ETH presser v Omonia 11:30bst with Bruno Fernandes - "Thank you for the lesson Pep" ten Hag

Except the manager can't exactly find him a new club can he? No one made an offer. Yes we said he wasn't for sale but I doubt we wouldn't have considered an offer if one came.
There was a very lucrative Saudi offer. Failing that, we could have paid part of his wages and let him leave on a free to anywhere.

I don't understand how he seemingly links the loss at Brentford to McTominay not being on the pitch. Did he not see his cameo when he brought him on!? Feels like a very simple way of looking at football. Either that, or he's not feeling Casemiro and is making up any old shite to justify his omissions.
It’s almost like he’s giving a press conference and knows the media will pounce on anything to undermine him. Weird!

Had the same thoughts after the City game. People have to be patient with this team despite the other years of requesting patience.

For ETH, its a new league where the system he has previously used in the past, may not be able to translate exactly like what he did in Holland. It may require a few tweaks to be good for the premier league, so analyzing those elements in relation to the squad we have as well, may take some time. Pep had to make tactical tweaks after his first season, this is where we started seeing him invert both full backs. Klopp moved to a 433, choosing to focus less on long passing to get the ball up the pitch and instead doubling down on gegenpressing at Liverpool. Conte started at Chelsea with a 433, but quickly learnt how effective a 343 would be in the Premier League ( he got lucky too in that City were transitioning and the rest of the league was weak, plus he already had a titlewinning team).

Essentially, ETH will need to time to implement his tactics and may alter things to suit the Premier League. This may lead to formation changes, tactical tweaks and even a different style of play. It's a process to ensure both the learning and the implementation of the right principles occurs, and its something other teams have had to deal with over the years. Unfortunately for United, despite our years of wildnerness, we have never actually gone through this type of process in the past due to the stubborness or reactiveness of some of our managers. LVG stubbornly decided not to tweak his system despite how ineffective it proved to be in breaking teams down, which is why he failed. Mourinho and Ole decided to be reactive more than proactive, so did not really bother in creating a system. Moyes was completely inept. So despite the fact that patience has been requested, it was never worth the risk until now.

No questions about the EL oppoenent.

feck me these lads need to be told that CR7 questions are not allowed anymore.

18 minutes nearly of Ronaldo and Mancity

for real, it’s getting nauseating. They’re so desperate to get a Ronaldo snippet it’s getting pathetic at this point. I’m surprised ETH isn’t just rolling his eyes at every question

What's wrong with it? It's in context and also slightly attributable to a man using a second language.
Reminds me of when Klopp and Pep shakes hands at the end of a match, it's too friendly and nice. There are already too many nerds in football, we need more bitter managers who never accept defeat. Jose would have poked a few eye balls out, Clough would have punched Haaland. When we lost 6 - 1 with Fergie, he blamed the red card and insisted we played the better football(All correct statements).

Hopefully in our next match against City, Ten Hagg will bring one of those prank electric hand buzzers.

What is annoying about this season so far has been how oblivious the media and pundits have been in assessing our squad.

1. Ronaldo - The Ronaldo discussion has been ridiculous. He missed preseason on the basis of being unprofessional , feeling another club could snap him up because he wanted Champions League football. He's still clearly not match fit and at his age, that is a massive problem. His performances have been poor so far and his lack of pressing due to his age are a massive problem for us at the moment. Fergie would not have accommodated him. Personally, I've never bought into the notion of him being able to play as a lone striker. Juventus did not do this with him, which is why he was able to perform decently for them. Last season, I felt he hogged a position that he may not exactly know how to play despite his goalscoring record and that was part of the reason we were poor during Ole's part of last season. I honestly feel we would function better in the team if he was moved back out wide or played in a 2 man attack, something his performances don't warrant us to accomodate at the moment.

2. Rashford - I can't understand how he won the player of the month award. He wasn't great in any of our performances. His performances have proven that he has no business in the no.9 position, yet pundits are talking like he's getting back to who they think he should be, which is not the case. Players like Martinez, Varane, Eriksen and even Sancho have been better than him, yet he is the one who got nominated for and won the player of the month award for the league. Weird.

3. Maguire - Fans and media all know he's been exposed, yet there is still a need to paint a picture of him being repressed. It's clear that Ole made a mistake in signing him and making him captain. He's not a bad player, but he's not good enough to start for United either, and that is becoming clearer every day. It's not our job as a club to help England win the world cup and give Maguire confidence, yet some pundits are acting like we are not supporting him at the club

If it gets us results like Pep and Klopp get, I'll take it. That being said, ETH doesn't strike me as the friendly type at all.

