Erik ten Hag's interview

"The material always determines how you play, but I indicate the requirements that come with it and the standards. I tell who has what task and anyone not living up to it will be told that, regardless of who it is.

"I make no concessions in that regard.”

Love this part.

One spoke from experience and one was Ole. I'll let you figure out who is who.
You're all missing my point.

Talk is cheap, weve seen a lot of talk from Jose too before his first game.

Good point. I'm choosing to be more optimistic about Ten Hag's words.

We are now Erik's hags

Yeah you can already tell which of the reports were accurate. He doesn't even mince his words. He demands transfer involvement and won't bend to names. The Ronaldo part is especially blunt. Like Rangnick where they tell the truth without bother for anyone's feelings.
Being direct and blunt is the dutch way.

This bodes well for a team being greater than the sum of its parts. It doesn’t bode well for a dressing room like ours. This should be interesting.

possibly the main reason I’m excited about this appointment.

Ah the good old Dutch arrogance.. thankfully Ten Hag is not as arrogant as LVG and in normal dosage this is a good thing actually..

We've been burned so many times before. Not falling for the hype yet. I'll reser4ve any judgement/assessment until next season. Not to labour the Maguire point but if he's still starting and the captain next season, Ten Hag won't be getting much credit from me.

For sure but Ole more gave us the sappy romantic stuff that all United fans lapped up at the time. "Playing the United Way" "Exciting attacking football" and the good ole days etc. which we were desperate to hear after years of LvG and Jose putting us to sleep.
He did worse, he mugged off the previous manager by saying United should never settle for second.

Shoots straight from the hip. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Even Ole said some good things before he joined to be fair.

I remember when he talked about us becoming the hardest working team in the league, that we would have the best fitness. I was so excited.

Was the Ajax PSV final a close game? Surprised Ajax lost that one.

Either way, I'm feeling very positive about the future of United since his appointment was announced.

Dutch are candid and honest. I liked those answers, I hope everyone support his decision. He stay true to himself and don't change. If he is not happy then leave Utd, I believe he can find another job easily. Players needs to know who is the boss. To me, Ole is just a nice bloke and RR is too direct. Hopefully, ETH is just right. Look forward to the new regime.

Can you cope with stars?
"I use a quote with the players, 'Per aspera ad astra', which is Latin for 'through adversity to the stars'".

I love this part.

You'd have preferred Rodgers? :D

Some are going to go full Bogarde on him and the club. Will take some time to move on people who're very comfortable.

Bogarde?

For sure. Think they’ve fecked themselves over this season in terms of support from fans though.

Think the majority of us are willing to back Ten Hag over the players. Hope that we can move on a few of them that have contracts alongside the pogbas and lingards.

I laughed when I heard a journalist say that the word from the dressing room was that some were "underwhelmed" by his appointment. Like they have the right to judge anyone given their overwhelming failure. These players have to be the ones most hated by their own fans in the PL and I'd love ETH if he got rid of most of them regardless of who comes in to replace them. It's like on Fantasy Football when you get to play a Wildcard and swap the entire team.

All incoming managers say the right things.
But the proof will be this time next year, when we'll have seen the changes (if any) that ETH has brought in.
I am still VERY sceptical that we will see any major reset. My gut tells me that in 2 years, we'll still see the same players stinking up the place with a poor work ethic, refusing to press or play with a high level of physicality (something Ralf R, has been at pains to stress after almost every match).

When Pep arrived, the first thing he did was give everybody target bodyweight to achieve quickly. Those who could not attain the desired bodyweight was basically fired. This was done in the first week or so that he arrived and at this point it was clear that major changes were incoming. I'd like to see ETH do something similar. He'll have to be more drastic though, as we are currently a team in relegation form (when Ronaldo doesn't play).

Good interview there. If footballers are focussed on the task of winning football matches then I don’t see why there should be much need for caring about players’ feelings’. A bit of man managemeant is important, but I always get the sense with Guardiola that City are pretty much all about the football and winning.

Thanks for posting this.

It is a good interview. Sounds like an intellectual, and very much in charge.

I worry for his brain when he meets some of our players :D

Seriously though, I like his approach. We need to back him, or the players will try shit again.

having a say in transfers is fair enough, every manager in the world has a say in transfers so the fact that he made a point of it might mean he has more than a say and moving more towards control. hopefully that is not the case. if it is we have learned absolutely nothing

Chelsea player famous for sitting on his arse earning a very good living until seeing out his contract. Believe he’s been working under Ten Hag at Ajax.

Ah right. I googled it and just saw he was a Dutch defender. Thanks.

I guess Bale is just copying him.

Taking full accountability already in case we sign players that are shite or turn out to flop later on .

Regardless, it makes sense for manager to take control of transfer. Never understood the sporting director being responsible unless you are at a club that are quick to pull the trigger like Chelsea, Psg, real madrid and so on.

I remember an Ajax fan telling us that regardless of how good he's making the team play on the pitch, he's a numpty whenever he speaks.

This interview was in "cringe" territory for me.

Let's work with the squad first before making any claims Erik, we know you're good.
