ETH: "We need new players and quality players. We will try and convince them to join." | Mirror: ETH believes FDJ will join Utd over Chelsea

"United need evolution not revolution"....reality is a bitch ain't it?

Well, there is a reason we pay ridiculous wages. I would assume the players are asking the same questions until they get a pile of cash thrown at them.
That is why the problems have built up. We should have just gone for a different profile of player instead of quick fix money grabbers.

Andy Mitten suggested that Ten Hag needs to convince De Jong to join, face to face

Ten Hag needs to sell that in the next couple of days. Offer to build the team around him and explain how he’s going to get United back to winning things despite the poor start

Think post SAF buying players to develop didn't work as we just didn't have managers or coaches to do it. Thought LVG might, but he seemed to have lost the will to do it any longer. Jose was never going to no matter what guff he came out with. Ole just wanted to keep his job and any kids that were used was more down to needs than any policy he had.

Yea kinda, if United tax is huge and real, what else, going around getting players on 2 year loans with obligation to buy, targeting specifically free agent market and pre planning ahead, whispering in agents ears 2 years before contracts expire, tapping player, dunno. Not to mention whole wage structure, whole thing is a mess.

Is it really on him? Are the people on the top saying these players are good and a better coach will fix them ?

I really believe that this is the mentality at the top. No one is willing to assume big sales or big purchases. The example is Ronaldo, we needed half a club, SAF, Giggs and Cantona to stand in line and beg him to stay.

Think we should have been looking ahead and testing the water with players before their contracts are ready to expire. Bayern have no problem doing that. This should have been the policy years back before we let it spiral out of control. That first transfer window with Moyes set a lot of things in motion.

I don't entirely blame Erik for giving these players a chance. He's used the preseason and these opening games to assess them, and now he is fully justified to replace any of them with a number of potential replacements. He's seen how shite they are for himself. I'm sceptical that we will actually go out and get the players needed, because recent history tells us that we are not amazing during the transfer window.
I do. How can he be a 'great' coach and not have noticed how bad the team is?
I still do not like Fletcher being involved or SAF etc being asked for their opinions. You need a modern view of football, not one from years gone by.
I have fantasy that the Glazers come in and fire the entire management, top to bottom, and replace them with practically anyone.

So we need 8 new starters and have what 14 days to get it done? 500 mile ought to do it.

Convincing them will be ten times difficult after those games. Not only are we not in the CL we don't even look sure for top 4. Anyone joining has to accept the possibility of no CL this year or next. If we put the foot on the gas earlier we could have sold them on a project. The best case scenario for anyone signing is helpng us to CL qualification.

That's why nothing will change. Even if we spend and get some decent players in, at best we will get top 4 in a couple of years. Nothing beyond that. You need huuuuuuuuge changes from the owners to the rest, to get competent people in charge. To first get a plan rather than take it week by week.

We are fecked. For the foreseeable future.
If we work really hard, maybe we'll get to top 4 in a few years. By the time we do that, I hope the spoiled rotten Utd fans appreciate it.

And ideally sack themselves right after. One can dream...

Did Ten Haag say the OP quote during the post match interview?

If he wanted the position players he supposedly wanted then he did know there were problems and we have not delivered on a lot of them.

Great stuff from that idiot Murtough. Now everyone knows we’re absolutely desperate. What a mess that has been created here.

SAF left in 2013, it’s not a bygone era. It was two years before Klopp joined Liverpool! A season and a bit!
If anything his ability to get the best out of ordinary players surrounded by class players is how modern football is ideally played

A EL league trophy win would fast track that.

Hate to point this out if you haven't noticed -- they own Manchester United.

But for whatever reason, the club has been taken over by a bunch of grifters imo -- players and management. They need to be thrown out on their ears.

Those managers will have the players that can play the system they chose to play. They might not be world beaters, but they are hard working.
I know the meaningless friendless in pre season were nothing more than that, but i actually got the feeling the players gave a feck, and really tried to adapt to the new ideas. Even a lazy sod like Martial were doing actual sprints to close down oppos and make himself available for a pass. And now it feels like we`re back to that dejectedness we had for large parts of last season. Can`t for the life of me figure out whats happening in the team.

I get not condemning in public part. But then in transfer he and Murtough should have shown more urgency and shrewdness. Only Malacia looks promising. Eriksen had passed it when spurs sold him. He can be a sub max. Then martinez is wrong man in EPL. All three players were signed because ETH wanted them. He has to take responsibility and share the blame.

I still hope that ETH learns quickly and help improve the performance. I like him and give him a better squad he can be really good.

i don't think the recruitment aspect can really be blamed on Ten Hag, he has come to a new team and a new league with a group of dysfunctional players who on paper should perform far better than what they are. From speculation he wanted timber, anthony, nunez, eriksen, malacia,de jong and there has probably been a few more names thrown about since he has joined but we have failed to get even half of the players he wanted. He said in preseason that its ideal to get players in early which our club hasn't done for him, our scouting department seems useless so the chance of a back up plan to key areas probably wasn't arranged so we either had to get first choices or nothing. We allegedly agreed a deal for Rabiot this time last week and still haven't officially signed him, it shows how slow we are at actually getting deals done so i feel Ten hag shouldn't be criticized in regards to recruitment.

Robbo isn't though.

It is weird.

Yea, think i would try that path, if they fecking us on transfer fees, invest in network of poachers and prep terrain for players expiring contracts and if we decide to pay for a transfer, target young unprove hungry players before they make that jump to middle club like ( right on top of my head, Savic move to Lazio from Belgium, think they paid some 11mil or so for him). This whole buying mercenaries that play piano on 300k wages aint working for us and like i said, current wages on contract extensions placing us in shit position for newcommers.

Ralf wasn’t lying. 10-11 new players. Very few if any of this squad will be present if/when we become successful again.

Gary Neville said we only have 40m in the back compared to 300m

I don't think the money is there mate, nor the willingness to raise it.

If they don't find the money, and fast, they will be owners of a Championship club at this rate.

At this stage nothing more than a total clearout will suffice. That means going with the young lads and potentially struggling badly for 2/3 seasons but if we don't, we can forget about winning trophies anytime soon
I do agree with you that a clearout is needed, but throwing kids in to accomodate that isn't the answer. We don't have the patience for that as a fan base. People are already starting to ask questions of the manager after 2 games.

We need the owners of this club to take some responsibility and actually facilitate us to make some signings. If they're not prepared to do that they need to sell up. We've already lost a huge amount of players without replacing them this summer, we can't afford to keep writing seasons off like this.

And they said ole was the problem……
Oh he was. Itl take many many weeks to get these guys in a system. They've been used to doing feck all in pressing for a lifetime with Ole.

We’ve been comfortably one of the worst teams in the Prem for a few years now. Finally we are starting to prove it.

And they said ole was the problem……

Well this rot did set in under him and he spent years and huge sums of money putting a lot of this squad together. He’s a big contributor to why we are where we are, along with a number of others.
