutely smashes it in League Two for a few months and earns another loan at a higher level or an opportunity in our first team. Same goes for Ennis.

Elyh Harrison is a good example. Half a year impressing in National League North means bigger clubs are probably interested.

Not many negatives in a 4-month loan at a ”too low a level”.

Have we had any recentish loans to league 2 (or lower) where a player then made it in our first team?

I know Beckham went to Preston and played lower down a long time ago. But we've had lots of players go on loan to the lower leagues since then

Probably not apart from goalies. Then again we’ve been pretty bad at loans recently, we’ve had some seasons where we’ve barely loaned out anyone.

EW:
“I’m really proud. I really enjoyed my first day here and now I can’t wait to start playing games and get minutes under my belt.

“I always look to offer goals, assists and hard work. That fits the Club’s repertoire as the manager has alluded to me so hopefully I can do that.

“Personally I’m really looking forward to the experience.

Manager Michael Flynn:
“Ethan is a very talented player and he comes here now to add that bit of quality in the final third.

“There was a lot of interest in him so I’m really glad that we got it over the line.

“He’s a player that makes the keeper work when he gets into the final third, I’m excited to be working with him.”

You are of course correct, no idea why I thought Leicester were lower down the leagues at the time.
Leicester City were in League 1 for the 08/09 season. It was Tom Cleverley who went there on loan for part of the season. Lingard went there a couple of seasons afterwards when they were in the Championship.

You're right, I was thinking of Cleverley. And I still got the league wrong