Sounds as if the Ronaldo thing is a whole lot of nothing. A hugely competitive guy was annoyed at not playing against City but is training well and wants to play more games. Oh the controversy!

Zero respect by the media for the opposition. Not a single question about them or what they are capable of. Either way, the Ronaldo obsession is nauseating.

Not doing more to jettison Ronaldo during the summer was a mistake from EtH. We would have been in a significantly better position now if we'd managed to replace him with a new striker.
There was a very lucrative Saudi offer. Failing that, we could have paid part of his wages and let him leave on a free to anywhere.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that EtH came under pressure from higher up (even the very top) to keep Ronaldo at Manchester United, even though he probably didn't want to. Had he not been new into the job himself he might have been able to be more proactive in moving him on by telling him he would hardly get a lookin this season (Carabou Cup maybe FA Cup to give rest to other players) he would have probably bought out his own contract if he had been told that!

Having Ronaldo at the club is a reminder of the glory days from 16-17 years ago and ironically it was the legendary Manager from back then, who influenced him to return.

It’s just to stop people asking questions. If you say the truth journalists then attack you for saying that he’s not playing because he’s shite.

Exactly. There’s only so many ways to tactfully imply he’s over the hill and a detriment to the team without actually saying he’s over the hill and a detriment to the team. We should expect Ten Haag’s reasons for freezing him out to get even more bizarre if he keeps getting asked the same stupid question every week all season.

Ten Hag isn’t here to make friends or be a media darling. I enjoy it when football managers are prickly in their press conferences and post match interviews.

ETH “thanking Man City” for beating us is just theatre, it’s his way of showing the players that he demands more.

The Ronaldo sideshow is just that, a sideshow. He doesn’t fit into ETH’s system or plans. But the manager is diplomatic with his answers. He isn’t just going to say “I think Ronny’s legs have gone so I won’t play him.”

The very best managers are always eccentric. Pep, Klopp, Tuchel - love or hate them, are often weird in their interviews yet they’re the best coaches in the game.

I like ETH and think he will do a fine job here if given the time, patience and resources. I actually missed having a grumpy manager. Sir Alex was usually defensive with the press and rightly so.

We don't really know the details. It sounds like there weren't any CL teams in for him, but is that because they didn't want him at any price or he didn't want to lower his salary to leave? There were reports they were open to letting him go in August, but the options available may only have been let him go on a free to a CL club while subsidizing his wages or to keep him. There was the offer from the Saudi team but I doubt Ronaldo had much interest in that. I think the club would have snapped their hand off for a £20 million fee and another £20 million off the wage book.

Why should we subsidise his wage playing elsewhere? As long as he wears a MU shirt, even siting on bench, he can sell shirts. I can understand the logic on Sanchez, but why should the club pay him twice, once to Juventus and twice to his next club.

Waiving fee is 1 thing, subsidising someone to leave is another, probably making us the biggest laughing stock. Jones is perhaps the exception, Maguire & AWB debatable.

p.s. I had doubt when CR re-join MU, as he was too old, so never thought it was a good idea all the time.

If Chelsea came in with a 20m bid, I am sure we would have sold him without a blink. Only Porto came in with a genuine suggestion, such as taking him on a free, and paying him normal wage, which means either CR willingly cut his wage by 2/3, or MU subsidize his wage.

It seems strange that no-one, including ETH himself, criticise his tactics. ETH very much started his Best 11 against City, perhaps his most aggressive option, with 5 attacking minded players, just McTom covering his ass. This formation is perhaps appropriate against bottom half clubs, and home against top half clubs, but should we repeat the same away to City? We are not talking about Not-ready Liverpool, or Naive Arsenal, we are talking about a well-oiled club with some new teeth, very much in form.

My point is, should we go to City with a more cautious plan? Park a mini-bus perhaps. You can do so with 2 approach, relying on the same 11, but issue instruction such as 8 of you never cross the half-way line before 40th min, or put in an extra MF at the expense of attacking player. Players in mind would be Fred or even VDB.

I read an article criticising Antony for not following defensive duty instruction, come on, ETH should have known Antony for years, better than anyone else.

The medias are asking Ronaldo question is nothing new because it is Ronaldo. It's a big name, which is attracting people (not just United fans) when they see Ronaldo's name appears on the title news.

We have alot of mediocre players including Bruno himself.
If such players played for Madrid or City, every effort would be made to get rid and replace. We seem happy with mediocrity which is why the near future isn't rosy.

Why? Like I said. To get rid of him. Selling extra shirts doesn't get us anything. In fact we earned less from Adidas after signing Ronaldo.
