Eric Ramsey - Set Piece Coach | Agreed deal with Minnesota United

He won’t be missed. Absolutely useless. We must be one of the worst at set pieces in the league.
Agreed. But you know how the story goes… he leaves us and his new team suddenly score 20+ set piece goals a season. Carrick and McKenna got a lot of stick here but are proving they wasn’t the problem.

I used to work in Minneapolis (Minnesota) in the 90’s - was a great place, although very cold in the winter, beautiful in the summer and really nice people.

Nowadays, it’s a far cry from that place. It’s more like Somalia now.

Good luck Eric.

a victim of poor governmental policies. it went downhill fast in the 90s when they welcomed relocating sex offenders from other states.

Yeah the Villa and Arsenal guys are quite clever. Brentford used to be too but now they seem to have dropped off.
Ye Arsenal have been really good this season at set pieces.

In what way is it like Somalia?

A good athletic piece about Arsenal, Villa and Brentford and their set piece strategies. https://theathletic.com/4358447/2023/03/30/set-piece-specialists-transforming-football/

It'd be cool if we can get the Villa guy to replace Ramsay.

Its a strange one, Villa have conceded more than we have from set pieces this season so far, and only scored two more than we have.

We massively need to improve this part of our game though, Consider us versus teams above us.

PL GOALS FROM SET PIECES 23/24 SO FAR

For:

Arsenal 17!!
Man City 10
Aston Villa 9
Spurs 9
Liverpool 7
United 7

Against:

Man City 2
Arsenal 5
Liverpool 6
Spurs 7
United 9
Villa 10

Set Piece Goal Difference:

Arsenal +12
Man City +8
Spurs +2
Liverpool +1
Villa -1
United -2

A 14 goal swing between us and arsenal just from set pieces is unforgivable. 10 from city. Obviously more attacking teams equals more free kicks and corners equals more crossing chances, I havent looked up set piece totals so that context is needed but still - it's a really poor part of our game.

He was assistant coach though, not just “set piece guy.” You’d think fans would’ve learnt their lesson after Carrick and McKenna, but here we are.

He wasn't a specialised set piece coach. He's a technical coach that we wanted because of his potential, a square peg to fill a round hole vacancy.

good luck to the lad. A coach has to do a stand out job in MLS though to eventually get a big move afterwards, the closest successful (in terms of getting an EPL job) equivalent in these parts would be Postegcoglu who eventually got the Spurs job via celtic and yokohama after a lot of work in Oz.

Odd career move for a supposedly highly rated coach. He seems quite young in terms of a coach who has been operating at the top level, so he can afford it if he has big aspirations.

Another one of those supposedly highly rated coaches who seemed to be having very little impact on our on the pitch performance. Stealing a living, I hope this is because INEOS told him there was no future for him here.
