ETH presser v Omonia 11:30bst with Bruno Fernandes - "Thank you for the lesson Pep" ten Hag

Ten Hag on Manchester derby
"It was a difficult day. We will analyse, it was a reality check, we need to learn from it and carry on."

Ten Hag on Varane, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and Van de Beek
"Not available for tomorrow. In case of Raphael [Varane], I have good hope [back soon], Harry will take a little bit longer and the other two I cannot give [update]."

Fernandes on armband
"The responsibly is playing for this massive club, we are all feeling it, and we have to share that. It does not matter who wears the armband on the pitch."

Ten Hag on Ronaldo
"I can't see that relation, that he is not coming on when we are 4-0 down, I did not bring him on out of respect. It has nothing to do with the future or January. I don't see him as unhappy. He is happy, training well and enjoying."

Ten Hag on City defeat
"You will have setbacks. We beat Arsenal, we beat Liverpool, Sunday we had a bad day at the office. City were better, we have to accept that, but we can't accept our unacceptable performance."

Fernandes on the process
"We start this season with a project, it's clear we want to make a standard with the manager, an idea of play and everyone has to be on the same page. The Premier League is not that easy, we need to be at that high standard. We had those four consecutive wins, and now we have this setback, but it hasn't changed our ideas, our way of play and what we want to do as a team. I think it's a process. We have had three months with the manager, the team is doing well. Its tough, because it's a derby, but now is the time to get back and win tomorrow."

Fernandes on Sunday mistakes
"We had a meeting, we went to see the tough things, our mistakes. After the game I said, we conceded three goals on the counter against a team that plays with possession. We could have avoided that - we didn't. We know the mistakes and we can't repeat them again."

Ten Hag on Man City again
"That's what you always do [tweak], you take respect of the opponent, but we will stick to our philosophy and principles. We can get a lot of confidence from beating Arsenal and Liverpool, but now we get a reality check with Man City. So thank you for the lesson, Pep and City. We have to understand, we have to do things much better."

Too much City talk

Ten Hag on Casemiro
"We will play tomorrow our best team, we have to construct a team because we want a competitive culture. It had nothing to do with Casemiro, it had all to do with Scott. When he wasn't in the team at Brentford, we lost. "Casemiro have an important role, we know his background, the titles he's won, you see every day in training."

Ten Hag on Ronaldo
"He's not happy that he didn't play Sunday, don't get me wrong, but the question was about his mood in training, where he's happy. Of course, he wants to play and he's p***** off when he's not playing."

Ten Hag on Ronaldo again
Ten Hag was asked about keeping him on the bench out of respect.

"It's always about, you live by the day, you line up the strongest team you had, but there are differences and no one is the same in the team. I treat everyone with respect, but they have all different backgrounds, so I have to treat players to get the best out of them."

Ten Hag continued on Ronaldo
"When you are here, when you are happy, satisfied on the bench, this is not the club you have to be. Cristiano is really competitive, he is not happy when he is not playing, but I have to repeat, maybe you didn't hear, he is training well, he is in a good mood, he is motivated and he gives his best and that is what we expect."

The Ronaldo obsession in the media is soooo boring.

I don't understand how he seemingly links the loss at Brentford to McTominay not being on the pitch. Did he not see his cameo when he brought him on!? Feels like a very simple way of looking at football. Either that, or he's not feeling Casemiro and is making up any old shite to justify his omissions.

It is but his name still brings in those delicious klicks so we have to suffer it for the time being. All the more reason to get rid of him at the first opportunity though.

Can't wait for him to go tbh. The circus surrounding him just doesn't warranty the performances he puts out anymore.

I think McTominay is there as an insurance policy more than anything, we've not got any height in the team whatsoever. That and Casemiro looking super sloppy in his cameos so far.

Good presser, I like bruno saying how they analysed us conceding 3 goals from counters. Think EtH will have highlighted how wasteful we were and rushed in our passing. I think (and hope) that the city game becomes an important lesson learnt.

I suppose they can't just come out amd say "we're individually not good enough" but its the truth and all this "we'll learn from it" is just noise.

We've taken many batterings over the last few seasons. If there was a lesson to be learned it would have happened by now.

Yes I noticed it too, we probably hoped we'd be countering a few times yet they had the possession and flying counters. A light midfield with midfielders and attackers giving away the ball too readily with Haaland waiting, he can be found easily and run and stretch for balls.

