Should be understudy of AWB going into next season and send Brandon on loan
He's missed quite a lot of football over the last few years, if he stays fit I think we should consider loaning him again, he's only 19 so he's got time.

The impressive part is he can beat a man from a standing start.

I know Laird is meant to be confident about replacing AWB. I think it was Howson who alluded too it.

It was like watching Valencia. Standing still and then beat the player.

It's nice to have confidence and I would love it if he actually managed to replace AWB as a starter sometimes in the future, but he's long way off from being there. It would be nice if he actually managed to win a place for next season's squad here.

Great to see him doing so well. Hes certainly the type of RB I'd prefer to see starting for us. A little more defensive stability and a run of good fitness and who knows ey.

I’d honestly rather he just goes on loan to a Championship side next season. Players of his talent level need consistent game time, and I think he’d do better with a full season under his belt at another level up from League one to then challenge AWB in 2022/23.

Someone made a good Reece James comparison who went to Wigan, played 45 odd matches, won their POTY, and then came back and hit the ground running at Chelsea.

I’d love to see Laird do something similar.

On the minutes point: Brandon Williams is basically 2nd choice RB/third choice LB at the moment here and he’s only had 366 minutes this season. Tuanzebe is sort of 4th choice CB/3rd choice RB and he has about 510 minutes.

Laird (obviously much lower level) only joined in January and already has around 700~ minutes of senior football played.

Nice assist last night. Put it on the dish, served with garnish.

But substituted off on 64 mins. Dons away lost 4 - 2.

Looks like his acceleration from a standstill is very impressive, or was it just as sluggish defender?
Let's give him the benefit;the defenders are rapid in L1 but he's quicker  .

In all seriousness, they may not be as skilful lower down but physically there can't be much in it. Lads like Cash and Justin have come up from lower down and are quick as well as skilful

What I love about that goal is it’s “the Man City” goal that Luke Shaw has started to offer us from LB.

Beat the man with your movement or a dribble to the byline and cut back for a tap in.

He’s got a long way to go and I’d be inclined to say loan him to the championship next season to get a full season of men’s football under his belt . If he manages that then I reckon he’ll be ready to come into the fist team

How tall is Laird

Hard to say but Transfermarkt says 177cm. From what I can tell he's something between 175cm and 180cm. The interesting thing is that he's winning almost everything in the air, even at League One level. He has played CB for both United and England, and I remember him scoring from a corner from England U17 I think. So he's good in the air.

Cheers, he looks as though he's grown a few cms since the last time I watched him in the U23

My first thought is always that United players are better, faster, more technical and just superior allround to any other player in any league. More often than not, I find myself quite disappointed in the end, but by and large, I enjoy some good moments of ignorant bliss.

Agree that lower leagues often seem to compete quite well physically. It wasn't the case some years ago, but by and large that seems the case now. As for Laird, have not seen him play., hence me asking.

I wish this was true but he’s nowhere near yet. Today he’s done some nice stuff but has given the ball away a couple of times and been a bit too laid back a couple of times resulting in some sloppy touches. He needs another season out in my opinion.

Send him on loan next season to a Championship side. Then we will see after that. He needs to play

Don't think he will make it sadly. The jump from reserves football into the seniors is often underestimated regardless of the level.

What makes you think he won't make it?
Just a gut feeling from watching him play for Dons. They usually use him as a wingback or almost a right winger, which gives him the freedom to go forward. I'm not sure if he can play RB for us though, at this level. Him missing out on so much football over the last two years through injury doesn't help either, but I hope I'm wrong.

Matty Cash and James Justin played loads of games at Championship level before making the step up and have had excellent seasons. Max Aaron’s is another impressive in the championship. There’s nothing to suggest he won’t make it.

Still cannot tell if him or Dalot will come back in the summer and become AWB's backup or we will still look to bring someone in although starting to think it will be the former

These loans are way more worthwhile than sitting in the U23s at 19/20. He’s definitely going to come back a stronger player and he’s been in the shop window at a decent level which will give him confidence. Yes there’s a danger the clubs might not use the player and they waste 5 months but there’s not much doing being a big fish at u23s either way so it’s worth the risk. Championship loan next season. If he stays fit I’m certain he’ll keep stepping up and doing well. If he picks up another bad injury between now and the end of next season you’d imagine he’s probably missed his chance here through injuries stalling his progress. I hope he has the luck because he has the talent.

He's started every game for MK Dons since he moved to them on loan. But injuries have hampered his development over the last couple of years.
Ahh so he moved in Jan then? Cool. I just saw 4 appearances & thought what the hell. Makes sense.

That's not true either, he has started twelve games and has one sub appearance. He has started every game since his debut (a sub appearance) and not missed one yet. So good signs regarding his injuries.

How's his defending been, has it been improving at all?
Not bad today, hard to tell really as we had 70% of the ball yet managed to lose 3-0, none of which was his fault.

He also drove into the box late on and was cut down only to inexplciably be booked for diving.

Probably his best game for us so far.

I've seen some tweets from Wigan fans who thought Laird looked class for MK Dons.
