I missed this crazy fecker. Hopefully he can stay fit.
The most important quality for a CB is to be reliable. Until Bailly learns how to do that, the rest of clown shit is worth nothingI can’t help but love Eric Bailly. I mean, I know he’ll probably end up screwing up numerous times over the next few games, leading to several of the most preventable goals conceivable, but he’s just such a great showman.
Never has a defender managed to rotate between looking like Beckenbauer then Bramble in the space of mere seconds. Looking to hire someone to carry out a Cruyff turn in your own box? Most mere mortals might whip that one out while winning 6-0 against a team like Tranmere; not Eric Bailly. He does it at Stamford Bridge, when the score is 0-0 and over an hour remains on the clock. Why? Because he can. And for his own amusement.
He’s up there with Ando as the GOAT of still being lovable despite frequently suffering from not being very good.
He didn't win 100% of his aerial duels, unless Statman Dave isn't counting the two that he mistimed and jumped underneath in textbook Bailly fashion. He is so shit in the air, it is hilarious.
Had a 2 or 3 brainfarts where he lost the ball in his own half and had us scrambling back towards our own goal in very avoidable circumstances.
Did a stepover in his own penalty area.
Classic Bailly.

Ah, got it Makes sense nowYes, I get that. My post was a tongue in cheek one and clearly didn’t advocate him to be a regular starter for the club.
People talk about goalkeepers making world class saves, that was definitely a world class tackle. The amount of ground he covers is incredible.
Baffling player. Worst and best defender on the pitch.
He's also the calmest and most manic man on the pitch
He has be great. Our most talented defender imo, just needs to keep himself fit and get some more composure and confidence. His game by numbers v Chelsea:
100% aerials won
85% pass accuracy
6 ball recoveries
3 blocks

And you dont mention the good things he did to get a clean shèet at Stamford Bridge. oh ya he didn't play for months too.
Lindelof makes multiple mistakes a game and is generally a passive defender that is scared most of the time
Have we ever played Bailly, Jones, and Rojo all together? Now that would be hilarious. (Yes, I realize Rojo is no longer at the club, but still)
Maguire seems to be a very good leader and organiser, maybe playing beside slabhead will be good for Bailly when it comes to reducing the batshit crazy aspects of his game
How can you not love a guy who has the audacity to do a stepover on his own 6 yard line, and the skill to pull it off.
He's always been the most talented of all our defenders. With a prolonged run in the side he might start to cut the crazy out, but he's never had the chance because of injuries. You could say it's also because hes had some shocking games but so did Fred in his early days, and look at him now. If he could ever string together 6 months of starts there could be a top player there.
The bolded is the problem though. He has all the raw tools and ability, but talent means nothing if you are constantly injured, and never get to grow and improve on the training ground and work with the coaches. This same issue can be said about so many of our defenders that it is sad. Jones, Rojo, Shaw, Axel, TFM have been cursed with injuries. Jones and Rojo are hopeless, Baily and Shaw can still salvage their careers if they can get over their injury problems, and Axel and TFM are still very young and have time on their sides.
I wonder if we need to update our medical department, considering how many injuries we seem to suffer, or are some of these players just injury prone and not much can be done ?
Wow. Talk about an over exaggeration95% of the game Trash. 5% of the game, greatest defender that has ever lived.
He‘s just ridiculous. Can go from terrible to incredible at the drop of a hat. I feel like he just needs to calm down and realise he doesn’t have to chase every all and get dragged out of position all the time.
Had that one clearing tackle with the 50-50 with DeGea and then that block on Kovacic but that but around the 37th minute where he is in our box being the coolest man in the stadium as all and sundry closing in on him.
Agreed. If that was Lindelof trying to tackle Kovacic he would have just stood there 6 yards away with his hands behind his back and dangled a leg hoping it would block, then when Chelsea score he will just throw his hands up in the air and look upset.Lindelof doesn't defend mate - he doesn't make a mistake because he isn't nowhere to be seen.
Out of position when maguire tries to intercept & scared to get his pants dirty because he hasn't been taught how to make a slide tackle. Zonal defending is apparently a problem because we have a single centre back who tries to jump for a defender whilst Lindelof stands there ball watching and turns his back because he is scared of the ball hitting his face.
Bailly isn't long term but was always going to be a better partner to Maguire the same reason why Rojo was a better partner to Maguire because they get stuck in whilst Lindelof is too shy.
That's why Smalling shouldn't have been sold & why Southgate is a poor manager for England.
First game back and I know we’ve been here before but hopefully he can get a run, stay fit and someone can get through to him and make him a good defender.