Something very strange going on with players who have just dissapeared and we can't get an update on.

I defitnitely like his attitude in pressers. The whole thing is about a process of learning a system and we are only at the very beginning of it and he talks about being pragmatic but the ultimate goal is to achieve the style he wants. It may take another season after this but its the first time I feel like we are on a road to somewhere good as long as the board back the process.

I couldn't give a feck about top 4 this season, only that ETH is allowed to replace the players he wants within reason. Honestly EL should be the main goal for getting CL this year.

Probably sounded better in ETH head

Europa League will be very difficult to win this season too. Possibility of Atletico, Barcelona, Ajax, Leipzig, Juventus, Sevilla/Dortmund dropping into it. Maybe even Chelsea and Spurs too. Arsenal already there of course.

Oh definitely. I'd like to think we can beat any of those teams on our day though, and hopefully by then we are a team much more closer to what ETH wants. To be honest I never expected CL next year and I don't think you need it but, like Arsenal, what you need is for the club to identify the right players to come in to play the style needed. Arsenal didn't need CL for this and hopefully with a year done at the club ETH will know which players are incapable of playing how he wants. Hell even before he got here he had already made a decision on Maguire, AWB, Shaw (although he actually has the ability) and more, so I'm not concerned that he won't be militant in getting rid of who needs to go. Ultimately I truly believe he wants us to play more like his Ajax team did and that we'll see that eventually once he's given the time and resources to do so. However I do think that the current team will improve as the season progresses too. We've had a very tough fixture schedule to open the PL this year. The gap for the Queen's death didn't help either in terms of playing an amazing City team.

Roma are in it too. We have no right to demand the EL this season. It looks even more competitive than the CL if these teams go down.

top 4 and a domestic trophy is our only realistic target.

You seem to ignore the reason those teams look like dropping down is that they are playing absolutely dreadfully.

Running a bit thin on defenders at the moment. Can't afford to pickup anymore injuries back there.

I just don´t see how this Ronaldo issue wasn´t foreseen? It was always going to bite us in the ass.

Were there any questions on Ronaldo?

Dont understand Casemiro bit, is the best team with him in it?

We were playing well with McTominay so why drop him? I think ETH wants to play McTominay out of the team or play Casemiro into it.

If he just drops Scott it will create a bad atmosphere in the dressing room so he needs to make it seem like Scott has to be dropped.

Makes sense. I think Scott played himself out of starting 11 on Sunday. If Casemiro doesnt start on Thursday he'll surely start against Everton.

If we can keep our strongest team fit then we can beat all those teams.
Yes we got spanked by City, but they are the best team in the world right now.

Can we talk about how extremely weird it is to say he didn't play Ronaldo out of respect?

The University of Manchester United.....where we are always learning, all the effin time.

Those happened without ten Hag, I’d expect that he would be the one receiving and, later, conveying that lesson. We’ve bounced back from the disastrous start of the season already.

I think he's trying to be as evident that Ronaldo's his last choice and he'd much rather have another forward option, but without saying as much.

I'd love it if he doubles down and keeps getting more hilarious.
Next week: "I think we heard him rip one on the bus, and you know when you have a player of that quality, who puts in that much to take care of himself even at this age and this level, you can't risk him getting indigestion during a match. The world can't know that Ronaldo farts."

Can we talk about how extremely weird it is to say he didn't play Ronaldo out of respect?

It’s not so much weird as a thinly disguised attempt to justify not bringing Ronaldo on while still pandering to his ego. I think it is quite smart but only as a holding tactic, since the saga will run on a little longer yet.

Not doing more to jettison Ronaldo during the summer was a mistake from EtH. We would have been in a significantly better position now if we'd managed to replace him with a new striker.

I am not sure I agree with that. Ole didn't have the tactical nouse to 'learn lessons' from Pep- I think ETH does.

Except the manager can't exactly find him a new club can he? No one made an offer. Yes we said he wasn't for sale but I doubt we wouldn't have considered an offer if one came.

Sunday's loss was an important lesson for the bigger picture. No use pretending we're not miles away from where we need to be. Hopefully Erik is good enough and backed enough to get us there. We move...

No questions about the EL oppoenent.

feck me these lads need to be told that CR7 questions are not allowed anymore.

18 minutes nearly of Ronaldo and Mancity
