Ole obviously had the same feeling, and took him off. Why would he take exactly him off but not anybody else with a yellow, if he was no more risk than anybody else?

His game was aggressive and he was commuting fouls, which made him a risk after the yellow card.

It was only Bailly and Maguire on yellows. It was the period of the game where typically you make substitutions to freshen it up and given Maguire is captain and plays every minute of every game it was an obvious sub to make given there isn't much between Bailly and Lindelof and he was on a yellow as you point out. It's not that he couldn't be trusted, just why would you take the risk

Defenders are at a higher risk of getting cards, because well, they are the defenders. That doesn't mean he was close to a second yellow. At no point in this game was he close to a second yellow. Bailly isn't the first CB/defender to be subbed off when on a yellow in the history of football. It happens quite regularly.

Like someone else already said, I'm not even sure he committed any fouls after being carded. Please drop the minute mark for the instance(s) in which he was close to a second yellow.
I don’t think you understand. It was his way of playing that made him a risk. He played rough and committed fouls. Maguire was not a big risk despite his yellow.

Somebody told him to work on his heading... so he was over jumping on every fecking duel. Absolute mad bastard he is and uses every opportunity to clutter the opposition. Can’t wait for his next injury, until then I hope we see some more from him alongside Maguire.

This line got me confused

You can't wait for his next injury which implies you want him off the team

And then in the same line you wanna see him continue alongside Maguire.

That's some mixed message there bro unless I'm missing something.

I don't know what the ref was playing at with Bailly last night.

Those headers he was winning were beautiful, and he blew for everyone. Then you have his yellow card that, to me, wasn't even a foul. He did brilliantly to get himself back in front of the opposition player.

Also made a crucial interception in our box, and did brilliantly to hold up the player that was through on goal after Fernandes gave the ball away in our half.

Madness seeing my tweet (Paddy) posted on the Caf. I have been a newbie here for 3 yrs or so and you made me smile. Bailly was very good today. His between the lines passing was very good.

I meant is as sarcasm. I like Bailly and rate him as a defender, I am just annoyed at all the injuries he is having.

He was like possessed by Ferdinand in first half. Tbh I am surprised he played that well. Hope he can stop the injuries and get consistent game time.

Got it, perhaps should have seen that myself :wenger:

Here's to hoping he kicks on from here and fitness issues become a thing of the past ala Smalling

Still scares the feck out of me. Has some very good attributes, hopefully he can get a run of games so we can see how much he's actually improved.

He is a catastrophe waiting to happen - erratic, over physical and injury prone. He is Phil Jones mk2. Lindelof for me all day over Bailey.

I honestly believe that if he’d had more luck with injuries and played consistent football for the last few years, we’d be looking at a brilliant cb here. Very good performance last night.

It feels like it was 20 years ago because of injuries and dip in form, but at the time he was signed he was one of the hottest up and coming center backs in Europe. If he can somehow gain some confidence and play up to his ability it'd almost be like a new signing.

How can you over jump? Defenders time their jump to meet the ball at the optimum moment, the problem was that the Copenhagen striker, Wind I think it was, hardly attempted to win the ball, he was falling over as soon as there was any contact, he was the same all over the pitch. Bailly is aggressive, as all defenders have to be, but he doesn't just clatter his opponent, he wins the ball, which is his job. He is also very good on the ball, has the skill to go past a player, and some of his forward passes were excellent, hit with pace to the feet of one of the front players. Personally I prefer Bailly to Lindelof, especially in the PL, but I admit that Lindelof has looked better in his last couple of matches. I wouldn't be looking for a new CB, with Maguire, Bailly, Lindelof, Tuanzebe and Mengi, with TFM as a cover for any back four position.

That post is a catastrophe in its entirety and the bolded says a lot about where your thinking is.

Very pleased with his performances of late. He's had his setbacks with injuries, some of which were self-imposed, but here he is now, doing the job we're asking of him.

Really like him. I hope he can stay fit and keep play him in semis. He has earned it.

There is a world-class defender somewhere in him, I think... Would love for him to stay fit and gain some continuity and form.

What was said is clear to anyone who can read.

I hope you are not implying racism there

He even said Bailly is like Phil Jones who is physically over aggressive and injury prone.

Edit: reworded the post.

I hope you are not playing the race card for that post.

"race card" is such a dickhead notion.

The idea that minorities go around carrying this metaphorical deck of cards they can't wait to pull out like it's a yu-gi-oh match is just so embarrassing.

Yeah I agree, didn't know what to use. Anyone offended apologies.

My points stands though, it's laughable to some how link that post to racism (if that's what that poster implied, that's why I asked for clarification)

Fair enough.

I don't agree with the sentiment of the quoted post, but I didn't see anything in it besides me feeling like it's the regurgitated criticism thrown at Bailly and not necessarily applicable to his performance against Copenhagen. I don't know what the other poster was/is on about, so I make no assumptions.

That post was like generic post you find in Jones thread too even when he plays well on rare occasions.

Yeah I don't agree with that post either. Thought he was good and ref was bit soft blowing whistle for everything.

I agree,
I thought he was really good and his opponent does not even jump for the header and Eric is penalized.
If he stops the silly mistakes he could be really good for us.

Yes, that was bloody annoying. Twice he outjumps Jonas Wind by a full meter, twice Wind seeks contact and lets himself fall. If you don’t go up and still seek contact, it’s a freekick the other way around, normally.

And the yellow was maybe a foul, maybe not, never a yellow.

Spot on. Jones was once hailed by none other than Sir Alez himself as future superstar. We all thought we have got a John Terry when we signed him. But as they say, there is a thin line between genius and madness, and both Jones and Bailly cross that line more often than not, couple that with their injury record and they are disasters waiting to happen. But between the two, we have enough of Jones, he should be transferred, even for free. Bailly is a good 2nd choice defender to have who when fit and in rhythm, can surprise both oppositions and teammates alike. We definitely need another CB.
Ideally I would like us to sign Pau Torres and have Maguire, Torres, Lindelof and Bailly as 4 CBs.

I thought he done well.

Ref blew everytime he won a header - none of which really looked like he done anything wrong.

That being said - he didnt adapt he just kept doing the same thing. Got to the point where you knew everytime he won a header there's a good chance the ref will blow. Poor from the ref but players got to be smart enough to adapt.

I would have kept him on - Lindelof makes no difference. Maguire was the worst CB we had on the pitch

There was nothing offensive in what you said.

How can a player adapt? So you expect him to lose the headers? He wasn’t fouling the striker, the ref was wrong with those decisions.
Hope he can stay fit and continue to get game time, he’s actually exciting to watch.

By not challenging the forward in the same manner everytime? Ref was consistently giving fouls so he could have adapted and not been as physical.

I agree - i hope he stays fit.

I dont think i want the criteria of a Man Utd CB to be "exciting". I'd rather terms like "Consistent", "Solid" and "Reliable"
