I certainly understand football recruitment more than you it seems, as you can't even tell that Dalot is a cheap first team signing. The amount of experience he had before that is irrelevant. He was not signed for the academy, so it means that he is a first team signing. That is a simple fact.

Do you really think I am going to waste my precious time proving wrong false perceptions like this ? Feel free to Google and tell me when was the last a 19 year old who played less than 5 games who was signed for first team from Portuguese league.

Just because you don't understand how these things work, doesn't make that as a fact. You can believe whatever you want but this will be my last post unless you have something concrete on this topic. Bye mate !

I fear for Laird not because he isn't talented , but because expectations from him are not fair. He has been injured a lot and it showed today in friendly. People should not expect impact like Greenwood had last season
I think you’re right; the expectations at this stage are too high and unrealistic.
He didn’t stand out in Saturday’s (yesterday’s) friendly at Huddersfield and I thought he was poor for a fair part of the game.
A shame, as it was a good opportunity to shine against better and more senior opposition than the U-23s usually play.

Praying that Laird fulfills his potential. He's the only one that can save us from the fun crushing force of nature that is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Great point. Is he 100% back from being injured? Hopefully he is just working into shape. With how he looked makes sense he didn't play in our Europa game. Still excited for his potential. Also don't understand the AWB hate in the is thread he has been a huge upgrade to the squad and should only get better. For the AWB haters might be time to become Inter fans and root for Ashley Young...

Yes, because we aren't sold on a player with clear deficiencies to his offensive contribution, aspects of the game that are crucial to fullbacks in today's game, we should support another team. Good stuff

What are you on about?

He was signed to be part of the first team squad. He just didn't kick on.

Well, may be you should be the one who should take a hard look at AWB and see how can he improve upon his shit show on the ball. I have seen enough of him and has been telling this from the moment he was linked to us.

Non sense post ? sure, feel free to call whatever you want but I will stick to my point. Shame me later if I am wrong.

Dalot just played 4 senior games and I would never call that as a cheap signing. It was an investment. Lets not argue for the sake of it.
What??

He was an investment, period. We paid for his potential.
A 19 year old player who just had 4 senior experience in Portuguese league is never a first team material for United. Can't believe I am arguing this.

Is this the Laird thread or not? Take the arguing somewhere else.

He has an explosive movement for a right back, but his defensive skill is still raw, like a winger playing RB position (Valencia vibe).
Tbf, Devine had a better performance than him last night.

There is nothing to argue or prove here, and the only one wasting time here is you with your stupid arguments when you seem to not understand simple facts. You keep bringing up the fact he played 5 games and that he is 19, but that is all irrelevant to the fact that he was brought for the first team. He was not signed for the academy, nor sent on loan immediately, which means that he was a first team signing. That is a simple fact, no matter how many stupid arguments you try to make. He went straight into the first team.

And as for signing young players for first team, we had Rafeal, Fabio, Ronaldo etc. who were 18 when we signed them for the first team. And I did not need Google for that either, that is just off the top of my head.

I may not have the most knowledge, but I can confidently say I do know more than you and can understand simple facts better than you. The one making things up is you, I am not the one believing whatever I want to believe, to suit their narrative. Dalot is a first team player, that is a fact. And yes, please stop posting, as you bring nothing of value here when you can't even seem to understand simple things like who is a first team player for us and who isn't.

Well then you should just go back and check again my point. If you are not sure about my original point, why bother giving an irrelevant statement to my post? Just wasting time.

I don't care about your original point, nor is it relevant. I was addressing specific points in your posts that were either stupid or baseless or both. So far you have not added anything new to that other than making more nonsense up rather than refute them, and wasting my time. I mean, it is a wonder how you got promoted with shit posts like these and inability to understand the most basic of facts.

Seriously the hate towards AWB needs to stop.

We bought a player, we know what he is, he is improving his output.

Give him a go next season, see if he can improve that, not just give up on the player and call him trash.

Since we're talking about other players I recommend convert James to RB and Chong to LB

For the nth time, you can't read, you can't comprehend and you can't argue in a civilized manner. When you run out of arguments of facts, you just go personal. So spare me dude. Got much better things to do.

You have an ironic lack if self awareness, as those are all things that describe you better than anything.

I missed most of the game yesterday how did he play? , I can't seem to find any comments on his performance just people banging on about Dalot and AWB.
Laird? see post #83.
Not that impressive and defensively poor at times.
Bacuna walked all over him in the first half. He was better in the 2nd half though.
Garner had to come over and help him out a few times.
Hopefully we’ll see better from Laird as the season progresses.

This was a game against a first team Championship side. Men against boys and all that and Huddersfield were allowed to kick the shit out of our lads, with no protection from the ref, so we did well to get a 3-3 draw.

Wasn't as sharp as usual. Had the right idea a lot of times, and didn't exactly have a great attacking partner to work with either. We had a lot of midfield talents on the pitch.

He did okay, but for the first time it looked as though his on-going injury problems were playing on his mind, he didn't get forward as positively as he normally does but that may also have been a fitness issue and him worrying about getting back. If he put in that performance midway through the 23s campaign where he'd been fully fit since the start you'd worry for him not reaching his potential, but he'll be fine.

It would probably help him if he got better protection from the Refs who seem to let to much go at that level as he is being targeted, as Big Ron would say put a couple of 'Reducers' in early to see if he likes it and nearly all the teams do it now because thy know they will get away with it.

A loan move(somewhere in Holland ideally)will be more beneficial to him that playing for the 23s who can go 4/5 weeks without a game.

Seeing this guy's name a lot in the Reguillon thread so gave him a Google.

Wiki says he joined you in 2017 (making him 15 or 16 at the time). Where was he before? Must've been at some clubs academy, right?

No, he has been with United since he was 9 I think.

Wiki basically says every player joins at 16. It’s terrible for youth info and just goes off the date they joined the u18s as that’s when the club starts to publicly recognize them.

Not for Chelsea players, it says Mason Mount and Tammy joined the academy in 2005 and 2004 for example.

I guess the Man United wiki updaters are a bit lazy!

I have seen him and Greenwood in United shirt playing for our U12s in a tournament in Spain many years ago.

I haven't watched any of the youth games to see his talent for myself.

For the guys who have watched him, how many games do you think he will play this season for the 1st team? Will he get a run out in the early rounds of the cups?

Who knows. I was surprised Ole didn’t play him against LASK so don’t want to predict now. A lot of these things also depend ok injuries. That said, he’ll certainly be in mind to give a chance to sooner rather than later, he has been seen as one of the biggest talents in our academy for years, he and Greenwood have always been best in their class.

There's a lot of talk about this guy. Maybe he's the next youth product who'll get his chances this year?

Few people are saying he's heading out on loan, I was hoping he'd be back up to AWB this season.
I was hoping the same. Maybe it’s a sign we are actually bringing in a LB and moving Williams to back up AWB.

I don't think he will get the chances this year, he is better of going on loan.

Last season, the younger players got a chance because of the Europa, apart from the league cup, I cannot see how Laird will get his chances.

Williams, TFM, Dalot are all ahead of him at the moment.

Is he ready to step up? I have only seen a few youtube videos but many speak highly of Laird. I wonder whether his injury record is what is holding Ole back. Growing pains can be a bummer.

Lots of injuries with him, that must be a worry. On the other hand, sometimes they grow out of it.
