He's actually played really well this season and probably deserved more games than he's had. The issue is, when Ole dropped Lindelof to start him, they lost 6-1 at home to Spurs.
But after years of being completely out of the picture and not being anywhere near the starting 11, Ole let Smalling go and kept Bailly, showed faith in him to play when past history indicated he didn't deserve it and he's improved as the season has gone on and become a genuine option as a first choice centre back.
And now he throws his toys. What an idiot.

In other news, as he was throwing his toys out of his pram he pulled his hamstring - accumulation of games (c100 in 5 years) - out for 3 weeks (will end up being three months) taking him nicely up to the end of the season again -and as a bonus will give him the chance to sit out pre season training at his next club....
I don't think this'll go too far given that Ole gave Bailly yet another chance only to see him get injured yet again.

No real issues with this. If only other players rejected our contract offers in the bid to seek for first team football. Bailly is good on his day, probably a higher ceiling than Lindelof but he's not as consistent with his performances and frankly given his injury record he cannot be relied on. I do wonder who would buy him, can't imagine we will get a good fee.
Ole prefers his favourites (Lindelöf & Maguire) even when he's fit and they play like shit so him being injury prone doesn't mean much. We have a manager who made his mind up and doesn't select his teams based on performances. That's probably why he's frustrated and rightly so. Such a shame because he's clearly our best defender at the club.

- He signed Bruno Fernandes when many were clamoring for us to sign Maddison.
- Signed Telles to compete with Luke Shaw as the latter's progress was being questioned, we were also linked with Chilwell at the time.
- Invested in Diallo and Pellistri rather than being messed about with Dortmund for Sancho
- Signed Van de Beek last summer which may be to the detriment of Grealish
- Signed Cavani which many were frustrated with at the time because they believed Rashford and Greenwood was enough backups for Martial.

I'd say, given our luck with outgoing centre backs, he'd probably be injury free for the most part and become a well-regarded CB, just like Smalling and Evans before him.

+1 If Bailly managed to stay uninjured and in-form for any reasonable stretch of time, he would be playing way more. Bailly being out more than in, is one thing that is definitely not Ole's fault.

We have without a doubt EPL's best left back of the season in Luke Shaw. Maguire is a fine CB. And actually Lindelof is a very good CB, he is just not a great pair with Maguire because they are too similar. And AWB is a fine backup. That is not a backline that needs complete overhaul. Our problem is lack of depth and competition. We do have good players, we don't have enough. Not the same as not having them and needing a rebuild. If we buy a Bailly-style defender (but not made of glass) to pair with Maguire, and have Lindelof compete with Maguire for his spot + buy a good right back to start ahead of AWB and compete with AWB - we will have one fine backline.

This is the first time Bailly has angered me. He’s been out injured for almost four years, going toe to toe with Phil Jones for physioroom GOAT and now this? Fukk off if this is how he’s going to show gratitude to the club.

He's been banged in the head too often. One of the key attributes of a professional player is availability. 100+ game in 5 years? He has clearly failed in that aspect.

That's like saying I'll never step out of the house because I'm afraid a plane will drop on me and frankly with his injury record and lack of reliability in big games he has no right to set demands and ultimatums. Say what you want about Maguire/Lindelof but they are FAR more reliable fitness wise and FAR more reliable in big games.
Better to let him go and see what our new "transfer committee" will do we had a bad window last year but there is a bigger chance of us replacing Bailly well than him being a reliable CB

I actually like this attitude from Bailly. We don't wanna see another Phil Jones contract, just let Bailly go so we can buy a new one who is not injury prone and fit everytime to challenge Lindelof-Maguire so eventually be regular XI.

This idea that Ole wants a British core doesn't coincide with the reality we have.
Remember, for the recruitment team, it is of course a given that they would start by looking at local talents, but they would also expand their scouting network (regional/continental/global), and it is obvious that a local talent is easier to acquire than someone from outside, but that won't stop the recruitment team from looking for talents outside of the local network, our youth teams is filled with talents from the UK as well as from outside of the UK.
if he leaves he leaves, although i like him and I think he is a quality defender (not saying he is better or worse than any of our CBs), he is way too injured and we can't depend on his availability for games.

Very good player when fit just his body letting him down and maybe some of his own game style puts him in odd situations worsening the problem. I doubt any Giggs yoga work can help him. It's been a waste of 5 years of wages for United. We've been too accommodating with injury prone players.

Not a big deal. It's completely reasonable that a player of his calibre wants to play more, if he's going to develop his career. It's also completely reasonable that he isn't. Bottom line: You can't keep everybody happy.
I want rid as soon as possible, nothing personal as I quite him as a player and he seems like a decent guy but these occasional purple patches aren’t hiding the fact that for various reasons he cannot be relied upon. Plus we have too many centre backs on the books, shifting him increases the likelihood of bringing a new one in. We could replace 3 cbs with 1 and save a small fortune in wages.
