It was weird when people kept repeating it before this season when we had Maguire and Lindelof without being spectacular were both fairly solid and reliable injury wise. But now we have Varane as well you're right it is fecking bizarre.
Seemed like he lost most aerial duels? Especially on goal kicks.
He's never been great in the air so I wouldn't be too harsh on him in that regard.
I'm just happy he didn't do his patented head a cross straight up into the air and then watch it drop into his own box and the chaos that ensues.

I've always disliked that. I've watched some absolutely horrible pens that went in. They only went in because the keeper dived the wrong way. Commentators say it was a good pen. It's only a great pen if it makes it into the bottom or top corner. Anything slightly central or at a good height for the keeper isn't a good pen. Even if it goes in.
Bailly's penalty was awful. Nowhere near the corner and a great height for the keeper. Anything like that is asking to be saved. It's a shame that people will remember this over his overall performance during the game.

Exactly. They should have realized that by now. Bailly could be brilliant and horrible all in the same move. Since he had a brilliant game, they should never have pushed their luck by asking him to take the penalty.

He went for neither power nor placement. For all the bravado in his tackles, he is actually very timid when put in tight situations.
Really? Looked like he had one eye on the 'sick baller' tweets by trying to take a no run up & no look penalty. If anything it was a case of arrogance being his downfall. It was a weird penalty shootout though, there just wasn't much tension in the crowd. Some looked apathetic to it all.
Look it wasn't the worlds greatest penalty, but it was hardly a Penenka gone wrong or smashing it 50 yards over the bar Ramos styles.
He hit the target, yes it was a good height for the keeper but penalties are always a gamble. If he dives the other way nobody even mentions it which is very annoying.

people just want to shit on our players at any opportunity.Bailly had a good game defensively, especially after Kessie got injured and had to be substituted which lead to Ivory Coast giving up the initiative to Egypt, Bailly and his partner Simon Deli, dealt with Egypt's attacks, and the GK made some nice saves as well.
Ahh well - he kept Salah there for a longer period of time. 
He had a really classy body feint followed by a through ball at the edge of Egypt's box. He had a great game and people are giving our CB crap because he missed pen

Poor penalty but he’s only taking pens in shootouts anyway so it’s not very important. It’s much more important that he played really well.
Somewhat agree, but part of penalties is making the goalkeeper go the wrong way by either fooling him, having studied him or waiting until he moves. Some of those “poor lucky” penalties are not luck, they are performed with skills.
Not sure why this guy isn’t allowed to play.
4th in the pecking order is why. Lindelof is trusted more than him.
